Trump backs temporary US gas tax cut as Iran war pushes fuel prices to near-record highs ~ WSJ
'Republican Senator Josh Hawley introduces legislation after Donald Trump backs move'
The problem here is a short term physical scarcity of crude oil and therefore of distillates like gasoline.
Absent rationing, the price will adjust in the short term to choke off exactly enough demand so that each week every gas station sells all the gas it can get.
That means that cutting this tax will not in fact lower the cost of gasoline for the American driver. The price will stay the same or rise to reach the same level as it would have.
What the tax cut will do is to divert those 18 cents per gallon from the Federal government to the oil companies. Since the taxpayers all have to pay the government’s bills in the end, this proposal amounts to a huge gift from US consumers and taxpayers to oil companies.
The proposal will do nothing in the short term to increase production of crude oil or of gasoline.
It is amazing that voters and lawmakers don’t understand this.
Obviously in the longer term people drill more wells, pump more oil and refine more oil. But the current high prices already provide an adequate incentive for that and those processes take 6 to 24 months before there is more supply for consumers. Voters and lawmakers often overlook incidence and elasticity basics here.

What about the rest of the cases? The dympyomd of Andes hantavirus include fever z(can produce perspiration), diarrhea, and vomiting. Could he have transmitted body fluids to the sheets? And could the sheets have been washed to where they looked clean but still harbored the virus? Had the crew and housekeeping staff been aware of the danger they might have burned the sheets but the index case was initially believed to have died of heart disease. Sheets that were washed but still harboring the virus provide a very good explanation as to why the disease spread randomly to other passengers.

If the ship is following standard commercial laundry guidance- the sheets are being washed at 160°F which will kill all viruses and bacteria.
Became a problem at one place I worked. The laundry requirements clashed with the requirement that inmates not get water >120°F for fear they'll burn themselves... Had to replumb the laundry building so all the taps were tempered to 120°F.
Know what survives and thrives at 120°F? Legionella. So twice a year all the other storage tanks had to be heated up to 160°F for four hours, minimum. To kill off legionella. I'm willing to bet most don't actually do that... but have paperwork that say they do.
My water heater is set to 150°F. I trust that anyone who comes into my house knows how to use a faucet properly. I have two tempering valves- 1 for each bidet seat. Too cold and too hot there are bad for different reasons...
Eileen Wang, the mayor of Arcadia, California, has been charged with acting as an illegal foreign agent for China, the Justice Department announced on Monday.
Wang agreed to plead guilty, the Justice Department said.
Starting in late 2020 Wang and Yaoning “Mike” Sun worked together to operate a website called U.S. News Center that “purported to be a news source for the local Chinese-American community.”
The Justice Department said in a plea agreement that Wang and Sun “received and executed directives from PRC (People’s Republic of China) government officials to post pro-PRC content on the website, and sometimes sought approval from PRC government officials to circulate other pro-PRC content.”
In one instance in November 2021, Wang wanted to circulate an article about the Chinese and Russian ambassador asking for Americans to respect the PRC’s “democratic rights.”
Democrats like Chuck are all just Chinese agents at this point.

Incorrect, there is no supply restriction in the US. The supply restriction is in Asia and Europe, so price rises to discourage export of US oil overseas, there are not enough tankers available to make a big shift in export. And since producers don’t profit from gas taxes they are irrelevant to the decision to export and flow to the customer. If gas stations just stop paying the tax and don’t lower prices that can be a concern that should be addressed by gouging rules. So the implementation needs watching, but it is not a supply and demand issue.
You wonder whether “Indefinitely Extended Excursion™️” actually believes the Chinese propaganda that he continuously spots, or is happy taking their money.
Glenn Reynolds (Instapundit) has suggested that Trump is following Gen Winfield Scott’s Anaconda plan, of the mid 1800s. His plan did two important things for the Union in the Civil War. First, he cut the South into two pieces, by controlling the Mississippi River. That meant the two parts of the Confederacy couldn’t work together. And secondly, the South was prevented from trading, and esp with the British. This was devastating to an export based economy like the South’s.
The thing that Trump saw was that Iran had an economy based on selling their oil, and China has one that requires the import of natural resources, and esp here, oil and gas. Turns out that China had set it up that they traded top missiles and other arms with Iran for below market oil and gas. And Trump essentially shut that down almost completely. And with Iran attacking the ships of various foreign countries, in the strait of Hormuz, in neutral waters, the US Navy was justified in intercepting all trade into or out of Iran. That is devastating Iran and its ability to sell its oil and gas, and especially to China.

The point is that when you "copy-paste" an extended passage from another source, it calls into question whether you have any understanding of what you are posting.
Joe Rogan: "They'll pretend that Hillary Clinton didn't do multiple speeches where she said that the election was stolen, Russia stole the election, with no evidence. But when [Trump] questions the election, it's a threat to democracy."
@Achilles, i was just seeing who I could provoke into labeling me a misogynist. I mean, taken to its logical extreme, Kelley Paul would disqualify all DAs from prosecuting homicide cases because they’re alive and homicide is about changing people’s state away from living.
Ahead of Barrett I would have listed the North Carolina judge who released schizophrenic Decarlos Brown, Jr. back into society to murder a blonde Ukrainian refugee. But I did have to get to bed.
How come no pollsters ever asked the public if they believed John Hinkley “really shot Reagan.” No pollsters ever gauged public opinion on the veracity of Squeaky Fromme’s assassination attempt or Sarah what’s-her-name. Why? Why not ask if the guy who shot rifle rounds at the White House while Obama and his family were elsewhere was a fake?
But now every leftist polling firm is asking about the attempts to kill Trump and we know exactly why. Research shows that repetitive questions have the effect of shaping answers. So they report on the unsurprising results prompted by the propaganda technique of repetition and reinforcement and their allies in the DNC media (including Fox and the rest) have an echo chamber that never stops talking about assassination and Democrats keep winking and giving permission for people to try. The daily mention of killing Trump is the permission structure.
Anything you hear every fucking day is being broadcast for a reason. Seeing the motive in plain sight is rather startling. So what are you going to do about it?
Today is primary Election Day in Nebraska and I’m running to be an Omaha Public Power District director.
Much to my surprise, I got the endorsement of a major state-level blogger who is very active on FB and has a huge following.
My main opponent has raised over $75k and has about a dozen endorsements as he is a former state senator.
Two advance to the general election. There are four candidates; the other two are both women. One is another former state senator and candidate for governor while the other is the incumbent.
Just to add to your point; The midterms are seem as a referendum on the President. The more highly regarded the president and the job he’s doing, the better his party does. So anything that can blur Trump’s bravery and grace under trying circumstances is worth doing ax far as the Democrat press is concerned.
Mike @ 5:49, If the concern is truly political violence and dangerous rhetoric, it seems rather cultish to apply it to only one party. I don’t recall the same people expressing equal concern over the assault on Paul Pelosi, threats against Democratic officials, murder and attempted murder of Democratic state lawmakers, or violent rhetoric directed at immigrants, journalists, judges, or election workers. Or for that matter, celebrating violence and murder of those who spoke unfavorably of their charismatic leader.
It seems like much of MAGA increasingly notices violence only when it reinforces their preferred political narrative, and ignores it when it doesn’t. That selective outrage may be part of what keeps the fear and hostility escalating, which seems to be the intent of the Outrage Machine that feeds the Gulibles.
Fuck off RJW. I lived through hundreds of bombings by the Left in the 70s. We noticed it all along. It is your side that PRETENDS TO BLINDNESS when people you don't like are being harassed and killed. That is when your side is not openly celebrating murder like they did last August with Charlie Kirk, a man who's only sin was showing up to hold conversations with college students.
Note, I only saw your last 'graf because there was nowhere left to scroll down, but that stupid ahistorical fragment of a take is enough for me to urge you to to fuck all the way off unless you want to contribute to the Peace for a change.
Democrats allies bombed the US Capitol and surrounding over 1400 times. Bill Ayers and his wife ran with a bank robbing crew that killed people and he was Obama's best buddy. Wrote the "autobiography" for him if you believe the analysis. Clinton of course pardoned the FLN terrorists who bombed the capital. The political violence has always come from the left in this country, with only a couple notable exceptions. Without even counting how many innocent men women and children died in Waco at the hands of the Feds. Democrats of course.
So save your MAGA shit for some rube who is as ignorant as yourself. That gaslighting has no power here.
Mike, it’s easy to acknowledge left-wing political violence in the 60s and 70s. It existed, it was wrong, and much of it was condemned by mainstream Democrats at the time.
But the idea that political violence in America “has always come from the left,” while right-wing violence, militias, racial terror, extremist attacks, Jan. 6, assaults on elected officials, and threats against judges or election workers get minimized or treated as isolated exceptions doesn’t square.
You’re not giving an historical analysis but rather a selective ownership of history. Simply put, tribal.
You’re also connecting millions of ordinary Democrats to every violent act committed by fringe leftists across 50 years while objecting when anyone associates ordinary conservatives with extremists on the right. That standard seems to work only one direction. Again, tribal.
And respectfully, if the goal is genuinely peace, it probably helps to stop describing half the country as enemies engaged in coordinated murderous intent. That mindset escalates fear and hostility regardless of who is doing it, which again, is exactly what the leaders of the tribe want you to do.

Proving his own point.
Is there some reason why gas prices are so much higher in California than Missouri? Has Missouri just decided to bestow a gift upon the oil companies? Are those poor Missouri taxpayers just forced to go along with the gift to the oil companies by not having to pay taxes, unlike those lucky Californians?
Yes California funnels the gas taxes into the Climate Mitigation Fund run by Gavin's buddies who then donate the money back to Democrats. Gas taxes in CA end up with the DNC. If they lowered the gas taxes then Democrats would run short.

"A trooper and a civilian, a former Marine, fired their weapons and struck the gunman, who was later identified as Tyler Brown, multiple times, according to the DA. Brown is under arrest and is hospitalized, Ryan said.
Brown will be charged with two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, possession charges with respect to the weapon, as well as a variety of other charges, Ryan said. He was under the supervision of probation for a previous crime, according to the DA."
LOL the DSA commie candidate Mayor Karen "Castro Revolutionary" Bass has BAILED OUT of the next debate, after Pratt wiped the floor with her last time. Day before and she cut and ran. Just like most democrats in CA are doing this primary season. They just refuse to debate. Like the husk of Biden did until pressure was too great.
Mike@ 8:35, there you go again; debate participation tends to become a principle only when the other side declines. It’s the same hypocritical recurring pattern that shows up often in highly tribal political discourse; when “our side” avoids debates, it’s strategic or justified, when “their side” avoids debates, it proves cowardice, corruption, incompetence, or fraud.
A lot of Trump supporters defended Trump skipping Republican primary debates and resisting additional debates with Harris, often arguing he was strategically avoiding giving legitimacy to her. But when Democrats skip or postpone debates, suddenly it becomes proof of cowardice or corruption.
That’s the tribal part I keep referring to. The standard changes depending on whose team is involved.
And terms like “commie,” “Castro Revolutionary,” or “husk” may energize Gulibles bellied up to the bar but they don’t really add much factual analysis. They mostly reinforce hostility toward political opponents as a whole rather than persuading anyone outside the tribe.
Seems to be a common theme with many government programs these days. I’m thinking that Democrats have become less of a political party and more of a money laundering operation.
I hope he’s at least getting paid for supporting Iran. It would be even more pathetic to spend virtually all day every day rooting against your country based on nothing but tribal politics.
"And can you only imagine where we'd be if we had elected Kamala?!?"
With Kamala, we'd be facing nuclear armageddon with Iran. Core inflation is at 2.8%. Energy prices will come back down. Most sane people realize that temporarily higher energy prices are a small price to pay for keeping Iran from threatening the world with nuclear attacks.
“ Energy prices will come back down. Most sane people realize that temporarily higher energy prices are a small price to pay for keeping Iran from threatening the world with nuclear attacks.”
Sounds like damage control for the inflation spike and Trump basically saying he didn’t give a flying rat’s ass how much consumers are paying, all while claiming prices will come back down. And again, repeating that Americans “understand that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon”.
Problem is, experts say that Iran was nowhere close to obtaining a nuclear weapon before Trump launched his war of choice. Most sane people also realize that Trump lies like most people breathe.

Lol. “Never argue with an idiot. They’ll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.”
“ The problem here is a short term physical scarcity of crude oil and therefore of distillates like gasoline.
Absent rationing, the price will adjust in the short term to choke off exactly enough demand so that each week every gas station sells all the gas it can get.
That means that cutting this tax will not in fact lower the cost of gasoline for the American driver. The price will stay the same or rise to reach the same level as it would have.”

@Dave: Best of luck.
…vote Dave on May 12. Omaha!
@Big Mike, take comfort that stupid comes to mind before misogynist when it comes to you.
Yes. Best of luck, Dave. If I were a Democrat I'd vote for you many times.
Good luck, Dave! Let us know how the day turns out.
What the tax cut will do is to divert those 18 cents per gallon from the Federal government to the oil companies. Since the taxpayers all have to pay the government’s bills in the end, this proposal amounts to a huge gift from US consumers and taxpayers to oil companies.
...
We truly live in the age of stupid
Proving his own point.
Is there some reason why gas prices are so much higher in California than Missouri? Has Missouri just decided to bestow a gift upon the oil companies? Are those poor Missouri taxpayers just forced to go along with the gift to the oil companies by not having to pay taxes, unlike those lucky Californians?
Yes California funnels the gas taxes into the Climate Mitigation Fund run by Gavin's buddies who then donate the money back to Democrats. Gas taxes in CA end up with the DNC. If they lowered the gas taxes then Democrats would run short.

Shooting near Harvard University leaves 2 with life-threatening injuries, suspect ID'd as Tyler Brown
“To Help Nebraska and Omaha Public Power bigly, vote Begley”

Gas taxes in CA end up with the DNC”
Seems to be a common theme with many government programs these days. I’m thinking that Democrats have become less of a political party and more of a money laundering operation.

That's bad news for Democrats.
I am pretty sure there are people in the rooms putting together 6-10 second clips on this admission from any US president during mid term time trump says " after asked does he care about Americans financial situations "“I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation… not even a little bit.” I only care about the Nukes(you know like the one we already had they ripped up) like the one in discussions now from his group only 20 year sunset, they don't tell you that part)This will replace the out of context OBAMA statement"YOU DIDNT BUILD THAT" It is not surprising from him ,majority of Americans know this is Its just he had no discipline to control blurting it out) Clean up on isle 6 coming from maganites now for sure.
