So Israel has terrorist proxies, like ISIS and the Kurds and al Qaeda, the ones that they used to destroy Syria, putting an al Qaeda terrorist in charge there. Well they also have proxies in Pakistan, which has been mediating a peace deal which Israel does. Not. Want. This proxy just carried out a train bombing killing and injuring up to one hundred people.

Defend them all you want, you can laughably call me an antisemite, but Israel is the obstacle to peace in the Middle East, and the slow return to economic normalcy for the world, which Israel does not care about.

Top Republican warns Trump against making a deal with Iran: 'Finish the job' ~ FOX News

Iran liked showing off their deep underground weapons bunkers. They were no secret. 15,000 targets were hit in Iran. Thousands of missiles in bunkers were not touched. A repetition of March's air campaign will still leave them untouched.

In January, Iran's regime needed mass murder of protesters to survive. The Strait was open and oil was cheap.

Trump's war has given Iran's regime a new lease on life and control of the Strait. Republican hardliners didn't have the character to tell Trump starting the war would end up like this. If these Republicans were the tough guys they pretend to be, they would have told Trump to disobey Bibi's orders.

Everybody knows why Cruz and Graham are opposed -- because Israel wants them to be opposed -- so don’t insult us all by pretending it’s some principled foreign policy stance.

What is the SAVE act? We've been fed the pablum that there are insufficient votes to pass it, due to Dem/Repub partisan allegiances, in spite of the very high, non-partisan support numbers among voters. Why? Why the reluctance to do the voter's will?

I've concluded that voters have finally realized something. They've seen the purchasing value of their dollar diminished by the high inflation that was engineered into existence by the previous administration, and how this same program was twisting the sacred duty of citizenship into a gift for illegal aliens, a cynical exchange of privilege for votes. They've seen how government, finally, is fundamentally untrustworthy. They would squander the authority of the voters and call it Progress.

The voters understand the purpose of the SAVE act. It's not just about election integrity, and who wins, and how. They're reacting to having the value and power of their vote liquidated, by a government they putatively vote for. And across party lines, they want to see the value of their votes preserved.

On the other side, the side of entrenched political leadership, those leaders see their power being diminished - and they're right. The power to bend election results, the power to obfuscate and argue, while busily trying to 'find' ballots. The power to corrupt what should be clear, traceable, and auditable outcomes, corrupt them with uncertainty and doubt. That's a hugely useful power, and they don't want to lose it, either side.

I don’t think that allying with Israel is going to be that much of a problem with the rich Gulf states. The Sunni Muslim Arabs have been mostly happily co-existing with Jews for 1400 or so years. The big problem, all along has been the Shi’a, esp across the Strait in Iran. They have been funding terrorism, and esp Shiite terrorism all around the region. And arming the terrorists, most recently with missiles and drones. Missiles used against their Sunni Muslim neighbors. And some of their terrorism has been aimed at their Sunni neighbors in the Gulf. And that terrorism, by their militants, was pushing the big Gulf Oil states away from working closely with the US (and Israel). Iranian attacks on their Sunni Arab neighbors has pushed them to take a side, and that seems to have meant doing what had to be done to end their internal Iranian funded problems. Besides, the last thing that Iran can afford right now is subsidizing and arming their internal proxies in the Gulf oil states.

my first comment:

I hope you know that slavery was a worldwide phenomenon. It was widely practiced in Africa, Asia, South America. People were captured in wars and enslaved. It was quite common, throughout human history. It was the norm.

Getting rid of slavery was a huge step forward in humanity's progress. The Declaration of Independence was a big part of that movement. Don't hate the USA. Forgive the sins of others and know that in everybody's past, we have ancestors that were horrible people -- killers, rapists, criminals, and so forth. It should not matter to us, as we all have free will.

His research on what he calls identity-protective cognition demonstrates that the more analytically capable a person is, the more polarized their political beliefs tend to be, not less. Kahan’s argument is that the problem is an excess of rationality rather than a deficit: sophisticated analytical capacity deployed entirely in service of protecting group identity rather than seeking truth. Smart people are better at building the justification. They are not, on this evidence, better at questioning the conclusion.

I was not a stupid man during the Obama years. I read widely. I engaged with the arguments. I had theological reasons for my political positions or at least believed I did. Kahan’s research suggests that this is precisely the profile of someone most at risk: analytical enough to construct a sophisticated defense, motivated enough by group identity to need one. The intelligence becomes the problem. You are better than most at building the cage and calling it a house.

I've often wondered why people who are so highly educated -- many liberals that I know -- have what we often refer to as TDS ("Trump Derangement Syndrome"). In my lifetime, I've seen it with every president -- with Reagan, with Bush, with Clinton, with Bush, with Obama, with Trump. Over and over. It's laughable when you notice it. Historically, once the president is out of office, the "mental illness" clears up. And the new president (if he's in the other party) becomes the new Nazi, and the old one is forgiven.

What was shocking to me is that when Trump was out of office in 2020, the TDS did not clear up. If anything, it multiplied. Liberals, highly educated people, were unable to forgive him. They were unable to win with grace. They tried to impeach a man who was no longer in office. They invaded his home to steal his papers. They arrested him and bragged about sending him to jail. They crowed about his mug shot. They prosecuted him for 88 felonies. They had four criminal cases running against him, simultaneously, in an election year. And all of this hatred backfired. In 2024, this man that they feared so much, was re-elected by the American people.

Saint Croix કહ્યું...

Haidt’s framework illuminates the specific shape of my misperception. Conservative moral psychology draws on five moral foundations: Care, Fairness, Loyalty, Authority, and Purity. Liberal moral psychology draws primarily on Care and Fairness. Someone formed in conservative evangelicalism, as I was, runs largely on a moral operating system that weights Loyalty, Authority, and Purity heavily.

Purity is the dangerous one. Jesus has many lessons on purity and fear of the dirt. Purity is what leads to racial thoughts and racism.

It's a mistake to think that this is a "conservative" phenomenon. It's a human phenomenon. The national socialists were obsessed with purity. Today we see a rise among anti-Semitism on the left, among the highly educated. We see very smart people start hating the Jews. See also "whiteness" studies and the belief that "Black" ought to be capitalized and "white" ought to be lower-case. The Ivy League belief that white males are to blame. A whole ideology is constructed, called "whiteness," and everything evil is tainted by belonging to that group.

We're all human beings. We are all children of God. Race is a human construct and a sloppy and unscientific one. We ought to stop dividing people into races on the census. It's scientific hogwash. Nobody can identify how many races there are. All you need to do to create a new "race" is for two people with different skin colors to mate and have a baby. Boom, new race.

Saint Croix કહ્યું...

On abortion, Trump was vocally pro-choice as recently as 1999, describing himself as “very pro-choice” on Meet the Press. He changed positions when he began exploring a presidential run, took five different positions in three days at one point during the 2016 primary campaign, and has spent most of his second term insisting abortion should be left to the states while privately blaming anti-abortion messaging for Republican electoral losses.6 He appointed three Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe, which is a genuine policy legacy. Whether that legacy reflects conviction or political transaction is a question his own words over three decades do not resolve.

I am very pro-life. I could not vote for Trump in 2016. The man used to support partial-birth abortion. And I could not vote for Hillary in 2016. She and her husband said that abortion ought to be "rare." But that was a lie, they were staunch pro-choice advocates.

The 2016 election for me was Darth Vader vs. Cruella De Ville. Caused a lot of stress. The entire Republican primary was stressful to me. I even signed the "Never Trump" pledge. Ultimately, I voted Libertarian in 2016. It was a wasted vote, of course. But my one vote is irrelevant to the outcome. It was for my own peace of mind.

I was happily surprised when Trump turned out to be an ordinary Republican. I was afraid I would be audited by the IRS, because my name was floating around on Marco Rubio's "Never Trump" pledge. "Why did I sign that damn thing? That was stupid." Nothing happened. The IRS didn't care about me.

And I was shocked when Donald Trump spoke to the Walk of LIfe. First president to do that. Even Reagan didn't do that. I was also shocked when he put three conservatives on the Supreme Court. I prayed, hard, that he would nominate Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. I fasted so my prayers might be powerful. I thought she might vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. And that's what happened.

God works through sinners, all the time.

US consumers face looming spending squeeze as Trump tax rebates fade ~ FT

"Generous tax refunds from President Donald Trump’s landmark budget legislation, averaging nearly $3,500 per return according to the IRS, have allowed Americans to continue splashing out."

"The closely watched University of Michigan Index of Consumer Sentiment has hit record lows, while the Conference Board’s consumer confidence index has also slumped. The Michigan survey said 57% of consumers believed high prices were eroding their personal finances, up from 50% last month.

John David Rainey, Walmart’s chief financial officer, acknowledged that while wealthier customers were “spending with confidence,” the low-income customer was “more budget conscious and perhaps navigating financial distress”.

St Croix @ 4:12, interesting take on Trump telling the Basket of Gulibles what they wanted to hear on abortion and that you actually believe the Federalist Society plutocrats planted in the Supremes actually gives a rats ass about women’s health.

I’m a pro-life Democrat and no, that isn’t an oxymoron. When you bypass the rhetoric and red meat nonsense fed to you by the Outrage Machine and look at actual legislation over the years, it tells a completely different reality of solving the problem..

The Adoption and Safe Families Act making it easier to adopt rather than abort was passed by Democrats. The Family Medical Leave Act requiring job protection while on maternity leave was passed by Democrats. The Born-Alive Infants Protection Act guarantying infants born at any stage of development full legal rights and extended legal protections, passed by Democrats. The 2008 Democratic platform under Obama was “reducing the need for abortion by reducing the need for women seeking abortions"..

It's worth reminding that the Republicans under Trump 45 voted unanimously against the Violence Against Women Act. They have diligently weakened the Affordable Care Act which has lowered abortion in every single state that implemented it. In Colorado, abortions dropped 40% over 5 years after the state implemented a free contraceptive program yet Republicans have adamantly targeted free or reduced pricing for contraceptives for women.

I suppose the "just make abortions illegal and problem solved" Republican approach would set well with the coat hanger industries and filling up their for-profit prisons with poor and uneducated women but it has come up short fixing the core problem.

I’m reading that abortions are actually up since the ruling.

I've heard that rhetorical strategy. You call yourself "pro-liife" and then switch the subject away from unborn babies. Those are the people being actively dehumanized by the state. You don't have anything nice to say about them.

You don't know what a person is, and you voted for Kamala Harris. You cried when Roe v. Wade was overruled. So I do not believe you when you claim to be "pro-life."

Eva Marie કહ્યું...

I read what amounts to the personal confession by writer Shawn Patrick Connelly. (Substack essay referenced by SC)
How similar to the forced mea culpas so frequently demanded by the commies of the Soviet empire. The astonishing element is that there was nothing forced about this. Connelly wasn’t facing financial ruin, imprisonment, the hobbling of his children’s careers. As far as I can guess he was facing the disapproval of people he valued. His only motivation was to get into their good graces and the only way to do that was to confess to his racism and at the same time smear other Christians with the same sin.
Now if this were a woman, that idiot who regularly disparages women in the comments would say this was a hallmark. Except it’s not a woman, it’s a guy. It’s a guy who values the approval of the left so much that he makes a public confession. I don’t say this solely for the pleasure of calling out an idiot as an idiot, but to point out how mesmerizing, how addictive the left is to both women and men. We on the right can’t comprehend it but we dismiss it at our own peril.

RJW કહ્યું...

Croix, I’m looking for an iota of logic in your response and obviously coming up short.

My argument was that historically, while the Outrage Machine has groomed the Gulibles otherwise, Democrats have consistently legislated to lower abortion while Republicans have legislated to exasperate the problem. Come to think about it, I can’t recall a single bill or policy to benefit the average working class in the last 50 years.

That you believe me or not is absolutely irrelevant to me as I understand from previous discussions that you are cocooned in a village I could never penetrate. My intentions were to give those possibly outside of the cult something to think about before obediently gulping the koolaid.

Eva Marie કહ્યું...

“single bill or policy to benefit the average working class in the last 50 years”
Closing the border.

Eva Marie કહ્યું...

Now this is what’s interesting - you thought and you thought, you scoured your brain and you couldn’t think of a single policy that Republicans enacted when the answer was right there staring at you, jumping up and down, waving it’s hands to get your attention. So the question becomes: How much kook-aid or kool-aid, as the case may be, have you been drinking?

Saint Croix કહ્યું...

RJW, do you think unborn babies are people who have a right to life, yes or no?

Saint Croix કહ્યું...

Democrats want to provide free abortions to anybody who wants one. Why are you lying about this?

Saint Croix કહ્યું...

Journalists routinely hide this violence, RJW, as you well know. But even journalists are not dumb enough to say that Democrats are the pro-lifers who want to reduce abortions. Jesse Jackson had to abandon his pro-life principles to suck up to all the Democrat voters. Remember?

Saint Croix કહ્યું...

Here is Kamala Harris' pro-abortion platform. Why are you lying about it? Why is it leftists such as yourself are always relying on deceit and fraud? You are a shameful advocate for your own party. Embarrassing.

Trump's Supreme Court appointees overturned Roe v Wade, eliminating a fundamental constitutional right and denying women across the nation the right to choose. The extreme act of overturning Roe , which had been the law of the land for nearly half a century, has already had devastating consequences nationwide.

Over the past two years, more than 20 states have imposed extreme and dangerous abortion bans – many of which include no exception even for rape or incest – that put the health and lives of women in jeopardy, force women to travel hundreds of miles for care, and threaten to criminalize doctors for providing the health care that their patients need and that they are trained to provide. Laws that limit access to contraception and to fertility treatments like IVF. Laws that were first adopted in the 1800s.

More than one in three women of reproductive age, and more than half of Black women and 40 percent of Latinas, now live under an abortion ban. Today, our daughters have fewer rights than their grandmothers.

President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats are fighting back to restore reproductive freedom for every woman in every state. President Biden signed three executive orders and a presidential memorandum to stand up for reproductive rights. The Administration is protecting access to abortion, including by creating a new path for pharmacies to dispense FDA-approved medication abortion and defending access in court. It is expanding reproductive health care for service members, veterans, and their family members. The Administration is defending access to emergency medical care, including clarifying that federal law on emergency care preempts state abortion bans, educating patients on their rights, making it easier for patients who have been denied emergency care to file a complaint, and ensuring hospitals meet their legal obligations to offer care. It is challenging threats from Republicans to prosecute people who help women travel to a different state for abortion care, and helping states expand access under Medicaid for women who travel from states with bans. We are safeguarding patients' and providers' privacy, including by strengthening HIPAA protections, cracking down on the illegal sharing of personal information, strengthening consumer data protections, and issuing guidance to protect student privacy in this area. And we are ensuring access to accurate information and legal resources, including by launching ReproductiveRights.gov and convening more than 200 lawyers and advocates to support abortion-related legal defense services.

The contrast between President Biden and Trump is stark. Trump handpicked Supreme Court justices he knew would overturn Roe, saying it would be overturned "automatically." He's said that he's "proudly the person responsible" for overturning Roe, and he continues to brag about it. Trump is responsible for the more than twenty state bans that are now in effect as a result. He has said women should be punished for getting an abortion, and that states should be able to punish doctors who provide them. If he returns to the White House, Trump will ban abortion nationwide. And his allies plan to ban medication abortion nationwide, without Congress or the courts, by enforcing a law from the 1800s, including prosecuting women and doctors for sending or receiving medication abortion in the mail.

Mail in your party card. And I think its time for a new alias, you've burned through this one already.
