"So we tended to start by trying to win the ones that were most popular. Gays in the military. Employment. We didn’t go after same-sex marriage, we didn’t make marriage a litmus test, until the very end. I analogize that to male-to-female transgender sports. That is the most controversial part of the agenda — the equivalent of gay marriage — so put it at the end. If you go at it that way, you build support for it. But if you insist on the most controversial parts all at once, you make it harder."
Said Barney Frank, quoted in "Barney Frank, in Hospice, Has Advice for the Democrats/Mr. Frank speaks about the missteps of the Democratic Party and his hope for its future. 'Frankly, if I weren’t dying, people wouldn’t be paying as much attention'" (NYT).

The sequencing has accelerated to the point that it might as well be all at once.
Also, gays in the military was the most popular change? With who? The military? No. Gays? How many really wanted to join up or come out of the camo closet? The general public? Their reaction varied from 'huh?' to 'fuck no!' CC, JSM
Barnie forgets he waa one of the architects of the subprime collapse which was covered up by an army of scribes ans then like montag was depicted as the heroic fireman in dodd frank
I assume that gay people really are gay, and not just pretending. Trans people are simply not what they say they are and thus do not deserve the rights of the people they are usurping for personal pleasure or attention.
The trouble of course is that he misses the core arguments that helped move toward gay rights and now have bumped into a problems with trans rights. Gay rights moved forward because they won with "why does this affect you?" Why does it matter if two guys get married to you?
But trans rights crashed through that an into violating the rights of others. The argument that your personal beliefs/behavior don't affect others ends when others are affected and their rights and beliefs are violated.
Dress like a women but when you beat out women in sports or imposing male physicality in private women's spaces that is violating the rights that women have earned over the years in society.
That he can't or won't see that is curious. I suspect he does but knows if he said that is taking things too far it he'd be kicked out of his various clubs.
I suppose gays in the military was first because that actually seemed like a violation of rights that you could not support/defend your country due to something that may not directly affect your ability to do so.
"so put it at the end. If you go at it that way, you build support for it."
Put it at the end: it's always about the ass, isn't it?
…they’ve torched any credibility with me. Best I can come up with is- is he in hospice the way Joe Biden has late stage cancer?
Sims in disparate competition, inclusion with females is one issue. The exploitation of homos and confused boys and girls through surgical, medical, and psycho-atric corruption is another. That said, civil unions for all consenting adults. Political congruence ("=") is a liberal conception and political Choice... uh, choice. #NoJudgment #NoLabels
Trans (e.g. homos) in the military is a matter of self-control and discretion. For everyone, really.
I mean, I know that civil rights movements, like any other, have to have strategy and tactics. But wasn't the whole gay rights agenda fed to the public as having such fierce moral urgency that the grass roots simply rose up on their own and spontaneously demanded it?
It was as genuine as every other astroturf campaign
Democrats were never fighting for gay rights.
They were always fighting to destroy the United States.
Barney Frank never got the memo.
The Left never solves a problem despite winning politically. They need to energize their grievance-minded base.
So, despite all the social progress of the past 60 years, we are still living in a racist, homophobic, White Supremacy patriarchy run by fascists.
1st step - plea for tolerance.
2nd step - Don't be a meanie and discriminate
3rd step - Demand equality
4th step - Demand superiority. Destroy anyone who disagrees. Bottom Rail is now on top.
Barney Frank was a degenerate who was running a Gay Prostitution ring in his basement. He denied any knowledge. Waah, that wasn't me, that was my boyfriend. I was just living in the house.
After it was known, his popularity in Massachutes went up. Its like Ted kennedy leaving a woman to die. New Englanders love that crap.
He's 86. That's way above the average for those born in 1940.
seriously, no one cares what that pervert thinks. He should be dying in a jail cell. The whole trans agenda, like global warming, is BS, and everyone knows it. Of course, if the left regains power, first thing after open borders, printing more money, would be trans in everything. Because they really are that out of touch and evil.
Paddy O nailed it.

Shit, Barney Frank wrote the memo. This goes hand in hand with what Bill Maher was just begging libtards, and there were others begging the same. All Democrat Party members telling their ideological comrades to lie and deceive the public about the true goals of Party members. Absolute rule over the USA.
a fight I think we have essentially won
“ Just as when a hungry person dreams of eating and wakes up still hungry, or a thirsty person dreams of drinking and wakes up faint, still thirsty,”
Americans will never hear a Democrat Party member advise other Party members to be open and honest and tell the American people the truth. They always only chide their side for not lying well enough. I guess that's why they all love Bill Clinton, he was a successful liar, and when he got caught he just lied harder.
What political secrets is Barney still keeping mum on? I think gay rights decided its best chances were to piggyback on the civil rights movement, they used a lot of the same tactics and appropriated a lot of the language, and slid sexual perversity across the doorjamb as civil rights became mainstream. Which was then followed by normalizing even more pronounced and extreme sexual perversions. Their mistake was when they decided to go after our kids, openly.
Now, it's a complicated world, and the human sexual spectrum is full of variations. But I think society mostly understood that there are square pegs in relatively small numbers, and they can be mostly tolerated and even indulged, as long as there's an mutual understanding of what 'normal' looks like. And why it's important to the species.
What happened over the past dozen years or so is that the Death Cult removed its mask and decided to try capturing the 'Normal' flag by rout. It would appear that the normies drew the line at the predation of kids, having realized that their tolerance was being exploited as acquiescence.
Gay marriage and men beating up women in sports are not the same thing.
progressives GOTTA progress..
they are like sharks; if they don't KEEP Moving Forward; they'll die.
so; 1st a simple thing (like, sodomy shouldn't be a Capital Offence..)
then; a little more (it should actually be perfectly legal..)
then; a little more (it's JUST AS GOOD as regular stuff..)
then; a little more.. and more.. and More.. And More.. AND MORE
So all of the people saying the camel’s nose under the tent analogy were correct.
It had already been acknowledged that gay in military was "accepted". So going a little further was not exactly a giant leap for mankind. Even people disgusted with gay or lez may accept as a private thing it but def don't want to be expected to applaud it.
"the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT) policy was created and implemented during the administration of President Bill Clinton. It was announced in July 1993 and went into effect on February 28, 1994, acting as a compromise regarding the service of LGBTQ+ individuals in the military

Funny thing- homosexuals aren't tolerated in either Communist or islamic nations- the nations demoncrats root for and support.
The younger people of today aren't too tolerant of them either. And hostility towards them is growing.
Another thing about the "I was born this way crowd." All of them are lying. Every male homosexual I've known had homosexual sex as a minor with an adult male. AKA- child rape. Every single one. They were all abused as minors. Some younger, some older. And they go on as adults abusing minors themselves. These are uncomfortable truths.
Now is it possible some of them had some same sex attraction without emotional or physical abuse? Yes. But for almost all- their first actual sexual act is as a minor with an adult male.
Lesbians aren't as well studied. A lot of childhood sexual abuse as a causation agent wouldn't surprise me. But by adult men, not lesbian women. Turning them off to men. And women, being women, are much more inclined to do trendy things- like being a lesbian. I suspect everyone here is familiar with the terms LUGs and SLUGs, applying to college girls. Lesbians until graduation and selective lesbians until graduations, with better tastes...
The males posing as females in females sports is most damaging to the whole entire LBGT+ movement, which must of course, include the furries and bronies and every other sexual perversion that exists. And they don't help build public support.
Nope. Leftists don't get that harming women - real women - is not OK.
Paddy O - is exactly 100% correct.
I thought he was dead also.
"I thought he was dead also."
No, that's Snake Plissken.
It's interesting that he articulates the notion that there is a strategic ladder built into nominally benign proposals. Doesn't that validate the slippery slope arguments which insist that you have to fight like hell from the outset?
But what interests me more is that he seems oblivious to the proposition that the gay rights contingent was being used by others to sow misery and disruption in the society at large. Maybe he knew.
This ignores that gay marriage was the ultimate bait and switch. It started with all the touching stories about how these couples just wanted to be able to be by each other's side if they wind up in the hospital.
This led to a number of states creating and formalizing the domestic partnership category to cover hospitals, insurance, and inheritance. It seemed like a good compromise to keep the institution of marriage aimed at the nuclear family.
In the end, however, the very existence of the domestic partnership solution was used with the "separate but equal" label to push the courts to enact same sex marriage.
Then this was used along with some state-level "human rights commissions" to harass bakers and photographers. A long way from the "how does it hurt you?" initial premise.
Don't ask, Don't tell was a brilliant move.
"Another thing about the "I was born this way crowd." All of them are lying. Every male homosexual I've known had homosexual sex as a minor with an adult male. AKA- child rape. Every single one. This is a filthy lie. Child rape has absolutely nothing to do with homosexuality. I have a very large extended family with dozens of cousins, some gay, and none of them were ever molested by anyone, or mistreated for being an effeminate male or a masculine female. They all came from normal American suburban homes with two loving parents. That shit about child raping making gays is some sick, degenerate thinking.
Barney was always a shithead. Had nothing to do with his sexual preferences ( to me, at least).
Don’t ask - don’t tell, had been military policy for ages before Clinton formalized it. Rarely became an issue unless an individual could not resist making the matter clear.
I worked for some, with some and above some. Most were great at their jobs and more than a few were great friends. I once shit-canned my senior NCO, for disrespect of another guy who worked for him (and was not just brilliant but a far better human being). My main conversational companion and great pal for several years in Tokyo was a C-130 driver who batted from the other side of the plate.
I was once charged with signing-off on a less than honorable discharge of a young guy who was “unmistakable” but not deliberately. He also had a spotless history as an air traffic controller. Due to an immature reaction to a ridiculous command, he’d accepted behavioral counseling by a psychologist. The doc ratted him out, without a second thought (there is a reason many military members with demanding jobs and high security clearances NEVER report their troubles to the military medical system). FWIW, I told the JAG to go fuck himself and wrote a report stating that the guy now understood his mistake and was a great asset doing a critical job very well. He was able to remain on active duty.
“Uniform” has a very specific meaning. Rainbow flags are outside the envelope.
Male-to-female transgenders in women's sports will always be controversial because it is so obviously unfair to women because of the transgenders' fundamental biological advantages in athletic competition. Nothing can change that.
Interesting assortment of comments today. Almost uniform in opinion regarding the gay agenda. I would have thought followers of this blog to be more pro-homosexual. Or at least less hostile to the homosexual agenda. To accept the message broadcast in the corporate media and "popular" entertainment, i.e., movies and TV, one would think all America is pro-homosexual. I guess it still holds true that, despite the portrayal of gays as existing in huge numbers and being "just like you and me," they still only form a tiny percentage of the population, but their message is artificially amplified. Good to know.
Michael Fitzgerald. Right on. Same. I know many gay men, none of them were molested, and 10 out of 10 came from typical suburban homes. My brother included.
I think Frank gets too much of a pass for the policies he pushed that led to the 2008 financial collapse. It may be liberal to give loans to anyone wanting one, but in terms of policy, it is disastrous to remove all the guardrails that determine the ability to repay those loans.
…yah, he told banks they couldn’t come to the discount window unless they wrote bad loans. So, they wrote bad loans…
No babies were aborted... Planned in trans progress. So, there's that. As for Frank, judge him by his character, not his spectrum membership. Homophobia: the fear or hate that his sexual orientation and couplets have no redeeming value to society or humanity is real. Albinophobia in Rainbow rhetoric and banners, too. Then there is the separate but incongruent exclusion of sims in liberal politicking. Don't judge, don't label, a Pro-Choice religion where reconciliation is a viable and forward-looking burden.
Liberal loans with progressive prices is an Ouroboros policy of monopolistic order.
Propaganda is always more effective when deep down, your targets know that you have right on your side, but you run up against limits when you are just imposing your will for reasons of power.
The root logic is simple:
- Most societies push for or tolerate "no friction" social interaction. This means sticking to business, not abusing others, no gay grooming nor adult men manipulating young girls, no shoving sex "in your face," etc.
- Growing and sustainable societies prefer fertile relationships that produce a next generation. They will die out otherwise. While gays may be pressed to perform a reproductive duty, plenty of people have fertility issues and non-gay people refuse to have children too (e.g., priests and nuns -- and often gay themselves). Using old-time language, it's tough to prove the cause of a "barren marriage."
The evolutionary future belongs to the breeders. All non-fertile lives fade into history. This is thereby a temporary "gain," and it's bound to revert to functionality.
They did a study once of men and women and how they responded to seeing someone punished, the men did not like it when innocent people were punished, but kind of enjoyed seeing guilty people punished, and the women did not like it when innocent or guilty people were punished. That’s what the Democrats appeal to, so of course the Democrats are going to push bad loans and protection of illegal immigrants, and the destruction of women’s sports, they empathize with the offenders, women just can’t compete with men in most sports, doesn’t matter to Democratic voters if an ancient carve out for women is thrown out for the same reasons.
Frank is the clown who molested the sleeping/unconscious woman for gay giggles, right? Or was that another clown?

Close. Franken.
n.n., that was Minnesota senator Al Franken. Barney Frank was a Masshole congressman whose foul policies led to the subprime loan disaster that led to the presidency of Purple Lips Obama.
Frank was notorious for committing felonies on multiple occasions and skating. Ran a gay prostitution ring out of his DC apartment, got busted for dealing marijuana also out of his DC home, and there was at least one other arrestable offense that he dodged I can't recall, but he is and was a complete scumbag/typical Democrat Party member.
So what he's really saying is to boil the frog slowly. A lesbian I know says lesbians are being shoved back into the closet, or worse, by elite gay men for saying they don't want to sleep with pervy fake "transwomen."
And what a good idea to start pumping mentally ill girls with testosterone.
Thanks for the revolution, Barney. The above aren't rights, by the way. They're typical leftist weapons. And sexual violation.
Frank is an evil elder but not the worst
Michael Fitzgerald 12:18 AM--Well said!
I find the idea that normal male sexual attraction to females can somehow be "turned" to be ludicrous. It's sort of hard-wired, and powerful to the point of being the primary governing life-force for most young males (and old males as well). (Obviously, sexual abuse of minors is abhorrent and has horrible long-term consequences, but "turning children gay" seems unlikely. Wouldn't the likely psychological effect be the opposite-a horror of gay sex?)
I have a gay son and several gay nieces and nephews. Unless I am even more clueless than I think I am (which is pretty damn clueless, but still...) there has never been any hint of abuse of any sort involved.
I can't see widespread support for men in women's sport EVER becoming mainstream.
@ Michael Fitzgerald - Does your extended family all share their first sexual experiences with each other? That’s weirder than being gay.
Goggles do nothing
Oso Negro- I'd punch your fucking lights out right now if I could get my hands on you, fuckface.
Some of you shitheads are really showing your asses in this thread.
Seriously though when did we start mainstreamjng aberrant behavior and stigmatizing normal ones
Hey, Barny. Thanks for the mortgage market collapse! Have a nice trip.
@IAmDevo: "... I would have thought followers of this blog to be more pro-homosexual. Or at least less hostile to the homosexual agenda. ..."
But why should anybody be 'pro-homosexual'? I think this is part of the problem, demanding that others cheer-lead something they don't necessarily endorse, themselves.
I think, as a nation, Americans can sometimes be petty with their prejudices just like anybody else, but on balance, Americans tend to let things ride, tend to be more tolerant of diversity than many, many other places in the world. On balance - meaning the extreme ends of the bell curve that represents political valences of Left and Right, are excluded.
I think the majority really doesn't care very much about sexual preference, and is mostly willing to interact with people based on their character, unless sexual matters get shoved in their face unpleasantly, with the kind of relentless energy that we've seen over the past few years.
I think Americans have a bigger problem with having demands placed on their attention, combined with attacks on their own values, because in reality these are attacks on their freedoms. I think they find these behaviors a bigger problem than either race or homosexuality presents, as a societal issue.
It's interesting that he articulates the notion that there is a strategic ladder built into nominally benign proposals. Doesn't that validate the slippery slope arguments which insist that you have to fight like hell from the outset?
That's where I was headed.
I was lukewarmly (to coin a word) opposed to gay marriage back in the early aughts on the same basis as Megan McArdle - that if imposed on society rather than taking place gradually and organically, it would affect marital behavior on the margins in ways we couldn't predict. While I tend to think that has happened, and falling marriage rates are at least in part linked to the "devaluation" or redefinition of marriage, overall I'm in the "All right, fine, here we are" camp now. But I read Frank's statement exactly this way: we wanted the whole banana peel from the outset, so we bamboozled society into thinking we wanted a lot less so we could make each step look reasonable and indeed necessary.
Strategic ladder...
But of course anyone who predicted exactly that, was denounced as a paranoid bigot.
So it's a difference in tactics. The thing about the Biden years, though, was that Biden's cronies had a "seize the day" mentality. This was their time to do what they wanted to do and if they didn't do it they feared the window would close and the opportunity would pass for a generation or longer. A movement outside electoral politics can plan a decades long strategy. Those in politics always have their eye on the two-year and four-year clocks.
Barney mellowed? He got nice? Maybe, but maybe he can still be as much of an a-hole with hospice staff as he was in Congress. He was Katie Porter when Katie Porter was still in primary school.
Barney likely knew what his lover was up to but was he actually running the prostitution ring himself? It's not impossible, but it's hard to state as a fact. Barney got another partner a job with Fannie Mae when he was regulating that agency. Not a peep from the media about that. Not even the whiff of suspicion that hangs over other DC nepotists. The bigger scandal, though, was how he (and so many others) let the country slide into the Great Recession of 2008. He largely escaped his share of responsibility for that as well.
What Barney leaves out is that there is NEVER an end. Never.
Democrats are using trans to attack American families and society. Democrats have previously used unions to attack worker's rights, Civil Rights to reinstate racism, the Women's Movement to create sexual conflict with men and enshrine abortion, and Gay Rights to attack families and culture. Every time Democrats infest a group they use that group to further unrest and division. Like a community organizer whose job is to rub raw the wounds of grievance, victimization, and entitlement.
