“In a strictly legal sense, there's no evidence I'm aware of tying California Gov. Gavin Newsom to his state's multi-multi-billion-dollar fraud problem. But if you'll let me walk you through today's shocking numbers, maybe you'll agree that some sort of investigation is warranted.

Let's start with Medi-Cal, California's version of Medicaid — the state health insurance program for low-income residents, because the spending is both massive and chock-full of fraud.

When Newsom was sworn in for his first term in 2019, Sacramento spent an eye-watering $93.5 billion on Medi-Cal. Seven years later, that figure has more than doubled to $196.7 billion. But let's be fair and account for inflation, since we got such a whopping dose of it during the Biden Cabal's reign.

Even with Bidenflation, that's still a 62% increase in just seven years — seven years in which California's population actually shrank by about half a million people, or about 1.3 percent.

So after inflation and a shrinking population, Medi-Cal spending jumped by about two-thirds per resident, to just over $5,000 for every man, woman, and child in California.

But Medi-Cal is just for needy people — technically speaking, and stick a pin in that thought — and roughly 14 million people qualify for Medi-Cal coverage. So that's $14,000 in benefits each year for everybody enrolled, and my research indicates that most everybody who is eligible is actually enrolled. Because with that kind of largess, why wouldn't they be?

I'll pause here a moment so you can ponder the fact that nearly 40% of California residents are considered "needy" enough to qualify for Medi-Cal.

A Medi-Cal benefit worth about $8,580 or so in 2019 (in today's dollars) is now worth $14,000.

Poor Californians must have gotten super-healthy since 2019, right?

Well...”

I doubt that this has escaped Trump's attention.

There were expected to be peace talks in Pakistan, and the Israelis attempted to assassinate the Iranian representative. I don't think that Trump is in charge, as this has been a repeated thing for pretty much his whole presidency. Proposing negotiations, then killing the negotiators.

But maybe he is. Maybe that's just how he works. After all, it would be stupid not to take Iran's oil, just as it would have been stupid for Hitler not to invade Poland.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Thursday asked the Army’s top general to step down from his role and immediately retire, extending the Trump administration’s purge of top military officials and creating a key Pentagon vacancy amid the largest U.S. conflict in the Middle East in two decades. — Politico

Gee, right before a ground invasion, you don't suppose he objected to it? Maybe he called out that Hegseth has basically withdrawn the US from the Geneva Conventions.

Even the Nazis honored them when they could, but that didn't keep us from hanging Germans who violated them. The Japanese completely ignored them, hence that story in the movie Jaws about the Indianapolis being sunk in shark invested waters, and the crew left to be eaten one by one. You know who else sank a ship in shark infested waters and refused help to the survivors that the Geneva Conventions demand? I am sure you do.

If The Bulwark is saying the same things that I am saying, well, even a blind squirrel finds a nut, from time to time.

You guys all ignore that I have defended Trump unstintingly since the 2016 campaign, until he did this stupid thing and went back on his promise about endless wars, and forced us into a lose lose war in the Middle East which no other president was reckless enough to embark on, dragged into it by Israel.

And yet because I cannot log into the State's official e-filing system without saluting The Resistance, I now cannot represent my clients, file lawsuits, access cases, file documents in existing cases, etc.
If I click "Decline," it kicks me out of the system. I must click "Accept" to access the system and continue representing my civil clients -- again, in cases that have absolutely nothing to do with immigration law or policy.
I've read SB 25-276 (the law referred to below). It does not regulate me as a private attorney or any of the clients I represent in civil matters. This is outrageous draconian overreach.

A huge improvement over House of the Dragons.......House of the Dragons had some moments, but there wasn't anybody to root for, and the villains were predictable and rather bland compared to the original GOT.....Far less nudity and perversion in both these series than the original GOT. One guy had a foot fetish. A foot fetish is kind of a PG rated perversion.....Lots of gore though. A fair number of decapitacions, but no arterial blood spurts. On the plus side, they showed some wounds with suppurating pus. I don't think that's been done before......The original GOT produced a number of break out stars. I don't think that will happen with these series. The acting is okay, but it sort of blends in wiyj the AI backgrounds. It is just slightly, imperceptibly inauthentic.

An effective strategy must remain unclear to the enemy (the IRGC and the mullahs) and to anyone who would reveal it to the enemy (way too many Americans). Anyone who doesn't understand this should keep his mouth shut about Iran, so everyone who does understand won't realize he's such an utter fool that his opinions on all other subjects can also be ignored or mocked.

Below is the Gemini summary of the Marco Rubio strategerry. The interesting thing is the last last point he makes about the reopening of the strait of Hormuz is something that President Trump took off the list. Apparently that's everyone else's responsibility.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has characterized the Trump administration's strategy for the war in Iran—which began on February 28, 2026—as a targeted military operation aimed at neutralizing specific capabilities rather than a full-scale ground invasion. On March 31, 2026, Rubio stated that the U.S. is near the "finish line" and expects to achieve its mission in "weeks, not months".
Reuters

According to Rubio, the administration’s core strategic objectives include:
Neutralizing Air and Naval Power: Systematically destroying Iran’s air force and navy to eliminate threats to global shipping and ensure regional air superiority.
Dismantling Missile and Drone Infrastructure: Destroying the factories and launch sites used to produce and deploy missiles and drones, which Rubio describes as the key to regional stability.
Preventing Nuclear Weaponization: Drastically reducing missile launchers to prevent Iran from using them as a shield to develop nuclear weapons.
Avoiding Ground Combat: Rubio has repeatedly insisted that these goals can be met "without any ground troops," utilizing air and sea-based strikes instead.
Reopening the Strait of Hormuz: Ensuring the critical waterway is reopened to international traffic, either through an agreement or by force via a global coalition.
State Department

+5
While pursuing these military aims, Rubio has noted that the administration prefers diplomacy and is currently engaged in peace talks through intermediaries. He has also indicated that after the conflict, the U.S. may reexamine its relations with NATO allies who did not support the operation.

“ Avoiding Ground Combat: Rubio has repeatedly insisted that these goals can be met "without any ground troops," utilizing air and sea-based strikes instead.”

“Reopening the Strait of Hormuz: Ensuring the critical waterway is reopened to international traffic, either through an agreement or by force via a global coalition.”

Those two points may be irreconcilable. Hence an MEU and the 82nd Airborne Division (maybe 5k) in theater.

The only real weapon that Iran has left, is their threat to close the Strait by sinking tankers that don’t agree to its terms, which include, apparently, pricing oil in Chinese Yuan. Why Chinese Yuan? My guess is that is because Iran owes China for a lot of (since destroyed) arms shipments.

The only realistic threat that Iran can probably impose on shipping through the Strait is the use of mines. They don’t have the capacity anymore to lay many more mines. They no longer have either a navy nor an Air Force. The little boats they were using to lay mines are almost all gone now, and trying to do it by air is suicidal.

Their mines can be categorized as lying near the surface or lying deeper down. Those lying near the surface are much more plentiful, but are typically much smaller, and thus less powerful. They can damage tankers, but probably not reliably sink them They also have the problem that they essentially age out. The deeper mines are much more likely to sink tankers. But they apparently don’t have that many of them.

Closing the Strait Is a doomsday weapon. But one that is aging. Iran seems to have used it to bully at least GB and Spain into thwarting the US war plans a bit. That’s playing with fire though, since a US withdrawal from NATO would effectively kill it. Most of the other NATO members heavily depend on the US military to protect them. But also the Straight of Hormuz for their oil and gas. Making this a dilemma, is that the US is the only country that can open the Strait and keep it open, but are also one of the few countries in the world that doesn’t need the Straight open, in order to fill its oil and gas needs.

Yesterday the public learned that cracks and weaknesses in the pipe were identified as far back as 2018, however the area where the pipe needed to be repaired ran under land managed by the US National Park Service, which insisted on an environmental review. More than seven years later that review was still not completed when the pipe broke. So environmental “paralysis by analysis” resulted in a major environmental catastrophe. If it wasn’t for that pesky Eighth Amendment we could perhaps force the people involved in that environmental review to eat nothing but fish caught in the Poiomac for the rest of their lives.
