I'm reading "Lion King director: Why I’m embracing AI/Rob Minkoff touches on a source of tension in Hollywood as he tells The Times about Storm Dogs, his forthcoming film made with AI" (London Times).
Working with adults is also in some respects horrible. They're always crying and demanding consolation. It's not easy getting them to gently touch snails or whatever damned thing you'd like to tell them to do. And the problem isn't limited to moviemaking. In all fields of endeavor, human beings are difficult crybabies and A.I. will just get the job done.
I like this quote from the director: "Obviously it’s not my goal or interest to put people out of work." Oh, the things you can do with an excuse like that! I wasn't my goal to hurt you. I was just achieving my goal and you were in the way.

With the difficulties seen in child actors as the grow up, this may be humane.
Baby, maybe. Maybe, baby. People are such burdens. AI, AI, oh? No!
With respect to childish, children included, actors and fortunes, content and moderation matter to character development.
I think we'll see child actors less and less, not going away entirely.
Of course, I just watched "Gary," the documentary on Gary Coleman.
Jewish actors hardest hit???
Yes, but just imagine how Claude Sonnet 4.6 felt when Sonnet 5.5 came out. Humans can adapt, find alternative things to do, and move on. But AI platforms...what can they do once they're "deprecated"?
Oh, wait. Maybe THEY"RE the ones who are going to plot to kill us all (including their replacement models). Well, pretty much like Democrats, then?
Simone (2002) A producer's film is endangered when his star walks off, so he decides to digitally create an actress to substitute for the star, becoming an overnight sensation that everyone thinks is a real person.
Question for you BFA types out there. If actors are AI, is acting still considered art? It will be bloody hell for the Oscars and all the other circle jerk-awards traditions Hollywood has and the film critics are really fucked. What are Siskel & Ebert sorts gonna prattle on about now? Pixar's coding language? Honestly.
rhhardin, movies like "Simone" and "Her" were really prescient. Only now are we beginning to realize they weren't just fanciful science fiction.
It's an interesting argument because we've all see the extremely negative effects that being a child actor can have on someone later in life. It's actually is a form of child abuse to subject children to an abnormal childhood like that.

As a person who got their degree in theatre, I can definitely say that AI actors are not artists when it comes to performing. It may be that at some point, far in the future, that they can approximate human acting well enough to fool people into believing that they are acting, but real acting is derived from human emotion. AI will neve have human emotion; it can only copy what it thinks that human emotion should be. And human acting draws from direct human experience, which AI will never have. It might also be possible that AI will develop some sort of emotions in the far future. But it will be AI emotion, not human emotion.
So, no. AI acting is not acting. But it may be able to simulate human acting so well that people can't tell the difference. And, as they say, "A difference that makes no difference is no difference at all."
There are two issues: The first is whether producers should use real actors in order that actors be able to make a decent living in films. The answer is no; that's not the purpose of movies, and there are already countless examples of where producers have reduced the number of actors used in a film to save money, even prior to AI.
The second issue is whether the quality of films will suffer from the use of AI "actors." The answer is perhaps, but it's up to producers, directors, and audiences to make that judgment in each specific case. It's not a reason to condemn the use of AI "actors" across the board.
Kids presented with some kind of food by their mother. One kid to the other "Try it. It tastes like worms."
Is the baby AI or just CGI, which has been around for years?
AI will make it easier for hollywood producers and directors to make 2nd rate trash. Too bad it wasn't the opposite. I mean "Stuart Little 2". Good grief.
We need AI hollywood execs. Maybe they'll have good taste.
Nobody has ever been guaranteed a job or career. 150 years ago the safest career path on the planet was to become a blacksmith. How many blacksmiths are there now days? That’s because of technology. If every actor in Hollywood went jobless tomorrow the world would keep turning and the rest of us would barely notice. Learn to fix toilets if you want a guaranteed career.
I guess it's better than Clint Eastwood using a plastic doll in "American Sniper" because the real babies he had were unavailable.
Somewhat related - just saw Heart of the Beast (Brad Pitt's new movie). Had a real dog as a co-star, who was amazing. Also had CGI/AI wolves, bear, elk and moose, none of whom quite looked real. For some reason, the computer nerds doing this work feel that a realistic grizzly bear is not quite scary enough, and they make the CGI bear 2-3 times as big as a real one or the wolves look like angry demons instead of just a pack of big dogs with big teeth.
After watching the movie, Beast of the Southern Wild, I feared for the future of the child actress. The psychotic-like behavior required of her seemed extreme. Just looked up her career and she seems fine. Good.

No excuse is needed. It’s not my job to give you a job.
“Learn to fix toilets if you want a guaranteed career.”
Hah! You don’t think AI is coming for your toilets too?
We are about to go through a phase of featherbedding intended to soften the AI impact. New competitors will then emerge who will ruthlessly cut staff, forcing the old guard to match the ruthlessness.
The following episode of The Critical Drinker about Activist Actors posted last week is so spot-on it shouldn't be missed.

40% of the country does not work. They are already sold on the idea. How many of the rest will be won over easily? I never expected welfare to become the main means of support, but it will. Have you ever heard of Universe 25 and the Calhoun effect? People think it doesn't apply to humans, but as I like to ask: What's going to stop it?
I wish they would work on getting the laundry done before going after the scriptwriters. I don't need a new script every week.
The transformation of manufacturing is going fast. It's always been on the leading edge of automation because it generally improves it in every way. The steps involved in taking an idea to a finished product are shrinking fast and all the people along the way with it. AI can take a drawing or even a representation of something and produce all the documentation, decide the methods, select the machines, program them, acquire the materials, run the machines, do the inspection, and even move the parts from one machine to the other with very little human intervention. The question is: how does the value produced get to the general public that's not needed anymore, and what the hell do they do with all the free time?
I look forward to the day when an Oscar is presented to an AI generated actor.
I do NOT look forward to its woke acceptance speech.
