Those staged congressional hearings where reps and senators yell at people and denounce them, while also refusing to allow them to answer their non-questions, are putrid. Unbearable. I don’t know how the perps can stand their own behavior. All to produce an out-of-context video clip to outrage the crazies on X.
Its funny, I watched the SNL cold open from Bondi's Senate appearance from a couple months ago .... Amy Poehler doing Bondi.
Its amazing how well it fit for this week's hearing as well.
Yes its very bad theatre leonard pinth garnell
The western europeans have not learned any lessons in the last year
Marco's is the only story with enough substance to even comment on. The others lack real information, or are performative, or speculative. But, c'mon Althouse, it's all about rageclicks these days.
If you can't handle Rubio's wonderful speech you might want to look at the small peek into the real Hillary we saw when she was challenged by the Czech if it hasn't shown up in your usual sources..
Marco's speech was very much worth viewing. Even if you don't post anything about it. A very important speech given to our European friends. Even those who aren't our friends.
Marco has the tools to be a great President. We'll see if enough people are paying attention to what he's done around the world in the past year.
Don't know what 5 actually refers. However, I saw lots of tidbits from some forum in Europe (Munich?) that attracted everyone from Obama to Rubio to Newsome. Some tidbits from Obama and also from some speech Hillary gave elsewhere sounds like they support stopping all illegal immigration.
This was taken by many on the Right as a tack towards a moderate viewpoint ahead of the primaries and mid-term elections. In other words, just words (like 2) from politicians that have no meaning without action. Obama and Hillary, on behalf of her husband, claimed their Administrations deported more people. By "deported", they mean stopped at the border and told to go home, which isn't deportation so much as denied entry. Which I take as "we stopped as much as we could (or wanted to) and did nothing about those we didn't".
The only thing bloggable is the change in political tone, but as it is meaningless... yeah nothing to blog...
Marco in Munich was pretty solid. Especially when put in juxtaposition with AOC, Gavin Newsom, and/or Gretchen Whitmer in Munich. But its your Blog, so if you find it unbloggable its probably best to blog the stuff that grabs you.
I agree with your lack of interest in the other 4 items though.
For me 1 (Guthrie) is like the missing singapore airplane all those years ago, constant yammering with no new info; 2 (Bondi) is all theatre on both sides of the aisle; 3 (Epstein) is [see comment to item 1]; and 5 (Obama) is "go away already".
If you're still gonna blog about Obama, focus on his perpetual divisiveness and his projection (always claiming republicans are doing what he (and the democrats are actually doing). John Harwood tweeted something (again) about how we're all racist because we don't fellate Obama at every turn (and I didn't see a single comment agreeing with him). Then again, its Harwood. 'Nuff said.
Frankly, I'd rather they both just go away.
"can't handle Rubio's wonderful speech"
What does "handle" mean here? I said I'm not finding it bloggable. If I blogged it, it would be something like he's vaunting Western Civilization and Christianity and how that somehow is meshed with the project of "reindustrialization." I picture the Europeans thinking about dragging their heels and hunkering down until 2029.
Yeah, well you just blogged them. Quantum entanglement Heisenberg's uncertainty principal, and schroedingers cat all rolled into one
She clearly "microblogged" them Howard.
Leftists get their news and sheep opinions for Soviet SNL(D).
sad.
Sad but Nancy Guthrie is most likely d-e-a-d.
The gallery of Epstein Victims /as props - all blame Bondi for Epstein.
This is the level of dishonesty from the corrupt liar left..
You can blog about Robert Duvall I suppose.
The only interesting tidbit I extracted from Rubio's Munich appearance was his correct tying of our American cowboy culture to the Spanish vaqueros culture and (thanks to Ace of Spades) I learned that the Spanish word for cowboy is how we got "buckeroo" as a synonym here. The particular etymology of vaquero to buckeroo.
Perhaps related to the apocryphal story of how Tonto came to call the Lone Ranger "kemo sabe." And perhaps not blogworthy either.
Nancie Guthrie topic is very much bloggable. One hundred comments - praying for her safe return - might help to move the needle in the right direction.
Shouting Thomas.
Indeed!
bonus: Thomas Massie(R) revealed he is just another hack democrat.
I watched Rubio's speech last night and it's worthy of discussion IMHO.
"...I picture the Europeans thinking about dragging their heels and hunkering down until 2029. ..."
Easy to hunker, when you don't have any electricity.
"Handle" means "not finding it bloggable," as you said.
I might be able to blog if I could master complete sentences. What I was thinking was that the "particular etymology of vaquero to buckeroo" would be interesting. But apparently not so interesting that I could finish the sentence at first try.
Right Howard, to blog them as unbloggable is to blog them. I wasn't aware of the Obama alien thing. I'm assuming it's regarding some claim that they exist, and the plan is make him look silly. In fairness to Barack there was a brief time where 'aliens must exist' was supposedly the thinking man's answer, a play on the percentages. Hard thinkers have since rebuked the claim as the rarity of conditions and the challenge of the answer to 'what is life?' question don't make for inevitability, even at numbers necessitating scientific notation...
I’d add Canadian Curling Cheating to your list.
I picture the Europeans thinking about dragging their heels and hunkering down until 2029
Thinking about it !?!
“Nancy Guthrie, still missing.”
As far as I’m aware, that’s the only interesting thing about her.
If nothing else, Rubio's velvet hammer style and delivery is worthy of discussion alone. He continues to impress.
You have my sincere thanks for not blogging about those subjects.

Listening to the entirety of Rubio’s and Merz’s speech, there was broad agreement on Europe doing more to provide for its own defense and to take action to spur growth and competitiveness. Merz mentioned containing the explosion of bureaucracy, etc.
The points of disagreement were on migration, climate, and free trade, the effectiveness of multilateral institutions like the UN, with some degree of unspoken disagreement on the demise of white Christian civilization.
On these points of disagreement, there is broader agreement between European and American societies at large. Tariffs on allies are not popular in the U.S. and the majority of Americans support measures to combat climate change. Indeed, the U.S. has reduced CO2 emissions as much or more than Europe over the last 15 years despite on-again, off-again participation in the Paris climate treaty and Trump’s hostility to clean energy, etc. Most US utilities have net zero goals by 2035 and continue to implement clean energy solutions independent of government policy.
On free trade, Europe will eventually be forced to take action against Chinese mercantilism, but has a longer road to eliminate dependence on Chinese rare earths. But with a $400 billion annual trade deficit with China and no real opportunity to sell more to China, tariffs are a necessity to protect European businesses from Chinese state-run, state-subsidized mercantilism. It’s not just the U.S. that is raising tariffs on China, many other countries are as well.
On migration, strong majorities of Europeans agree that migration has been mismanaged and migration policy should be reformed and be more restrictive. Indeed, Merz in another speech said Syrian immigrants in Germany should return to Syria now that the civil war is over. Almost every European country has enacted more restrictive immigration policies in recent years.
Getting back to trade, non-tariff barriers--which Europe has a lot more than the U.S.-- will likely be a topic of negotiation in the coming months/years.
But overall, there is broad agreement across the board when considering majority views on both continents. Europeans will continue to have little trust in a Trump-led US, and the Greenland blow-up was viewed as a much more serious issue in Europe than the US, where most blew it off as another of Trump’s bizarre positions that will never happen because there is near zero support. But it should also be noted that Trump is hovering around all-time low approval ratings and his signature policies from foreign policy to immigration crackdowns to tariffs/economic policy are all under-water in public polling. Midterm elections in November will bring a strong backlash and a Democratic Congress.
On multilateral institutions, there is agreement that they have become less and less effective in their missions over the years, although there is more support in Europe for them in their current form. The reason for their ineffectiveness is also the reason meaningful reform will be difficult--there is little agreement on solutions to the major problems the world is facing.
But at the end of the day, the ‘rupture’ in the western alliance can and will be repaired because it is in the western interest to do so.
Why not “Marco in Munich”? There’s a lot to unwrap there.
Pam Bondi’s performance was a satire of itself, an SNL skit of over acting, buffoonery and crass disrespect, diminishing everything around it. She was performing to an audience of one, Trump. It’s corruption plus staggering levels of incompetence. And when you combined them all, you reached almost the incompetence--corruption singularity.
Not sure why the Epstein files are "Unbloggable" but then I'm not a blogger. Almost all the Congressional hearings are boring, badly done theater. I was hoping the Hillary/Clinton/Epstein one would be done behind closed doors because that's the only time you get real information.
there are so many hot takes, offered by the corporate press that are wrong
I keep reading "Marco in Munich" as "Marco in Munch."

For some reason Billionaire Les Wexner originally had his name redacted, despite being up to his eyeballs in sex trafficing and being Jeffrey Epstein best friend forever.
But it looks like the House will force him to testify. Congressmen are returning his campaign donations.
Joyce Beatty (OH-03) statement:
"Throughout this matter, I have been consistent in my call for justice for the survivors. Within the recently released documents are references to Les Wexner and his interactions with Jeffrey Epstein. Mr. Wexner must answer all questions under oath. If he participated in or enabled these crimes, he must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law."
I read Marco's speech last night. Bravo.

The gallery of Epstein Victims /as props - all blame Bondi for Epstein.
I have read that each and every one of the "victims" of Epstein that have been paraded before the cameras in the past few weeks was in fact an adult at the time of her supposed victimization. None were minors. None were enslaved, imprisoned, or intimidated. All of them were provided with money and free travel, lodging, and entertainment.
How are we supposed to distinguish such women from grifting whores and harem girls jumping on the Epstein bandwagon for fame and fortune? Is it now the case that any competent adult woman who accepts a ride on a yacht or a private jet, and gives sexual favors to the owner in hopes of being invited back for more, is actually a "victim"?
why was wexner (redacted) allegedly because of a tangential tie to intelligence, in this case, the air fleet of southern air transport,
Bill Clinton should have to testify in the Epstein probe. Donald Trump should not have to.

I'm trying to think of the last time we learned something useful in a Congressional hearing, at least a hearing that made the news. When you watch any of these hearings at length, no one -- on either side -- comes off as someone who should be trusted with any role in government.
I thought Rubio's speech was refreshing in tone, but as I thought about it more, I realized that a gifted, traditionally educated high school student could have written it easily. That says a lot about the state of politics today.
Apparently “America First” means promising foreign countries financial assistance from US taxpayers but only if they vote for the incumbent president trailing in the polls.
Rubio’s visit to Hungary and pledge of financial support if the Orban government faces problems—looks a lot like interference when elections will take place April.
“US President Donald Trump would provide assistance if Hungary ever ran into financial trouble under Prime
Minister Viktor Orban, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, giving an extraordinary endorsement to the long-time leader ahead of an election in April.
“I can say to you with confidence that President Trump is deeply committed to your success,” Rubio said at a
joint news conference with Orban in Budapest on Monday.
“We want this country to do well. It’s in our national interest, especially as long as you’re the prime minister and the leader of this country.” ~ Bloomberg News
It's hilarious that the 'powerful' United States is left with friends like Orban, very much the MyPillow of world leaders.

Reading the CNN story on Massie disclosing that six very important names (including Wexner) were being redacted for no good reason. Seems one was a UAE businessman who's already resigned from his position.
Of course CNN isn't really interested in what rich and powerful people are being protected. And don't mention "Israel". Whatever you do don't say "Mossad". Even worse, is CNN leaves the story 1/2 down to talk about Trump. Because all thats really important to the MSM/Democrats is...."Get Trump by any means neccessary".
BTW, "The Young turks" are leftists, but they're doing good work on the "esptein files". So is "Breaking Points" on Youtube.

Why is this British newspaper so wrapped up in US micro-politics? Apparently, there is no longer anything occurring in the UK worthy of their attention.
crass disrespect, diminishing everything around it.
I voted for Trump for the explicit purpose of having him be insulting and belittling towards the corrupt braying jackasses of Congress and the petty tyrants and scheming court eunuchs of the senior civil service.
I'm delighted that he has surrounded himself with people who feel the same way, and happy to have them convey my feelings of disrespect, hatred, contempt, and distrust to them.
I hope the enemy monster Deep State occupation government is "diminished" to a vastly greater degree before his term is over.
Of course Munich is not interesting to Ann.
The democrats in Munich are making campaign commercials for Republicans.
You could tell who the Germans were in the crowd when Newsome compared ICE to “German Storm Troopers.”
AOC said Venezuela is south of the equator.
Hillary was put in her place by the Polish foreign minister.
Democrats are just retards with the dumb leading the blind. If you had supported them your whole life it would be embarrassing.
So will it be Rubio or Vance?
I anticipate a Marco and Amelia meme sometime soon. Perhaps with the German Maria as well.
Marco’s speech was clarifying and very well done. Everyone appeared intent and engaged. The remarkable thing to me was/is their response was “thanks for the reassurance”, when Marco was clear that they need to fight for their own sovereign states as a condition of our continued partnerships. We’ll not be a partner to the managed decline of Europe that is currently underway. Maybe Marco not clear enough, maybe deaf ears.
"4. Marco in Munich."
How about "Hillary in Munich"?
'We may have gone too far with illegal immigration'.
Sure, after flagrantly dismissing our laws and helping themselves politically to the tune of tens of millions of illegals, now we may have gone too far. Bitch.
Bondi showed the Dems can dish it out but can't take it.
I'm also glad that the press has stopped putting a halo around Obama's head when they publish a picture of him.
If Rubio were president, transatlantic relations would look different today. Absent that, the actual impact of his speech on European leaders is negligible.
The single best response to the current American foreign policy would be to establish an effective European competition policy and appropriate digital policies to forestall or effectively regulate American predatory monopolies. European foreign trade capability is far superior to that of the monopolized American behemoths who can only expand overseas if they are able to create and sustain monopolies.
so a pritzker has stepped down from hyatt, tom the less weird of the crew,
"Marco has the tools to be a great President."
I agree, but I'm not sure that matters anymore. Half the country clearly doesn't care if a President ever really accomplished anything impressive in their whole life. They see no problem with a President being unaccomplished, incomprehensible, or nearly brain dead. How can you argue merit with such people. They just don't care.
@Mike (MJB Wolf) maybe you already know this but in Spanish, ‘v’ is pronounced like a ‘b’, changing from a fricative to a stop consonant by keeping the lips closed. Given that, it doesn’t take much to see how that became buckaroo
"European foreign trade capability is far superior …"
lol. Good luck competing with an economy that can no longer power itself.
The problem with hitting rock bottom getting you to turn things around is that you can die on the way down. Much of European leadership is not capable of admitting they even have a problem. As they all know, they are superior, especially on inside.
"On free trade, Europe will eventually be forced to take action against Chinese mercantilism, but has a longer road to eliminate dependence on Chinese rare earths. But with a $400 billion annual trade deficit with China and no real opportunity to sell more to China, tariffs are a necessity to protect European businesses from Chinese state-run, state-subsidized mercantilism."
So they're justified in protecting themselves but we're not.
Some believe Nancy Guthrie was abducted by aliens, and Obama saw the whole thing. Marco is in Munich negotiating her return, and if that doesn't work, Bondi will bring them to justice. You can read about it in the Epstein files.
The only interesting tidbit I extracted from Rubio's Munich appearance was his correct tying of our American cowboy culture to the Spanish vaqueros culture
AOC mocked him for that.
Even when she's wrong, she's wrong with such confidence and condescension.
Also, of course, no mention of gringo cowboys
Marco in Munich was Munificent
Obama and the aliens?! No way!
Did he get probed? I can't believe you don't want to blog that.

It's all a big psy-op to get people to go along with the EU gaining the power to tax Europeans, and for the EU, which has no direct elections, BTW, to run the affairs of all of the countries in Europe, not just for the duration of the war, but forever.
This is the crowd that Ukraine is fighting to join.

"Is it now the case that any competent adult woman who accepts a ride on a yacht or a private jet, and gives sexual favors to the owner in hopes of being invited back for more, is actually a "victim"?"
Schrodinger's female. You don't know whether she's a competent adult or a victim until she determines which role benefits her the most.
On free trade, Europe will eventually be forced to take action against Chinese mercantilism, but has a longer road to eliminate dependence on Chinese rare earths
Most rare earths are not really rare in the sense the layman might think, but only by comparison to the staggering amounts of more common elements like silicon, oxygen, aluminum, calcium, and iron in the Earth's crust. They are approximately as "rare" as lead or copper or tin, and far more common than gold or platinum. They are seldom found in elemental form, however, so they are harder to identify and purify.
All of them were discovered in Europe, and many of their names reflect that fact: Europium. Scandium (cf. Scandinavia). Thulium (from Thule). Lutetium (from the Roman name for Paris.) Holmium (from Stockholm).
Yttrium, ytterbium, terbium, and erbium were all discovered in a mine in the village of Ytterby, Sweden, and in one of the most unimaginative acts of toponymy from the Scientific Revolution, all four of them were given names derived from the name of the village.
Have you ever read anything so confidently, smugly, brazenly stupid in your life?

Althouse didn't blogg...

"Have you ever read anything so confidently, smugly, brazenly stupid in your life?"
I swear, he's being paid to produce his drivel.
For those who think anything in Munich is worthy of blogging, did you feel the same about Davos this year? Trump spoke there. Yet, I don’t recall any of it moving he needle of foreign politics.
Obama explains: he thought he was doing a "speed round" of questioning, like the "lightning round" on game shows, when the point was to answer as quickly and concisely as possible, without long explanations. What the point of that would be I don't know.
Anyway, what he's saying now is the usual thing: the odds are there is life out there, but space is so vast that it's unlikely that they've come here, and he hasn't seen any actual evidence of aliens being here.
So, either it was an inadvertent truth-telling gaffe that has to be vigorously "corrected" now, or it was just a stupid misunderstanding.
Its a book mark with vance who ruffled some feathers
Was Marco really saying anything very new? Anything that Vance hadn't said? Anything that internet commenters having been saying for a long time? Nowadays, a secretary of state or foreign minister making a statement may be news, but what was actually said won't be anything new.
The thing about Munich 2026 is that Gretchen Wittmer and AOC were unable to answer serious questions, and Hillary Clinton was slapped down by the Czech foreign minister. So, it was all best unblogged about if you want to be a banner carrier for feminism.
De-redacted portions of Teh Epstein Files contain numerous alien names--Mork, Alf, and Zorak among them.
I think we already knew Obama was a space alien. No wonder its boring and unbloggable.
"Some believe Nancy Guthrie was abducted by aliens, and Obama saw the whole thing. Marco is in Munich negotiating her return, and if that doesn't work, Bondi will bring them to justice. You can read about it in the Epstein files."

President Donald J. Trump gave a version of Marco Rubio's Munich speech to the U.N. General Assembly in 2018. The Europeans laughed at him. They are not laughing now.
The reason that Marco Rubio's recent speech was taken seriously is because President Trump was absolutely correct, and had the balls to act accordingly. Marco Rubio has learned a lot. The Euros ought to pay attention.
I think that not blogging about Rubio's speech is possibly a disservice. To ignore topics of such major importance could suggest his speech is insignificant -- but it could be too soon to digest and discuss.
However not discussing these topics of Western "culture" and its "replacement" might be forfeiting or surrendering its sovereignty.
What does the replacement of Western civilization look like and why are some people so convinced brown people will improve society when their native countries are such a mess they decided they had to leave?
Older US industrial firms have been decimated -- not by European firms, but by Asian ones. As for the current American tech giants, Europe never created any firms that could compete with them. The US firms were able to prevail in free market conditions. Calling in government to tilt the playing field to the advantage of European companies wouldn't make Europe's already overregulated economies more efficient or well-run. It also would only promote Europe's current anti-free speech trend.
What the internet has found in the Epstein dump is his belief that blue eyes are correlated with high intelligence and his funding of Harvard's evolutionary studies institute with a view towards proving things like that.
Even with their substantially lower income, Europeans cannot compete with American industry, and in a socialist welfare state, importing immigrants to fix that backfires, and predictably so. It seems to me the European mindset is not positioned to get out of this, just like a big part of the U.S., but I think we have a large portion here with the right values and sensibility to save us all if the crazies would just take a rest.

It's hysterical that Rubio accuses Iran of operating on "sheer theology" when the reason that so many in the US support this war on 90 million people, bombing the shit out of them, destroying their ambulances, their fire departments, you know, collapsing their modern life, is to bring Jesus back.

Epstein files are anticlimactic. The Dems were convinced that if they got everything, they could use it to take down Trump. Nope. Turns out that Trump was one of the first to go to the authorities about Epstein, some 20 years ago (2006). Epstein didn’t know who had turned him in, and suspected Trump. Trump was the dog that didn’t bark.
Meanwhile, pretty much every big name Dem over the last 20 years was dragged into the Epstein orbit. The Clintons, Obama, the Biden’s, Pelosi, Schumer, etc. plus a lot of their funders.
So, of course, the NYT, etc, are now miraculously uninterested in the Epstein files…
