Sunrise — 6:00, 6:38.

IMG_6202

IMG_6207

That's the sunrise.

Tonight is the full moon — the blood moon. Meade was out just after nightfall, getting moon video, with the hooting of barred owls:

Write about whatever you want in the comments.

UPDATE, 6:09 a.m.: That wasn't the blood moon back when Meade made that video. The blood moon was a moon eclipse that happened, I'm told, over the past hour. We were up and ready to catch it, but the cloud cover was 100%. So, as usual, it all depends on the clouds. The celestial orbs do their thing, and it's powerful, but the mere clouds decide what will filter through to us Earthlings. It's raining too, just in this one hour, the sunrise hour. Such is our fate, in the clouds.

The “blood moon” is not just a full moon, it’s a lunar eclipse. It will be total just before sunrise in Madison, so you should have a good view if the sky is clear. Bit late for me to stay up, though.

With all that knowledge about Tehran, we hit an elementary school for girls in the first minutes of the surprise attack, killing 100+ little girls, and it was a US made missile, not an air defense missile, CNN investigated, and now if you are out rioting, trying to bring down the govt, well you are like the guy who killed John Wick's puppy. Good chance you meet with some violence.

This whole thing was idiotic, and Rubio has admitted that Israel "forced" Trump into doing it.

I just hope that when Trump is impeached and removed, that it's for this stuff, and not for some Kafkaesque, Soviet style invention by the likes of Adam Schiff.

Jaq చెప్పారు...

Oh yeah, and if you don't think that Tehran doesn't know where everybody is in the ME, like which hotels US soldiers have been evacuated to, etc, and China is giving them real-time ISR, why? Because if we topple Iran's government and put in our own, first order of business will be to strangle China's oil.

I guess when an empire rots away, an event like this is inevitable.

I believe Marco Rubio:

"'There absolutely was an imminent threat,' Rubio stated. 'And the imminent threat was that we knew that if Iran was attacked, (Israel was going it alone, if they felt they had to) and we believed they would be attacked, (by Israel) that they would immediately come after us, and we were not going to sit there and absorb a blow before we responded.'

Rubio said the Department of War determined that a defensive posture following an Israeli attack would only open the US to more casualties. Five American soldiers have died so far in combat.
(last I heard the number of US casualties was up to 6)

'We went proactively in a defensive way to prevent them from inflicting higher damage,' he said.

'Had we not done so, there would have been hearings on Capitol Hill about how we knew that this was going to happen, and we didn't act preemptively to prevent more casualties and more loss of life,' Rubio explained.

The revelation outraged both Democrats and Republicans.

The fact that Iran has gone 'scorch earth', proves the Pentagon judgement was correct.

If the Iranian government shot all those protestors, its own people, how much consideration do you think it would have had for the rest of us, once it had missiles and atomic weapons? What had it planned for us? It's strange that the people who had us masking up and hiding in our houses can't see a real danger when it threatens. But so it is, in our towns in our time.

Completely wrong. You need to go learn about how the missile defense systems work. It is the high rate of fire radar guided turrets that take out big slow relatively low flying missiles.

Maybe Trump pulls this out, and becomes the God Emperor, but he's already asking for a cease fire, and the Iranians are saying that they have had enough of cease fires which are just for catching their breath before the next regime change try.

Trump always offers cease fires. He offers peace during every confrontation.

It is the clarity that he always offers what it will take to achieve peace that makes what he is doing here so effective.

Suddenly NATO isn't looking very organizational any more. Maybe this will pause its eastward march.

What concerns me about this war is the lack of media coverage on what is happening on the ground in the arab / persian / islamic countries. We see sporadic reports about storming embassies in Pakistan and so on. But not much about the protesting and counter-protesting. It would be good to see more coverage of this and other sentiments. It can't be all 'grateful for the US' and 'now we love the Israelis', and
European leaders bailing out'.

When it comes to striking Iran, Donald Trump has been consistent for 47 years. Look at this clip from October 1980 when he called for military intervention to free American hostages taken during the Iranian Revolution. Also FYI: during his 2016,2020 and 2024 presidential campaigns, he consistently said multiple times that Iran "will never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon." Below is the 1980 transcript:

Donald Trump in 1980: "When you get the respect of other countries then the other countries tend to do a little bit as you do and you can create the right attitudes. The Iranian situation is a case in point. That they hold our hostages is just absolutely and totally ridiculous. That this country sits back and allows a country such as Iran to hold our hostages to my way of thinking is a horror and i don't think they'd do it with other countries. I honestly don't think they'd do it with other countries."

Rona Barrett: "Obviously you're advocating that we should have gone in there with troops et cetera and brought our boys out."

Donald Trump: "I absolutely feel that yes. I don't think there's any question in it, there's no question in my mind.I think right now we'd be an oil-rich nation and I believe that we should have done it and I'm very disappointed that we didn't do it and i don't think anybody would have held us in abeyance. I don't think anybody would have been angry with us and we had every right to do it at the time. I think we've lost the opportunity."

Anybody claiming the initial results of attacking Iran are a ‘victory’ has no concept of the chaos and accompanying opportunities for irregular warfare these actions will bring.

Conflict has been ripping the region apart for decades. It is going to continue.

And as for the MAGA neocons. They are an exemplar of what happens when extremists are given even one sniff of power and influence.

Breezy చెప్పారు...

Witkoff stated that the Iranians negotiators said they had over 450 kg of uranium that will be enriched enough for 11 nukes within 3 weeks. That was at the start of recent talks with Iran. If we have a no Iran nukes policy, which we do, there was no choice but to attack to stop it immediately. Of course Bibi would drive that attack, as Israel is their primary target, but the US is second, with lots of bases around the ME. We have to confront reality, not wish it was not reality and clutch our pearls about it.

Kakistocracy చెప్పారు...

According to a NYTimes article on the lead up to the war, Tucker Carlson met with Trump three times in the last month in the Oval Office to convince him against military action against Iran.

The article also detailed that Netanyahu was pushing for military action to topple the regime in Iran and there wasn’t anybody in the administration who spoke out in opposition. JD Vance was reportedly leaning against military action, but offered if they did it, better to go big and quick rather than a smaller strike to get the the Iranians to move in negotiations.

At the same time, Trump was disappointed with how negotiations with Iran were going, and apparently Iran was proving intransigent in its right to enrich uranium. Steve Witkoff claimed that they were bragging about already having enough enriched uranium at 60% enrichment for 11 nuclear bombs during negotiations.

Clearly Trump was leaning toward military action by moving the aircraft carrier group Ford to the region, but Netanyahu was clearly pushing for military action while the Iranians were doing nothing to make Trump think negotiations would be successful.

Dan Caine, who provided several military options for Trump, made it clear that any option would be more complex and lead to more casualties than Venezuela. The CIA gave three potential outcomes of a more hard line cleric taking over, a remote chance of a popular uprising, and more pragmatic IRGC elements taking power that could be induced to a deal.

Breezy చెప్పారు...

“Conflict has been ripping the region apart for decades. It is going to continue.“

LOL. Iran is the primary instigator of the perpetual conflict. And Islam ideology is why.

Humperdink చెప్పారు...

Kaka asserted: “Anybody claiming the initial results of attacking Iran are a ‘victory’ has no concept of the chaos and accompanying opportunities for irregular warfare these actions will bring.”

Oh puleeeze, who’s saying that?

Breezy చెప్పారు...

People were and are rightfully anxious about attacking Iran given the last 25 years of US experience in managing Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. No one wants to repeat that. However, Trump is not using that playbook. He’s directed that the nuclear and ballistic systems to be destroyed. When that’s done, we leave. It’s apparent that Israel’s additional goal is regime change. We’ll have to what happens.
