I have always been a big fan of Tim Cook, and likewise, Steve Jobs, but if Steve was not taken from the Planet Earth so young, and ran the company instead of Tim, the company would have done well, but nowhere near as well as it has under Tim. For me it began with a phone call from Tim at the beginning of my First Term. He had a fairly large problem that only I, as President, could fix. Most people would have paid millions of dollars to a consultant, who I probably would not have known, but who would say that he knew me well. The fees would be paid but the job would not have gotten done. When I got the call I said, wow, it’s Tim Apple (Cook!) calling, how big is that? I was very impressed with myself to have the head of Apple calling to “kiss my ass.” Anyway, he explained his problem, a tough one it was, I felt he was right and got it taken care of, quickly and effectively. That was the beginning of a long and very nice relationship. During my five years as President, Tim would call me, but never too much, and I would help him where I could. Years latter, after 3 or 4 BIG HELPS, I started to say to people, anyone who would listen, that this guy is an amazing manager and leader. He makes these calls to me, I help him out (but not always, because he will, on occasion, be too aggressive in his ask!), and he gets the job done, QUICKLY, without a dime being given to those very expensive (millions of dollars!) consultants around town who sometimes get it done, and sometimes don’t. Anyway, Tim Cook had an AMAZING career, almost incomparable, and will go on and continue to do great work for Apple, and whatever else he chooses to work on. Quite simply, Tim Cook is an incredible guy!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Isn't Apple Maps the outfit that erased all of those Southern Lebanon towns from its map, the ones that Israel has been obliterating? Suddenly it makes sense.
From gored to kissed: Im sensing an ass theme this morning.
Some people said Eleanor was an ass.
The 'key' Apple innovations occurred during the Steve Jobs eras. Tim Cook has been a slow and steady bricklayer, upgrader, and buyer of Apple stock to sustain the illusion that Apple is "growth" rather than "value" company.
Apple "could" or "should" be paying massive dividends.
Cook's innovations included the Watch and AirPods. They are fine and groundbreaking in their niche ways. His self-inflicted massive failure was to remove the headphone jack from $1,000 iPhones -- pigheaded denial of living in a world that requires headphone jacks.
If somebody writes that stuff for him, he's a genius, and having a great time of it. Some these posts don't really sound like Trump, but more like a caricature by a pretty funny writer.
Headphone adapter for iPhone 17.
Tim tried to move all of his top technology to China. He spent billions on education programs to help the Chinese learn how to make advanced cell phone technology.
He thought the communists would treat him well.
He didn't mind that China is run by a murderous evil regime.
Actually I think Tim Cook preferred China BECAUSE it was run by a murderous evil regime that supplied him with cheap labor.
I think Cook would have happily done the same thing to Americans.
One kiss deserves another...
The ONE thing I thank the EU for: Forcing Apple to give the iPhone a USC-C connection.
Jobs was brilliant but pretty fucking weird. His widow hates Trump more than the cast of "The View". It's a wonder she hasn't been offered the reins at Vanity Fair.
She already runs the hill, vanity fair is redundant
So, Achilles, Trump likes to do favors for and lavishes compliments on chicom loving globalist exploiters of cheap labor. This is why Trump brings out my cynic genes.
Apple replaced a visionary with a bean counter. Tim Cook did a great job of squeezing as much shareholder value as he could out of Jobs' creations, but once the Jobs pipeline ran dry, Tim Cook's Apple had nothing left to offer the public.
Is trump perhaps talking about the reduced tax rate for repatriated cash?
Trump likes to do favors for and lavishes compliments on chicom loving globalist exploiters of cheap labor
WTF? No. It's right there in black and white. It's what we all know. Trump likes to do favors for people who kiss his ass. Sometimes it's "chicom loving globalist exploiters of cheap labor."
But, on other occasions it's Taiwanese con men stealing American homes.
Apple is totally lesuo unlike tsmc
I voted for that.
Can Trump get Apple to fix AirDrop? The latest software update really screwed it up. Now you have to give permission within a specific timeframe to use AirDrop even between two devices on your own platform.
Do the job you were elected to do, Don. This stuff is getting tiresome.
DD-not just any ass kissing! Ass kissing by extremely successful and well known business tycoons. (Is the term “business tycoon” still a thing?)
Bring industry back into the country
From Tim Apple to John Apple
Tim Cook has led Apple to incredible growth. Couldn’t think of a better successor, business wise, to Jobs. Given how well Apple’s hardware team has been delivering of late, it seems like a well deserved promotion.
For Apple, AI remains the most challenging aspect they must overcome to continue their progress, as their devices serve as platforms that enable the application of these AI models to perform tasks. Therefore, the question arises whether Apple devices will merely act as conduits or become indispensable key elements. If the former is the future, there will be no additional value derived from Apple devices, and there will be minimal effort from Apple to make the significant shift. In fact, Apple Intelligence at this point is only a writing tool with limited capabilities and raises questions about whether it can be considered AI, even in beta mode.
Meanwhile, the original innovation that Steve Jobs introduced was to bring seamless, intuitive, and simple computing by integrating hardware and software into devices. I would not be surprised if this approach is extended to include AI as the third pillar. Relying on external foundation models is the best strategic
I would not be surprised if this approach is extended to include AI as the third pillar. Relying on external foundation models is the best strategic choice for Apple’s long-term success, and this decision will need to be clarified by the new management team. The initial phase of operating system development and its potential to transform user interaction with computing devices have hinted at Steve Jobs’s vision to engineer and establish its own OS, a significant bet, which remains the backbone of the company.
Whether Siri will be replaced by Apple Intelligence or become the name of the conversational mode of Apple Intelligence could be the key. However, the voice assistant was not developed as an agent with AI’s probabilistic (without complete control) response capabilities. Of course, Apple needs to clarify the fundamental question: what Apple Intelligence is. It is still not defined.
This TE guy is a classic Rhetoric 101 bullshitter. I taught the course, kid! The Bsing hasn’t changed a bit.
Remember when being a "conservative" meant loving Milton Friedman and hating crony capitalism?
Good times.
Remember the CHIPs act pipe down
Crony Capitalism is a leftist democratic Chi com deal.
Remember - dedicated democratic leftists have no problem with heir corrupt party.
Tim Cook was smart enough to maintain good relationships with Trump and every POTUS. Stupid CEOs decided to put their politics ahead of their business (cf: Bezos) and lost billions for it.
Has there ever been an American politician, let alone a President, with the candor, transparency and humor of Donald J Trump?

When Cook took over from Steve Jobs in 2011, a lot of people wondered whether anyone could possibly fill that role. Jobs was such an outsized figure, and the shadow he left behind was enormous. But looking back now, Cook’s achievement was remarkable in a different way. He did not try to be Jobs. Instead, he took the powerful products and ideas Jobs had built, strengthened them, and turned Apple into a far more stable, balanced, and sustainable business. In particular, he helped build a services foundation that made Apple less dependent on the ups and downs of hardware cycles alone. That is a real and lasting accomplishment.
Total return since Aug 2011
Apple (AAPL) ~2300%
S&P 500 (SPX) ~515%
Trump made his money privately .
Democrats in power make their money thru secret tax payer theft schemes.

Why should Apply pay dividends? If they pay you dividends you will have to pay income tax on it (again), you will also have to find another investment for it. Can you do as well investing your money as Apple? (I don't know, you will have to answer to yourself)
Read Warren Buffet on why B-H has never paid a dividend nor split the stock. He was writing about it in the 70s when I was in grad school and I was talked out of buying the stock because it was too "expensive" at around $300 at the time. Currently at about $710,000 per share.
If you need the income from dividends, that is fine, just buy a stock that pays them. Different strokes for different folks.

IIRC, Cook actively used Apple's clout to resist what he felt were anti-gay laws in America. During the same time he was expanding Apple's footprint in the Middle East.
I guess that's OK unless Apple products are being tossed off of buildings.
In any case Trump clearly does like his ass kissed. One only has to view a Cabinet meeting to observe the "Yes, M' Lord spew". And, within limits it can influence governmental action. But let's not start believing all pols do the same. I just happen to think that, on the whole, Trump's influence is in a better direction for the USA than the left's.
Dang it.... do NOT do the same...
Ever since the Apple music store trashed my computer 20 years ago I have refused to have anything to do with them. I'll use tincans and string before I get an I-Phone.
It screwed up my hard drive so badly that I had to completely wipe it, reformat, reinstall Windows and all my programs and backup files.
Phooey on Apple.

Ms Jobs is going to have even more reason to hate Trump when Kash Patel gets done with his quarter billion dollar lawsuit.
John Henry
Yes they would put him on chop chop square in a luxury minite
@John henry --
I understand the argument for buybacks vs. dividends. The concern with buybacks is that the execs will boost stock prices to profit from their personal stock options (at the expense of outsiders). The concern with dividends is that they reduce stock value per a forced sale / tax event.
Having access to stock options changes executive management logic.
DD Driver,
Milton Friedman once, in the 80s, made the Wall Street Journal print a retraction after calling him a "conservative".
He always identified as a "liberal" and was pretty vehement about it. Of course, he meant liberal in the sense that we would call a classical liberal or libertarian today. He rejected even the classical.
He felt it was a good word (from Liber in Latin meaning a free man) that had been hijacked as Hayek said in 1941 (Road to Serfdom)
Friedman disagreed with much of the conservative agenda, as do I. I identify as a liberal (classical, libertarian, minarchist, whatever)

Remember when being a "conservative" meant loving Milton Friedman and hating crony capitalism?
Helping business doesn't mean crony capitalism. It could be removing regulations or trade restrictions which hinder the free market. It can be national security issues which otherwise would weaken the nation. It could be theft of real or intellectual property, for which the government has a key role.
Siri has gotten worse as far as I'm concerned. I mainly have an iPhone because I have a ton of music in iTunes/Apple Music. Those have been problematic in basic ways for years -- e.g., it would make duplicates of all the songs on some albums, meaning if I wanted to listen to it I'd have to go in and manually delete half of 'em, unless I really felt like listening to each track twice in a row.
That said. . . . .I was a reluctant WIndows user for years (DOS and then OS/2 for me), finally switched to a Mac about 20 years ago for all of my work stuff and it was fine, although I still have a virtual Windows machine running on it for some old programs I don't want to pay hundreds of $$$ a year to use a few times. Then I was handed a PC for my current job and thought, well, maybe they've fixed Windows in the last 20 years. . . . .
Nah. Still sucks.
Trump is “[a crass] vessel chosen by God to save us from the evil on the Left.” (Norman Podhoretz) He has not mellowed with age. Too bad. It detracts from recognition of his considerable accomplishments.
Yes, Milton Friedman was no "True Conservative". He was against Government regulation of Business, and against Tarrifs and any restriction on immigration. He was for Freedom of business to make money without any hinderance from the Government. And the individual to act without any restrictions regarding sex, abortion, drugs, etc.
IRC he also pushed "The flat tax".
Liberalism is a philosophy of divergence in degrees.

Every president likes their ass being kissed.
Trump is just honest enough to tell you.
Cook had a gay old time, but the recovery of industry and capital precedes Apple's implicit sanction of socialist ambition.
A lot of executives seem to be leaving at the top. They may not be as dumb as the people who make one-thousandth of their salaries love to claim. The capital loss coming in AAPL value will make a dividend-vs-buyback argument moot. DJT loves the company of "winners" but this one, which has already failed to make a new high on this rally, is losing its former status. A 50% haircut for these and other tech shares is highly likely this year and into next. It is already in process in some sectors. However poorly AAPL performs, many others will do even worse.
Reed hastings for one (what does he know)
Enigma
Buybacks have nothing to do with paying or not paying dividends. you can have either with or without the other. I don't think B-H or Amazon have ever done buybacks but neither of them pay dividends.
Not paying dividends is why Bezon only pays taxes on $82,000 of Amazon salary and nothing on the $100 billion or whatever of stock.
John Henry
Makes sense to choose a hardware guy, when every programmer that can wants to buy a Mac mini, for which there are not adequate substitutes. Apple may see its future tied to individuals running open source AI on local machines.
For what it is worth, which is in neighborhood of two cents, I am slowly becoming convinced that the future of AI applications is with hybrid models, running part locally, part queries to foundational models.
I can't understand keeping music in the cloud. I have a 37 GBmusic folder with that I keep synced between desk, laptop, tablet , phone and 4-5 multiTB USB backup hard drives.
With very few exceptions, I see no benefit to storing my stuff on other people's devices and I see a lot of potential downside..

@John henry --- Yes, capital gains, etc. Drifting from the thread topic.
Music on the cloud -- not much point if one subscribes to a streaming service.

That's why I ignore stuff like this.
In fact, I can't remember the last time I paid attention to what he said. Probably the GOP convention after the left tried to kill him. But even then I turned it off after a few minutes.
Braying is a residual symptom from his Democratic days.
