"After an uncredited part as a masseuse in the Peter Sellers comedy 'What’s New Pussycat?' (1965), written by Mr. Allen, and a voice-over in 'What’s Up, Tiger Lily?' (1966), Mr. Allen’s directorial debut..."

"... Ms. Lasser had full-fledged roles — with character names and screen time — in Mr. Allen’s next three auteur efforts, which he wrote, directed and starred in. In 'Take the Money and Run' (1969), she was a bank robber’s neighbor, impressed by his fame. In 'Bananas' (1971), she was the hero’s activist girlfriend who drops him because he shows no political leadership skills. The next year, in 'Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex (But Were Afraid to Ask),' she played a woman who could achieve orgasm only in public. In the middle of all that filmmaking, in 1970, the Allens divorced...."

Those were three of my favorite Woody Allen movies, the ones that actually aimed to be funny, not "humorous."

Then came the unpleasantness....

She also starred in the "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" TV show, which was kind of strange but did introduce the world to the great Martin Mull.

RIP Louise Lasser.
To this day, I always suggest "Mom and Pop's Bide-A-Wee Inn (hourly rates)" as a possibility for vacation lodging. My dear wife continues to fail to see the humor, but she was a more productive person in the Mary Hartman stage of her life than I was.
You were a funny lady, Louise. Well done.

I saw What's Up Tiger Lily on an outdoor screen on Kwajalein, night's entertainment for the workers. The latest movies.

I miss the days when sex was cute and consensual with age appropriate participants.

She had a very funny guest role in Taxi, as Alex's ex-wife - who gets involved with Louie.

That's a sentence you don't expect to see in a thread about Woody Allen movies.

I liked her. Her style made it seem like she never got the joke.

He should have written the scripts for his life more like his movies.

When I was a kid, soap operas were for bored housewives. The exceptions, and the only ones I ever watched, were "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" and "Dark Shadows." Fond memories from childhood.

Back when the very concept of an electric toilet seat warmer was a ridiculous punchline.

Another part of our happy youth...gone. RIP to Louise Lasser. A great character in anything she played. Actually, she was always herself.
.

And...not about Louise Lasser, but just for a good late morning laugh. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B94lP-fZyLk>The great Gene Wilder</a>. Woody could definitely make you laugh.

Try this: The great Gene Wilder.

Her father was the JK Lasser who built his fortune on income tax guide books. Tragic -- both her parents were suicides. She and Woody were only married for four years. I guess she got too old for him.

I really liked “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman” but today I have no idea why.

That's the only thing I remember from the show MH, MH.

I guess Diane Keaton is the one who got the best roles in Allen's best movies Mia Farrow also made some good movies with Allen. Those early movies were funny but Allen was the star presence and her roles weren't especially complex. She was his wife and not his muse........Mia Farrow got better roles, if you don't count her role as domestic partner. That game wasn't worth the candle.

She hosted Saturday Night Live in the 70s and had to be coaxed from her dressing room to start the show. Nerves. They had to have a Plan B ready to go in case she never came out. I guess performing live for millions of people wasn't as common back then.

Just what I need, another reminder that the 70s were 50 years ago.

Orgasm is better as a verb. Don’t need to “achieve orgasm.” You just orgasm.

In women, I prefer the over-achiever.

They were great movies largely because of Diane Keaton's performances. (And especially in "Annie Hall" and "Manhattan," the roles were largely based on her real-life personality.)

Louise Lasser was very funny but more limited. Mia Farrow was a good actress but not so funny (and she often seemed to be halfway doing a Woody impression in his films.)

RCOCEAN II చెప్పారు...

Lasser was a complete mediocrity. If you have access go watch her SNL performance. She's about as funny as a toothache. The same is true of Mary Kay Place. Both were on Norman Lear's "Mary Hartmann" show.

Just another example of the limited choices we had back then. Someone like Norman Lear could say "Hey, I'll put Carl Reiners son on a show" or "I'll put Woodys wife, ex-wife, on a show" and boom their America's idols.

Lasser didn't do anything before Mary Hartmann and she didn't do anything after. She has a certain amount of talent but in today's enviroment she'd be a nobody.

RCOCEAN II చెప్పారు...

Comparing Lasser to Diane Keaton is an insult to Keaton. Diane had talent. She was a serious actress and she could do comedy. Same with mia farrow (a complete wacko bird).

Anyway, glad Lasser made it to 87. Unlike Rob Reiner. Thank God she never reproduced. Imagine a daughter of Woody and Lasser with his looks and her brains.
