This is great. I have no comments now, other than thanking you for linking to Nina, but I am more likely to leave a comment than send an email. Plus you have some provacative posts and it will be interesting to see the comments from others.
re: men vs women commenters - I read Ann all the time; not all readers are commenters. For instance, I noticed the comments being enabled a while ago, but I didn't have anything to add (sort of like right now).
yes, but I don't like comments in blogs, like I don't like long amounts of text in footnotes in books! RLC seems to like fawning sycophants; enjoy the suckage, sir! More smiling photos of the Althouse,please...
Yes, but I'm so used to reading without commenting here that it'll take time to get used to it :-) And no, an occasional email to you is not the same---commenting is interactive and requires repeated readings of the same post...
Good for you! You are a frequent read for me, and this makes your site even more exciting. How do you plan on dealing with abusive or way-off-point comments this time around?
Steve: I think there will be fewer abusive comments this time, because I'm only letting registered users post. But other than that, I'm going to ignore some things and delete others. I think last spring when I tried comments before, people where way overheated about the election (and the war).

Woohoo!
Greetings from Auckland, New Zealand. Love your blog and enjoy your writing. :-) Keep it up.
I always judge the success of my posts by the number of comments, so here's another one.
I like the comment function provided by haloscan (and the price is right too). It provides a bit more functionality and also supports trackbacks.
Also if you respond to the comments, that adds to your comment total! Plus it keeps the conversation going. It does take time, of course.
Why are your commenters mostly men and mine mostly women?
Hello Auckland!
Tommy: well, thanks for coming by anyway. You might think of something later.
Mark: I don't like the dinky Haloscan box, and I like the way Blogger makes the comments page and the link page the same place.
Genius: I'd been getting a lot of really good email, which I thought deserved to be seen in comment form.
Richard: See, I'm taking your advice. Why do women respond to you and men to me? Can't think of a single reason.

Yes, I've noticed but I don't like comments in blogs, judges opinion or no! I think that they're a pain in the butt...like this one!

Fish: If you don't like comments, don't click on comments. Or do you find you can't resist clicking and then you're annoyed to have wasted the time?
Ron-a-licious: I'm sure RLC enjoyed that nonfawning wisecrack too.

I know I can count on Ann for the non-syncophantic comments, and I always welcome them.
