Writes Geoff Edgers, in "Very short concerts aren’t a scam. They’re brilliant. Lily Allen’s shows of under an hour have drawn some backlash. But many fans are content to go home early" (WaPo).
"'She’s offering something different — and I’m paying to see that.' It was a special show, reminding me more of a play than a pop concert. Allen delivered a performance as the scorned wife that was both heartbreaking (the contemplation of pills and drink) and defiant (one performance delivered in lingerie and heels). At one point, she’s wrapped in the 'revenge dress,' a length of green fabric printed with what’s said to be images of receipts she found documenting what her ex spent on other women. Even without a band, I found some of the songs coming alive in a way they didn’t on the record...."
From the comments over there: "150-250 bucks with no supporting musicians to pay? Just vain costume changes? 60 minutes? That's hubris. Nothing more."

Short Attention Span Theatre
Lily who?
…she’s the one making more money off of videos of her feet on OnlyFans than she is from her music on Spotify. So I’ve been told…
Lily Allen is an English pop singer mostly known to me from her 2006 album "Alright, Still." It sold 2.5M copies, and has a lot of relationship talk and dark humor. She came across as a cruel and sarcastic girlfriend from hell, but also witty. This would surely play well among an aging "believe all women" audience and the pussy hat brigade.
Short attention span theater plus fans who'd fall asleep after 10:00. If you paid me $250 I'd still not attend her show.

…she’s married to Hopper. An Vegas Elvis did it…
Discount tix for short shows? Sounds fair. Especially compared to the music industry in general, at least as reported by Corporate Media, which is an even more vicious industry built on retailing fiction disguised as news.
Is this somehow related to the rise of Tiktok ?
An evening out needs to last longer than the time it takes to get there and get home, but if you go to dinner before and drinks after, this might work.

…perfect for third dates…
I read enough of the article to learn that there are people in this world who love to see a woman in a “revenge dress” looking fierce, fabulous, and unbothered in public after being mistreated by a man.
I'm not so sure that was worth the price of admission.
My daughter took me to this short concert in Brookline the other night. It was perfect. Short and sweet. The best covers were great gig in the sky and brain damage
The Candlelight: A Tribute to Pink Floyd concert in Brookline, MA, features a live string quartet performing iconic rock hits in a candlelight setting at Temple Ohabei Shalom (1187 Beacon St). Scheduled for April 16, 2026, the 60-minute concert by the Listeso String Quartet includes classics like "Comfortably Numb," "Wish You Were Here," and "Money".
"Always leave them wanting more" is a strategy of creating desire and building intrigue by intentionally ending interactions, performances, or content at a high point rather than waiting for them to get stale. This tactic—often attributed to showman P.T. Barnum—relies on pacing, leaving early, and holding back to ensure people remember the experience positively and look forward to the next, fostering lasting impact rather than overstaying a welcome.
Well then. I guess Neil Young was way ahead of his time when he walked off the stage in a 1973 concert in Detroit after about 35 minutes because he was pissed at the audience.
We had driven down from East Lansing and no- we didn't run home to watch SNL. It wasn't around yet. But even in its non-existent state it was eminently more watchable than it is today. I can't imagine anyone running home to see some hack do yet another Trump impersonation.
The beauty of the free market is that not everyone has to go to this show. The people who want to go can go, and the rest can not go. Apparently, there are a small number of people who want to go -- they should go, and apparently, most people do not want to go -- they should not go. Win-win.
The Sex Pistols were ahead of their time in so many ways. "You ever get the feeling you you've been ripped off?" said John Lydon before walking off the stage without performing a single song.

No honey that's show business. I like the concept though, but $100 for a one-hour show is more like it. Maybe off-Broadway.
Sometimes a nice dinner & show is improved by a better class of dinner and a shorter show.
When the Beatles played live the shows typically consisted of 10 or 11 song sets and lasted barely a half hour.
I would not pay $1 for a singer who does not have a live music accompaniment. Without it the performance is nothing more than karaoke.
Lily being rather personable on the UK panel show, "Would I Lie to You?":

I’m still trying to figure out what‘s “defiant” about performing in your underwear.
I'm not paying for a ticket to see any of this over-priced noisy shit show - even my favorite bands.
The whole thing is way past my bed time. Now get off my lawn.
I support performers trying new show formats as long as the customers know the deal.
I am long passed the point where I want to go to a rock concert, sit through an opening band, have the good band start at 11 pm, and the show ends around 1 am.
There are a bunch of big-name groups who are still performing after several decades. Most fans grew up in the 70's or 80's, are retired, and can afford the tickets.
Start the show at 2 pm, with no opening band, play the fan favorites for an hour and a half, and everybody gets home in time for the early bird special.
Google gave me a list of some bands that are still out there.
1. AC/DC
2. Chicago
3. The Eagles
4. Alice Cooper
5. Styx
6. Bon Jovi
7. Def Leppard
8. Judas Priest
9. ZZ Top
10. Mötley Crüe
The Beatles’ shows were famously just 30 minutes.
Like others, I had to inquire to figure out who this was.
She likes to wear see-through clothing.
She made an album called "Sheezus."
Anybody who would rush home to catch SNL's "cold open" deserves to pay through the nose for pop concerts, and if the audience at pop concerts is worried about catching SNL's kickoff Trump impersonation it's a sign that pop music is going downhill even faster than Lorne Michael's brainchild.
Lily Allen is a stupid slut who hates Trump.
Alright, still ... she is cute and funny.
I admit I often feel blessed and grateful at the number of concerts and plays I went to when young. I saw great performers at affordable prices. Tickets were generally well under $100 in today’s dollars. Springsteen played for four hours in 1984 for about $50 - adjusted for inflation. I looked up the price of a Broadway show I saw in 1978 - huge hit. A matinee ticket in today’s dollars was about $70.00. I saw a lot when in college and didn’t have a lot of $$$ (nor, admittedly, many real expenses). I went to many concerts/shows after college when I made okay money but certainly not a lot. I don’t think that’s possible any more for the average person.
Lily Allen’s master stroke — making gossip her weapon.
In 2009 I was at a Lily Allen gig in Nottingham with my wife in seats to the side of the stage. We got there a bit early but went to our seats and I got chatting to a young guy next to me who seemed to know his music and agreed with me about how good the latest Lily Allen album was. We had a good music related discussion.
Just before the show started the young guy got up and said "I have to go" so I said "why is that?" He said "I am Professor Green and I am doing the show with Lily" and off he went.
I looked at my ticket and it said 'Lily Allen with Professor Green'. Though I didn't know it — he was and is a rapper who has indeed had a lot of success in the music business. He seemed not to mind that I was probably the only person at the gig who did not know who he was.
Watch Lily Allen and SNL? On the same night? Well, maybe, if I couldn't get a reservation at the local fried skunk restaurant...
Her short show would be better than the long form, but not going is best.
Perhaps it is for guys who want to take their dates to something woke for cred but want it to be fast, to quickly get to “business time.”
As a different Allen said, "the food is terrible and the portions are so small!"
Imagine "rushing home" to watch some hackneyed braindead TDS on hagged-out Party-whore SNL. A libtard Saturday night must-see, the 600th anti-Trump skit about how dumb and stupid Trump is and how cool and pissah Democrat Party members are. Hurry, you don't want to miss it!!!!!
"He seemed not to mind that I was probably the only person at the gig who did not know who he was."
Is there ever a time when you're not fucking clueless?
If you have some sort of curfew, then why not go to a matinee? It's hard to believe that people who can't sit still for a full-length feature, and on their phones the whole time, have to rush home to do what? ---Spend the remainder of the evening on their phone..
Sometimes it's enough already, and you just want to get some sleep.
Coincidentally tonight's SNL was a repeat from last year with her as the musical guest. I couldn't take 5 minutes of that act.
