What the Amazon best seller list is telling me about the 2026 elections:
1. Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump by Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan has consistently been #1 on Amazon since it was published on June 23 - it’s #7 today. It’s sold 500,000 copies and on track to be the #1 nonfiction book in sales for 2026. Meanwhile, Fahrenheit 451 and Animal Farm are back on Amazon’s bestseller list.
2.Then there’s The Odyssey - the movie, and now lots of versions on Amazon’s bestseller list. A generation is reaching for a struggle story with a shape to it. Homer gives them the template. Corey Ruiz in Madison gives them the inciting incident. Struggle stories in an age of abundance favor disrupters, because the disrupter promises to be the hero of the story the audience already wants to be in. That’s the position Democrats are gearing up to claim in 2026.

The Nolan movie as gotten me back into Homer. Now reading the various versions of the Odyssey. Plus commentaries. Incredible that this poem first written down in 700 BC, that is 2700 years ago, is still interesting and moving.

The Illiad is more action packed, but the Odyessey has more humanity in it.

Struggle story in the making.
Look at what Wikler actually did in one sentence: “soul-ripping, mind-rending nightmare” - that’s not political analysis, that’s Iliad register. “Corrupt authoritarianism,” “lawless assault on democracy itself” - those are the stakes of an epic, not a policy dispute. He’s not describing 2026 America; he’s casting it. Setting: fallen republic. Villain: the tyrant. Protagonist slot: You, the voter, if you choose to vote Democrat.

Also, had time to see some movie reviews of the Nolan Odyssey. Critical Drinker and some others are spot on. I'm always puzzed at why Nolan chose this Homer to make a movie of. But then Oppenheimer was an even stranger choice.

You need women to make a movie a success, and I couldn't see many women caring about either Homer or building the A-bomb. Most of Nolan's movies have zero great roles for actresses. Who was the female lead in Oppenhiemer, Dark Knight or Momento? I cant remember. And of course, Dunkirk was a war movie.

Nolan in the Odyssey , like Anderson with his "One battle after another", more or less airbrushed all the beautiful white women out of it. We get Hathaway who's a sort of middle-aged Karen and then there's Cirsi played by a 50 year old over-the-hill actress.

Of course Damon is too old for his role too. And is the actor who played his son.

Nolan, whether consciously or un, is trying to rescue heroic masculinity from the right’s monopoly on it, move the male vote toward the Democrat Party.

I'm always struck at the stupidity of much of the rightwing movie reviews. They simply cant understand several things, namely:

1) Hollywood is a Globalist enterprise. It makes most of its money overseas.
2) Directors/Producers no matter how big (unless they're mel gibson) are not free agents. Even assuming they are "Rebels" who disagree with the politics of the Entertainment Industry, they cant get financing, distribution, good reviews, unless they "Play Ball" ad "Follow the party line".
3) No movie that cost over $100 million get made without the Hollywood bigwigs signing off and having input.
4) Hollywood is not out to make the most money. They're out to make enough money while pushing their leftwing politics.

Minneapolis Antifa is calling on people to go to Madison.

One more thing about reviews of Nolan's Odyssey. I haven't read any unqualified postive reviews. Pretty much everyone agrees that "Stunt casting" is weird, the writing is bad, and it moves at sluggish pace.

The “stunt casting” has been very successful in a generating a lot of free publicity AND drawing in audiences, movie has essentially broken even with no sign of slowing down. Big win for Nolan.

Budget for The Odyssey was $250 million, today's cumulative gross was $286.4 million, according to Box Office Mojo, so.... not a bomb, by any definition. I was pretty entertained by Nolan's Batman franchise, but I doubt I'll got to a theater to see this one.

A win for nolan in the sense that a lot of Weird Karens and Winebox aunts will go see the movie to show their support for a black helen of troy and transgender whosit.

You sorta see that reaction among the dumb libtard commentary online. Its gone from "Who wants to see a film about old white men in Ancient Greece?" to " OMG, the nazis are attacking a black helen of Troy and a transgender, maybe its a great movie after all."

I think the Odyssey will do well overseas. Nobody in Asia or South America or India knows who Homer is or cares. They just like a rousing adventure movie. And the multi-racial cast will probably be a plus.

Its not like the JJ Abrams star wars movies that lost business because they had black man kissing an asian woman.

There really is a group called Queers for Palestine.
There are women who work to keep rapists on the streets of their city
There are "reporters" absolutely committed to telling only one side of the story.
There are college students who cannot read a long book, write cursive letters or do fractions.

These phenomena emanate from the blue cities. Make aliyah to America if you live in a blue city.
