"So we had the privelege [sic] to watch one of the most amazing team performances in a World Series in history. And we wake up to see a summary of the game..."

"... and this is what we get? No offense to the author, but my goodness WaPo, what an embarrassment."

That's the top-rated comment on the main World Series article featured on the front page of The Washington Post. It's titled: "How a World Series team turns batting practice music into psychological warfare/The Milwaukee Brewers are famous for playing sleeping tunes during their opponents’ pregame sessions. So the Tampa Bay Rays came prepared."

And here's the last paragraph: "The World Series thus far has been tight, with the first two games, both Milwaukee wins, decided by a run apiece. The margins can come from anywhere, and the Rays’ chance to retaliate awaits. Game 3 begins at 8 p.m. in Tampa. But first, batting practice."

Here's the entire sports coverage on the front page, right now:
Game 3 has been over for more than 12 hours. It was quite something, 10 to 1, and nobody should be saying "The World Series thus far has been tight" at this point. But I get it. The Washington Post's sports coverage is for people who basically don't care about sports. So you get sports with music, sports with Paris, and sports with "short kings."

As it always has been.
Also this: The Washington Post's coverage of politics is for people who don't care about truth. Or maybe only those parts that fit the narrative.

BarrySanders20 કહ્યું...

The games have been very close other than with 2 outs in the fifth inning yesterday and the 8 run turnstile. Hopefully that demoralized the Rays and they'll roll over tonight, but don't count on it. Baseball is a funny game. Go Brewers

To quote Barkley... the pregame is turr-able.

Brewers brought baseball back. While most teams are all HR or nothing, Brewers are doing what National League baseball was all about traditionally. They force a team into solid fundamentals. Opposing teams have struggled. Heck, some Brewers (Pratt) have struggled with the opposition doing the same. But on balance...putting dozens of balls into play works over time.

Fox Sports barely knows how to pronounce the names of the players on the Brewers...a team with the best record in baseball and with a commanding and deserved 3-0 lead in the WS. That's not a Brewers problem.

@Althouse, I subscribed to the dead tree Post back for many, many years. I stopped my subscription when I stopped being able to trust even the sports pages. When the only things you can believe are the box scores, well, they’re online for free.

I am so old that I remember when the quality broadsheets’ sports pages were as good as the tabloids, except maybe a little more literary.

Jaq કહ્યું...

I can’t explain how I know that it’s AI, except for the clumsy artless use of “retaliation” but have read hundreds of novels, literary novels, upmarket fiction, even some genre fiction, and AI has a kind of goofy pretentiousness.

Bushman of the Kohlrabi કહ્યું...

Turned on the MLB network yesterday and it was all about how the Rays were superior and on the verge of turning things around. Not one good word about the Brewers was mentioned. In other words, the coverage was the same when the Brewers faced the Padres and Dodgers.

Jaq કહ્યું...

You would think that the sports pages would hire someone who could write a proper prompt.

Watched last night’s game with my brother. He turns the sound down on the TV and listens to the radio coverage out of Milwaukee, because— he says—the TV sports jocks are blatantly biased against Milwaukee. Is that anyone worse’s perception?

The Gell-Mann Amnesia Effect remains undefeated. If you think the Washington Post’s sports coverage is shallow and shoddy wait till you read their takes on political issues.

Shouting Thomas કહ્યું...

I’m a little surprised by the Brewers’ dominance, although they did beat my Cubs, a very good team, quite soundly, going 9-4 against them in their season series. I like the Brewers’ style of playing. They aren’t waiting passively for the next HR. They are putting the ball in play. Highest league BA at .258. Craig Counsell’s failure to catch the Brewers looks different in this light.

The 1960 Pirates lost games by 16-3, 10-0, and 12-0 en route to beating the Yankees in seven games. The Pirates were outscored in the Series, 55-27.

Ambrose કહ્યું...

If you watched the game, why would you want to read the Washington Post's summary of it?

Left Bank of the Charles કહ્યું...

You were reading a pregame story, posted yesterday afternoon, not a game summary.

Fritz Schranck કહ્યું...

WaPo used to have a pretty good sports section, with folks like Tom Boswell etc. Dominated by Redskins coverage year round, but nothing as limited as it is now after staff cuts. Hard to stay profitable and keep sections like Sports going when all that sweet classified ad revenue went away.

Deep State Reformer કહ્યું...

The Gell-Mann Effect is real and it applies to all the gay race communist media, especially the big east coast print ones. Their insipid SWPL views on sports are just as insipid as to everything else they write about too, but for some reason most people give their stories, reviews, and reporting a pass every single time. Go figure?

RCOCEAN II કહ્યું...

They're down 3-0, so expect lots of "How the Rays can turn it around" articles. If I was a betting man, I'd bet on the Rays for Game 4. Usually the losing team in the W/S wins at least one game.

RCOCEAN II કહ્યું...

LV odds now have the Brewers at -5000, which I assume means you bet $5000 to win $100. A 2% return on your investment.

RCOCEAN II કહ્યું...

George Wills "Love of baseball" always struck me as faker than Fake. The only sport George Will ever played was croquet. Bow-tie optional.

Original Mike કહ્યું...

Another way to look at it is a free $100, I guess.
Not that I would.

Yinzer કહ્યું...

The fact that you care what the Washington Post has to say about a World Series in which they have no rooting interest says a lot about you. Maybe you should get your fill at a Milwaukee newspaper.

boatbuilder કહ્યું...

If one of the Brewers liked to wear dresses, you can bet that would get front-page coverage in the WaPo.

Joe Bar કહ્યું...

So, did the Brewers win again?

gspencer કહ્યું...

"The [1960] Pirates were outscored in the Series, 55-27."

But they won four games in the Series. Baseball's own version of the Electoral College.

Lazarus કહ્યું...

For all practical purposes Bezo's laid off the Washington Post's entire sports department and outsourced the downsized effort a few months ago.

Jimmy કહ્યું...

WaPo attempts to rub shoulders with the prolitariat are always amusing.
What they could have said was during the game, in Florida, the Brewers home stadium had 30000 people in it, absolutely loving being fans.
I love people like that. Fans who follow the team no matter what. and from what I could see, Brewers fans are just folks. Didn't see any Hollywood cleavage shots etc . Well, except for that one woman in the front row. but she seems nice. she makes it to every game I hear.

Curious George કહ્યું...

"RCOCEAN II said...

Usual RCO analysis. 84% of teams down 3-0 in the World Series lose game 4.

What did you expect? The writer went to Columbia Journalism School.

bbface21 કહ્યું...

"WaPo used to have a pretty good sports section, with folks like Tom Boswell etc."

It's almost impossible to believe the WaPo had the likes of Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon as sports reporters.

Mason G કહ્યું...

If it was LA and NY and not Tampa Bay and Milwaukee, all the people here (well, most of them, anyway) waving their pom-poms over the wonderfulness of it all would instead be looking down their noses at the series so hard they'd get whiplash.

Just sayin'.

Rabel કહ્યું...

"The Washington Post eliminated its entire traditional sports department in February 2026 during a mass layoff that cut about one-third (over 300) of its staff, rather than outsourcing the unit."

"The paper did not outsource the sports department; instead, it closed traditional team coverage and later shifted toward selective or cultural sports reporting (such as bringing on a beat writer for the Washington Nationals ahead of the MLB season)."

If you're looking for sports coverage go elsewhere.

Jim at કહ્યું...

This? This is what gets your dander up about the bullshit that is the WaPo? Their sports coverage?

RCOCEAN II કહ્યું...

Currently LV has the odds of a brewers game 4 win at -122. Per the geniuses here, that almost sure money.

cassandralite કહ્યું...

WaPo used to have a great sports section. Povich, Kornheiser, Jenkins, Leavy, et al. The beginning of the end was when every major newspaper's sports section began to be infected with sportswriters' resentment of the ballplayers (in every pro league) who were now earning orders of magnitude more than the writers, so it became the most commie-tinged, envy-laden section of the paper. Naturally, the attitude spread into every section.

Earnest Prole કહ્યું...

All these dopey theories. All you need to know is that the Milwaukee Brewers have a 2.12 ERA during the 2026 postseason, the lowest by an MLB team in the last 30 seasons.

Their pitching has been great all year, but in the last two games they had 16 consecutive shutout innings. Crazy.

Sure money on the winner of a single game? Absurd. Did somebody say that or are you making it up?

Marcus Bressler કહ્યું...

I think I go against regular thinking but ROC might know the % better - I bet on Milwaukee to win last night and I put $20 on Kalshi for the Rays to keep from being swept tonight. It pays $41.67 if they prevail. I like betting on underdogs (at least on the line). The odds on payout are better.

Big Mike કહ્યું...

Pretty stupid editor to print a pregame summary 12 hours after the game is over.
