I was really excited to see Richard Linklater's "Nouvelle Vague." I liked all of the knowing, in-group references, but I found the movie slow-moving, boring, and lifeless, the opposite of the movie it pays homage to.
So- a question that comes up from time to time. Should drivers be allowed to hit protestors who blockade a public thoroughfare? IMHO- yes, absolutely. Blockading streets is a classic terrorist tactic- for more than a century. Are the "protestors" going to kill you if you stop? Answer- you have no way of knowing. Therefore- stopping puts your life in danger.
Next question- should you be able to run over people who attempt to show you their cultural superiority by stopping to pray in the middle of the street? Whether individually or en masse? Answer- also yes.
U.S. Announcement: U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on Truth Social that an immediate "energy ceasefire" had been agreed to by both countries to halt attacks on energy infrastructure, as reported by CNBC.
Ukrainian Position: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the announcement came as a surprise to him, though Kyiv expressed openness to the idea provided Russia actually complies.
Russian Position / Continued Attacks: Russia has not confirmed or agreed to the proposal, and Ukrainian officials reported that Russian drone and missile strikes hit multiple power plants and energy facilities hours after the announcement.”
“When asked by reporters about his declared "energy ceasefire", President Donald Trump responded to questions regarding why both Ukraine and Russia denied agreeing to it by stating, "They agreed, you know why? Because I said you agreed, that’s why they agreed... because I said they agreed."”
Trump wants the world to see him as a leader, lol. When he’s not being laughed at by the world, he’s being discounted by world leaders.
The stock market's tops have built up to the max. Some of the indexes and sectors have already broken down. A lot could be given back in a downward reaction to such an extraordinarily overvalued and overowned market -- quite possibly the last four years' worth of gains. It would still take more than that to make prices regress all the way to their historic mean. A retracement of the last four years would mean a 50% drop for the SPX. As Warren Buffett periodically said, stocks can go down 50%. Protect your assets.

@Kai Akker - It feels weird to have as much cash as I do, but I've been thinking everything is so highly overvalued right now, I just can't bring myself to buy. I'm a long-term type. I've got a bunch of stink bids in for the stocks I think are solid, in case the market blows up. But on the other hand, the few shares of SpaceX that I managed to snag are doing handsomely right now. That's the counter-vailing view. We're in new territory, and I've missed too much of the wild 'new market' ride. But I never believe that, any more than I trust crypto. A correction is going to happen.

The Department of Homeland Security said the municipalities across the Dem-driven state have refused to comply with its detainment requests 16,070 times since President Trump re-entered office fewer than two years ago — refusing to hand over criminal migrants suspected or convicted of everything from murder to kidnapping and sexual assault.” Is this really what we want to vote for in the midterms? Don’t we want our streets safe, regardless of our political leanings? Democrats plan to use subpoenas and the budget to slow down ICE. Vote Republican in the midterms.

An exposé of the latest strategy for flipping voter registrations in red states: County-By-County Soros Invasion Plans (Lawrence Person's Battleswarm Blog)
The introduction:
"If you’re wondering “Who gets to decide which foreigners are going to be imported into towns and neighborhoods to boost Democrat election chances,” one answer is “George Soros.”
“enable local governments and private entities to sponsor immigrants directly”
That is what the Niskanen Center, a Washington think tank whose immigration program receives Soros-foundation backing, wants policymakers to do. The instruction appears in its November 2025 immigration blueprint.
Two weeks later, Niskanen published a county-by-county migration index, identifying hundreds of American communities as potential destinations for newcomers. Its proposed applications include planning where refugees and asylum seekers could settle.
The agenda reaches straight into the question of who gets to shape your town: which places should receive newcomers, which private actors should help sponsor them, and how arrivals could be encouraged to stay."
Much more at the link - it's a long article but it's critical to understand how insidious the people are who want to co-opt our democracy.
MadTownGuy, the Niskanen Center's proposals are worth examining, particularly who should have a say in immigration policy and whether local communities might bear costs that employers and sponsors don't fully cover.
But, I don't see enough evidence that the project is intended to flip Republican states to Democratic control. Niskanen's county index uses economic and demographic criteria, including labor shortages, housing availability, and aging populations, to identify communities that might benefit from immigration. Identifying potential destinations isn't the same as implementing a relocation program, much less one designed to influence elections.
The Soros funding is worth examining, but financial support alone doesn't establish an electoral objective. The connection to voter registration also needs explaining. Noncitizens cannot register to vote in federal elections. Some immigrants may eventually become citizens and register, but that generally takes years and tells us nothing about how they would vote.
Immigration can certainly change a community's political makeup over time. But demonstrating a deliberate effort to change election outcomes requires more evidence than a map of potential settlement locations.
There are legitimate questions here about local costs, community consent, and who influences immigration policy. Those issues deserve scrutiny on their own merits, without assuming an effort to undermine democracy.

I find many of the topics Professor Althouse raises pretty complicated, and I enjoy hearing different perspectives. I'm not trying to dodge taking a position. I just prefer not to be more certain than the evidence warrants.
Friendly disagreement is part of what makes these discussions worthwhile!
What I want to know is, how does a private NGO run by the Soros family get to recommend where they think immigrants, legal or illegal, should be settled? Who the f*ck are they, that they have such access to exercise their malign opinions into influence ?
