I think a lot of people around here feel that they should not be seen in public enjoying themselves. I saw a video posted on X that showed protesters loudly lecturing people who were sitting at the sidewalk tables outside a bar on State Street and the caption drew attention to one man who was just looking downward and looking slightly glum, as drinkers often do. The poster concluded this man was MAGA (i.e., subhuman). It was just a guy saying nothing, expressing NOTHING, sitting at a table. You can't do that anymore.

What a piece of shit town. I really don't care what happens in Madison, WI... but being the center of State Gov't and UW, it kind of wrecks things for the sane parts of this beautiful state.

And the people of the community- according to their self appointed spokesman- are in JUSTIFIED ANGER over the incident. 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝! Wow. How exactly is it justified? Are they angry at the miscreant for attacking with a knife? Or are they angry at the police for defending themselves using 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝! deadly force? Basic rule is- you don't necessarily get to choose how a deadly force encounter you started ends. Others have a say in the matter.

Communist leftists are getting their martyrs, however unjustified their martyrdom is. Saint George Floyd of Fentanyl wasn't first, and as we see here, not the last.

And the islamists? Being rewarded for their behavior, ensuring we'll get more such attacks, the deadlier the better in their worldview. And the vast majority of moderate muslims will view their fellow religionists who die or are arrested as martyrs to the cause.

There are a lot of videos and opinions floating around on X. Interesting from a retired WI cop and use of force instructor. And the entire "holier and smarter than thou" community of Madison just wipes this away as if it bears zero weight, when it is actually the full crux of the matter.

“At the conclusion of the conference, a tribute to Comrade Stalin was called for. Of course, everyone stood up (just as everyone had leaped to his feet during the conference at every mention of his name). The stormy applause, rising to an ovation, continued for three minutes, four minutes, five minutes… But palms were getting sore and raised arms were already aching. And the older people were panting from exhaustion. It was becoming insufferably silly even to those who really adored Stalin. However, who would dare be the first to stop?…

“ And in that obscure, small hall, unknown to the Leader, the applause went on—six, seven, eight minutes! They were done for! Their goose was cooked! They couldn’t stop now till they collapsed with heart attacks! At the rear of the hall, which was crowded, they could of course cheat a bit, clap less frequently, less vigorously, not so eagerly… Nine minutes! Ten! … Insanity! To the last man! With make-believe enthusiasm on their faces, looking at each other with faint hope, the district leaders were just going to go on and on applauding till they fell where they stood, till they were carried out of the hall on stretchers!”

Are the cops mad enough now, to stand by and watch crime happen? Or are they still intimidated, whereby they stand by and watch crime happen, but only if it's by the 'right' people, against the 'right' victims?

When they finally get mad enough, there's going to be some fun, boy.

Nope. The commies shut it down by illegally blocking the streets, causing massive inconvenience to many thousands of people and obviously substantial losses to vendors who had prepared for the festival. The fact that some people (not those who caused the problem) tried to mitigate the damage somewhat through charity, instead of having the guts to tell the commies to get the hell out of the way, doesn't make everything all right.

"Justified anger" is Rev. Alex Gee's catchphrase. Now the vendors have lost all the sales, likely most food product, and the labor they have already committed. Their employees lose work-hours. A footnote to your comment about clapping, also from Solzhenitsyn I think.

Stalin's speeches used to be recorded and offered on record albums. For the youngsters here, a "record album" used to be a physical album with 4-6-8 or so sleeves each holding a 78RPM record.

the applause used to be recorded and the speech albums would have 1 or more discs of nothing but applause.

Death of Stalin" with Steve Buscemi, Michael Palin, Hank Kingsly, Jason Isaacs and others is a funny but chilling movie. I recommend it.

I don't know what the contract looks like, but I know the costs involved for even a small-town fair. You're talking about losing between 50 -100K for each big food truck at least. And yet, these people just get by. They need to maintain, gas up, transport, and store their food trucks. Inspections and insurance are brutal. Food must be acquired weeks earlier, can't be returned, and they need walk-ins or industrial freezers for them. Employees must be vetted and paid.

If the good people of Madison are actually good, they will swarm the city council, insist the roads be cleared of protesters, demand the State Guard if necessary, and honor their commitments. Also inform every charity that they get no more donations until they purge the dolts who did this from their boards and bring in some new members with economic diversity and common sense. Reward those who do. Oh, and demand that all violent protesters be expelled from university.

There are ways to fight back.

https://socialistworker.org/2013/10/31/most-racist-city-in-the-us

MADISON, WIS., has a reputation as one of the most liberal cities in the country. It is also possibly the most racially unequal.

In early October, Race to Equity--a Madison-based initiative started by the Wisconsin Council on Children and Families--released a report detailing racial disparities in Madison, and more broadly in Dane County, Wis. The findings are staggering.

The Race to Equity researchers expected the numbers compiled for racial disparities in Dane County to be similar or slightly better than the national averages. After all, Madison has long prided itself on having quality public education, good jobs, access to health care and human services programs, a relatively high standard of living and, in general, a progressive outlook on social, economic and political questions.

But while living standards for the white population in Dane County are higher than the national average, for the Black population, the opposite is true. On every indicator, with only two exceptions out of 40 measures, statistics collected in Dane County demonstrated equal or higher racial disparities between whites and Blacks than the national averages.

The unfortunate truth is that the police always report to the Mayor. And the Mayor takes instructions from the community, especially the entitled rich but also the entitlement Super User poor, who are good at kicking back, for insurance.

You might recall a few years ago in MN, when the great rallying cries of 'Defund' and 'Nobody is Illegal' arose. Homeless encampments suddenly started to appear in some of the nicely-landscaped residential park areas, to the initial delight of nearby 'In This House...' residents. At least, until the attendant problems started to manifest, poop in the bushes, trashed out restrooms, syringes, assaults, robberies, home burglaries by druggies, etc. Then the Mayor got the calls and the riff raff were sent packing, pronto.

What you suggest would only work if the police were so fed up, they told the Mayor to f*ck off, f*ck straight off. Then there might be some change.

If you want to see real change, hire some scary, hardened criminals, and give them a ton of money based on results - in a way that is deniable. You'll see some changes then, I bet.
