Edward Klein quotes a "campaign aide" calling Hillary "child-like," "shrill," and "even violent."

I don't know who this unnamed individual is...

"Hillary’s been having screaming, child-like tantrums that have left staff members in tears and unable to work,” says a campaign aide. “She thought the nomination was hers for the asking, but her mounting problems have been getting to her and she’s become shrill and, at times, even violent.”

... but if I were Hillary, I'd give him a "shrill" kick out the door. What contemptible disloyalty! And "shrill" is a word too characteristic of sexism to be used by competent politicos.

But, assuming this aide exists, isn't Klein paraphrasing? No one will step up and say, you didn't quote me precisely.

Strip away the exaggerated language and there's nothing abnormal here. There's nothing wrong with Hillary getting angry and yelling. There's no detail to what she said that "left staff members in tears and unable to work." You'd think staff members would be plenty tough and able to serve as sounding boards as the candidate ventilates. As for "even violent," what does that mean? Are we talking about physical assaults? If not, don't use that word.

And, yes, I know there's a long history of stories about Hillary throwing things at Bill:

It seems to have first appeared in print in late February of 1993, when the Chicago Sun-Times reported that the new first lady broke a lamp “during a heated late-night argument” at the White House with her husband. I'm sure Klein would love to get resonance off that old junk, which at least named the object thrown. Klein's "she’s become... violent" — without more — is utter trash.

Bill Clinton supposedly said: "The Obamas are out to get us any way they can."

Quoted in a NY Post article titled "Obama adviser behind leak of Hillary Clinton’s email scandal." The author, Edward Klein, cites sources inside "Bill Clinton’s camp" as having informed him that it was Valerie Jarrett, acting through others, who leaked details that made Hillary Clinton's email into a big issue. Klein also reports that "at Jarrett’s behest, the State Department" has begun "[s]ix separate probes," including Hillary's "use of her expense account, the disbursement of funds, her contact with foreign leaders and her possible collusion with the Clinton Foundation." Klein says: "the e-mail scandal was timed to come out just as Hillary was on the verge of formally announcing that she was running for president — and that there’s more to come." We're told Bill Clinton is "furious."

Klein offers this quote as supposedly coming from Bill: "My contacts and friends in newspapers and TV tell me that they’ve been contacted by the White House and offered all kinds of negative stories about us... The Obamas are behind the e-mail story, and they’re spreading rumors that I’ve been with women, that Hillary promoted people at the State Department who’d done favors for our foundation, that John Kerry had to clean up diplomatic messes Hillary left behind."

It's so underhanded to make up the very stories people would be inclined to believe.

According to Klein, Obama/Jarrett's real objection to Hillary is that she's not liberal enough to preserve Obama's legacy:

“With Obama’s approval,” this source continued, “Valerie has been holding secret meetings with Martin O’Malley [the former Democratic governor of Maryland] and [Massachusetts Sen.] Elizabeth Warren. She’s promised O’Malley and Warren the full support of the White House if they will challenge Hillary for the presidential nomination.”

Jeremiah Wright says he was offered $150,000 in 2008 from "one of Barack’s closest friends" to stop preaching until election.

“Did Obama himself ever make an effort to see you?”

“Yes... And one of the first things Barack said was, ‘I really wish you wouldn’t do any more public speaking until after the November election.’ He knew I had some speaking engagements lined up, and he said, ‘I wish you wouldn’t speak. It’s gonna hurt the campaign if you do that.’

“And what did you say?” I asked. “I said, ‘I don’t see it that way. And anyway, how am I supposed to support my family?’ And he said, ‘Well, I wish you wouldn’t speak in public. The press is gonna eat you alive.’

“Barack said, ‘I’m sorry you don’t see it the way I do. Do you know what your problem is?’ And I said, ‘No, what’s my problem?’ And he said, ‘You have to tell the truth.’ I said, ‘That’s a good problem to have. That’s a good problem for all preachers to have. That’s why I could never be a politician.’

"As the person who controlled access to the first couple, Valerie Jarrett saw Oprah as a potential threat to her power."

Writes Edward Klein, author of a new book about Obama:

An easy lesson about criticizing Hillary.

Naomi Wolf, riffing on Edward Klein's "The Truth About Hillary," makes an extended comparison of Hillary Clinton to the 19th century feminist Mary Wollstonecraft. Basically, there's a standard underhanded way to attack women, which was around in the 19th century and is still around today. There's an easy lesson here, and most respected writers have already learned it: if you want to attack a woman, don't taint your legitimate criticism with crap about how she's not feminine enough.

Is everyone aghast -- either at Bill or Hillary or Matt or Ed? Sorry, I'm not. I'm going to assume for the sake of argument that Bill Clinton really did say that. I hate to tell you, but there was a time when Boomer generation folks would use the word "rape" lightly. (Did you know the original meaning of "ravish" is rape too?)

I'll bet Bill once said "I'm going to kill him" about somebody. Haven't you? And I'll bet he's said "F**k you" and not meant it literally!
