I know from listening to pop songs over the years that the best place to cry is in the rain.
You cry in the rain so no one can tell you're crying. Similar but importantly different is "Raindrops" by Dee Clark. There, the man is crying, but he's in denial: "Oh no, it can't be teardrops/For a man ain't supposed to cry." It's not raining at all.
And here's Flight of the Conchords playing with the same idea:
There's also the situation where it really is raining and you nevertheless are perfectly aware that a person is crying. Most notably: "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain."

I'm so longsome I could cry
But its my party and I'll cry if I want to
So don't tell me Big Girls don't cry.
Blue Eyes crying in the rain by Eva Cassidy is probably my favorite crying song.

With respect to blue eyes crying in the rain, it’s one of the rare times when Willie did it better than Hank.

Smokey Robinson and the Miracles are crying down in the basement.
Raindrops keep falling on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turning red
Crying's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complaining
Because I'm free
Nothing's worrying me
One of the older members of the lawyer's Friday lunch group was excited to be taking his wife of 50 years to New York for a fancy stay at a nice hotel (the Pierre, I think) for a second honeymoon. I believe they had stayed there when she met him on his return from Korea. When he got back one of us asked if it was as wonderful as the first time. "Yes, except this time I was the one who sat in the bathroom and cried."
"Big salty tears
Are what I tasted
As I drove
Past your house tonight
And now they're resting
On my burger
As I start to fry
Big salty tears
Here in line
Even those Young Fresh Fellows
They don't sound too good tonight
And all those brake lights
That are in front of me
They make a watery red design
I'm at the age when I realize
The liquor store won't bring you back
I must be getting old
I'm at the drive thru
And I'm making my face
More fat, fat, fat, fat, fat
Big salty tears
Oo, oo
Oo, oo, oo
I'm at the age when I realize
Nothing (Nothing... nothing...) actually
Just do as I'm supposed to do
"It's two-seventeen
First window, please"
Please, please... a-big salty tears"

Crying in public? Are these crazy people?
I happy-cried a little yesterday in the gym. Had a Sabaton concert on Youtube. Red Baron, Attack of the Dead Men, and Carolus Rex always get me.
For Attack of the Dead Men, the boys all wore gas masks. The instrumentalists took them off after a minute, but lead singer Joachim kept his on - I assume it was miked inside. And probably had the filter removed - he didn't sound short of breath. CC, JSM
thx john mosby for Sabaton
Back when a certain song was popular, my daughter refused an offer of donuts one morning from her grandfather because she liked her brown eyes. She was almost brought to tears refusing the breakfast treat before finally protesting, "Because donuts make my brown eyes blue!"
I prefer a different ethos: Big girls, they don't cry, and to provide a specimen of the latter, let me submit Confederate Railroad: She Never Cried: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41A84d2YJBw
And for those offended by country music (scoundrels, rogues, and traitors all, not to be trusted with any important duties or at all really), here are the lyrics:
She never cried when old Yeller died
She wasn't washed in the blood of the lamb
She never stood up for the star spangled banner
And she wasn't a John Wayne fan
Her baby blue eyes had the warning signs
That woman was bad to the bone
She never cried when old Yeller died
So do you think I'll cry when she's gone
So desperate, I answered an ad in the personals
Hoping to find me a date
A good lookin' non smokin' full figured Leo
Was looking to find her a mate
We hit it off, we got it on
My love was growing so strong
Then I started seeing a side of that woman
I should have seen all along
She never cried when old Yeller died
She wasn't washed in the blood of the lamb
She never stood up for the star spangled banner
And she wasn't a John Wayne fan
Her baby blue eyes had the warning signs
That woman was bad to the bone
She never cried when old Yeller died
So do you think I'll cry when she's gone
I can't believe I just didn't see
The writing there on the wall
Listening to those Barry Mannilow records
Was just one of her character flaws
Sometimes she was rude, unnaturally crude
But this good old boy let it pass
But when she cussed in front of my mom
I told she could kiss my
She never cried when old Yeller died
She wasn't washed in the blood of the lamb
She never stood up for the star spangled banner
And she wasn't a John Wayne fan
Her baby blue eyes had the warning signs
That woman was bad to the bone
She never cried when old Yeller died
So do you think I'll cry when she's gone
She never cried when old Yeller died
And I ain't gonna cry when she's gone
Neil Sedaka heard laughter in the rain.
I'm reading this at the base of the Empire State Building, blubbering like a fool.
Probably in a park. The city of concrete, asphalt, glass and steel may make you want to cry, but your human self will feel more comfortable crying in a "natural" environment -- maybe one that overlooks the river or the sea.
Yes Ewa, you might like Attack of the Dead Men as it tells a story of Polish valor. In the service of the Tsar, true, but hey, any excuse to kill Krauts….The two main officers in the incident became authors and dissidents under Polish Communism, IIRC. CC, JSM
Elton John showed up as a crooner with Blue Eyes.
Where did I cry, Grants Tomb. Wondering who was buried there.
