The problem here is a short term physical scarcity of crude oil and therefore of distillates like gasoline.
Absent rationing, the price will adjust in the short term to choke off exactly enough demand so that each week every gas station sells all the gas it can get.
That means that cutting this tax will not in fact lower the cost of gasoline for the American driver. The price will stay the same or rise to reach the same level as it would have.
What the tax cut will do is to divert those 18 cents per gallon from the Federal government to the oil companies. Since the taxpayers all have to pay the government’s bills in the end, this proposal amounts to a huge gift from US consumers and taxpayers to oil companies.
The proposal will do nothing in the short term to increase production of crude oil or of gasoline.
It is amazing that voters and lawmakers don’t understand this.
Obviously in the longer term people drill more wells, pump more oil and refine more oil. But the current high prices already provide an adequate incentive for that and those processes take 6 to 24 months before there is more supply for consumers. Voters and lawmakers often overlook incidence and elasticity basics here.

My understanding is the mass execu ... I meant to say, forced retirement of the VA Supreme Court is DOA. The leader of the VA Senate announced the last day for legislative actions is May 12 which means that the bill would have had to have been proposed, passed by both houses, signed, and then new justices nominated and confirmed within the span of about 48 hours. Not happening, which is why they went to the USSC Hail Mary.

Had the crew and housekeeping staff been aware of the danger they might have burned the sheets but the index case was initially believed to have died of heart disease. My water heater is set to 150°F. I trust that anyone who comes into my house knows how to use a faucet properly. I have two tempering valves- 1 for each bidet seat. Too cold and too hot there are bad for different reasons...

Incorrect, there is no supply restriction in the US. The supply restriction is in Asia and Europe, so price rises to discourage export of US oil overseas, there are not enough tankers available to make a big shift in export. And since producers don’t profit from gas taxes they are irrelevant to the decision to export and flow to the customer. If gas stations just stop paying the tax and don’t lower prices that can be a concern that should be addressed by gouging rules. So the implementation needs watching, but it is not a supply and demand issue.

Glenn Reynolds (Instapundit) has suggested that Trump is following Gen Winfield Scott’s Anaconda plan, of the mid 1800s. His plan did two important things for the Union in the Civil War. First, he cut the South into two pieces, by controlling the Mississippi River. That meant the two parts of the Confederacy couldn’t work together. And secondly, the South was prevented from trading, and esp with the British. This was devastating to an export based economy like the South’s.
The thing that Trump saw was that Iran had an economy based on selling their oil, and China has one that requires the import of natural resources, and esp here, oil and gas. Turns out that China had set it up that they traded top missiles and other arms with Iran for below market oil and gas. And Trump essentially shut that down almost completely. And with Iran attacking the ships of various foreign countries, in the strait of Hormuz, in neutral waters, the US Navy was justified in intercepting all trade into or out of Iran. That is devastating Iran and its ability to sell its oil and gas, and especially to China.

Today is primary Election Day in Nebraska and I’m running to be an Omaha Public Power District director.
Much to my surprise, I got the endorsement of a major state-level blogger who is very active on FB and has a huge following.
My main opponent has raised over $75k and has about a dozen endorsements as he is a former state senator.
Two advance to the general election. There are four candidates; the other two are both women. One is another former state senator and candidate for governor while the other is the incumbent.
Just to add to your point; The midterms are seem as a referendum on the President. The more highly regarded the president and the job he’s doing, the better his party does. So anything that can blur Trump’s bravery and grace under trying circumstances is worth doing ax far as the Democrat press is concerned.

Mike, it’s easy to acknowledge left-wing political violence in the 60s and 70s. It existed, it was wrong, and much of it was condemned by mainstream Democrats at the time.
But the idea that political violence in America “has always come from the left,” while right-wing violence, militias, racial terror, extremist attacks, Jan. 6, assaults on elected officials, and threats against judges or election workers get minimized or treated as isolated exceptions doesn’t square.
You’re not giving an historical analysis but rather a selective ownership of history. Simply put, tribal.
You’re also connecting millions of ordinary Democrats to every violent act committed by fringe leftists across 50 years while objecting when anyone associates ordinary conservatives with extremists on the right. That standard seems to work only one direction. Again, tribal.
And respectfully, if the goal is genuinely peace, it probably helps to stop describing half the country as enemies engaged in coordinated murderous intent. That mindset escalates fear and hostility regardless of who is doing it, which again, is exactly what the leaders of the tribe want you to do.

It’s the same hypocritical recurring pattern that shows up often in highly tribal political discourse; when “our side” avoids debates, it’s strategic or justified, when “their side” avoids debates, it proves cowardice, corruption, incompetence, or fraud.
A lot of Trump supporters defended Trump skipping Republican primary debates and resisting additional debates with Harris, often arguing he was strategically avoiding giving legitimacy to her. But when Democrats skip or postpone debates, suddenly it becomes proof of cowardice or corruption.
That’s the tribal part I keep referring to. The standard changes depending on whose team is involved.
And terms like “commie,” “Castro Revolutionary,” or “husk” may energize Gulibles bellied up to the bar but they don’t really add much factual analysis. They mostly reinforce hostility toward political opponents as a whole rather than persuading anyone outside the tribe.
