"Governor Tim Walz called me with the request to work together with respect to Minnesota. It was a very good call..."

"... and we, actually, seemed to be on a similar wavelength. I told Governor Walz that I would have Tom Homan call him, and that what we are looking for are any and all Criminals that they have in their possession. The Governor, very respectfully, understood that, and I will be speaking to him in the near future. He was happy that Tom Homan was going to Minnesota, and so am I! We have had such tremendous SUCCESS in Washington, D.C., Memphis, Tennessee, and New Orleans, Louisiana, and virtually every other place that we have 'touched' and, even in Minnesota, Crime is way down, but both Governor Walz and I want to make it better!"

That's from PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP at Truth Social.

That's nice. I can think of a couple cynical things to say, but I'll leave them unsaid.

One of Trump's conditions is that all violent criminals in state prisons be turned over to ICE for deportation. Why should they be let go if the state wants to keep them in prison as punishment for their violent crimes. Why give them a benefit that U.S. citizens don't have?

Jim, @ 12:55, can you clarify something?

Are you suggesting violent offenders should be deported instead of serving their prison sentence? Because right now, non-citizens serve the same sentence as citizens, and only after that may be transferred to ICE.

Also, how should Minnesota legally hold someone for ICE without a judge’s warrant when courts have said that violates due process?

I’m trying to understand how deportation is a “benefit” compared to a citizen serving time and going home.

Ronald - Sorry if I wasn't clear. I think generally thery should serve their sentence before being deported. The administration wants to deport them before they serve their sentence. To quote Trump:

That outlier is easy to explain and very difficult to cover up, even with the media lying 24/7. If the midterms are a referendum on the deportation of illegal aliens, the Democrats are going to get hosed. Trump isn't going to back DHS down on this- it will continue and if Walz and Frey continue to actively fight this by encouraging people to obstruct the operation they are going to get arrested and tried in federal court. When that happens, it won't evidence a civil war but the exact opposite. I suspect Walz and Frey are going to back down long before it comes to that- they are holding a losing hand.

Neo posted the following description of immigration law and procedures generated by Grok for one of her commenters (link to her post at thenewneo.com with a fuller explanation and a link to the original comment in context)

CE can immediately deport you for overstaying a visa because overstaying is a civil immigration violation, not a criminal offense in almost all cases — and removal (deportation) is a civil administrative process, not a criminal prosecution.
Here’s how it works in plain terms:

1. Overstaying = Civil Violation, Not a Crime

When your authorized stay (marked by the I-94 arrival/departure record) expires, you begin accruing unlawful presence (INA § 212(a)(9)(B)).
This is purely a civil immigration violation — it does not require a criminal conviction or even a criminal charge.
The government does not need to prove you committed a crime to remove you; it only needs to prove you are removable under immigration law.

2. Removal (Deportation) Is a Civil Administrative Process

Deportation is handled through immigration courts under the Department of Justice (Executive Office for Immigration Review), not criminal courts.
The standard of proof is preponderance of evidence (“more likely than not”), not “beyond a reasonable doubt” (criminal standard).
ICE can initiate removal proceedings against you simply by showing:
You were admitted or paroled into the U.S.
Your authorized stay has expired (I-94 shows overstay)
You are still in the country

That’s it — no criminal trial is required.

3. Expedited Removal and Administrative Removal (Fast-Track Deportation)
In many cases, ICE doesn’t even need to go to immigration court:

Expedited removal (INA § 235(b)(1)): Applies to people who entered without inspection or were admitted for a short period (e.g., Visa Waiver Program) and are caught near the border or within 2 years of entry. Overstays can sometimes fall under this if recently entered.
Administrative removal (INA § 238(b)): For non-citizens who are not lawful permanent residents and have been convicted of an aggravated felony — but this is less common for pure overstays.

Reinstatement of removal (INA § 241(a)(5)): If you were previously removed and re-entered illegally or overstayed again, ICE can reinstate the prior order without a hearing.

For most garden-variety visa overstays (e.g., tourist visa B-2 or student visa F-1), ICE typically places you in regular removal proceedings (Notice to Appear), but if you have no legal defense (no pending application, no asylum claim, no U.S. citizen spouse, etc.), the process can move very quickly — sometimes days or weeks from arrest to deportation.

4. Why It Feels “Immediate”

Once ICE takes you into custody (e.g., traffic stop, workplace raid, routine check), they can verify your status instantly via databases.
If you admit the overstay or have no credible claim to stay, ICE can issue a final order of removal very rapidly.
You may be detained without bond (especially if flight risk or prior violations).
Voluntary departure (self-deport) is sometimes offered to avoid a formal removal order, but if you refuse, they proceed to deport you.

Bottom Line
Overstaying a visa is not a crime ? no criminal trial is needed.
Deportation is a civil immigration process ? ICE only needs to prove you are unlawfully present, which is straightforward once your I-94 shows you overstayed.
That’s why ICE can move to deport you very quickly (sometimes in days) without any criminal prosecution.

This has been the law since 1996. President Clinton signed the law.

A civil process for a civil infraction is due process.

There is no reason for an illegal alien convicted of a crime and subject to a final deportation order to get another hearing upon release from incarceration.

Kakistocracy చెప్పారు...

Howard, protesting doesn't involve getting up in the faces of law enforcement while armed with a weapon. Pretti could have protested from a distance but didn't- he initiated a confrontation when there was zero reason to do so and got his ass killed while resisting arrest. The videos do appear to show him reaching into his waist band for the gun which just happened to be removed at almost the same instant. Once he initiated that interaction, he became primarily responsible for everything else that followed. I have yet to see a single video where ICE agents or border patrol move towards protestors- the interactions are always initiated by the protestors themselves who try to physically obstruct whatever operation ICE is carrying out.

I asked a question in a previous thread, Howard- what would you tell a child/grandchild of yours- that they should behave like Pretti and Good or that such behavior is stupid and dangerous with a not low probability of them ending up in a morgue? We aren't defending "murderous cowards", we are simply not rising to the defense of morons like Pretti and Good were breaking the law in a dangerous manner. I know that you understand the difference.

Minneapolis—who normally doesn't do this type of thing—is an
acknowledgment that Greg Bovino and Kristi Noem have lost all credibility and have totally failed. They should both be fired.

Trump's approval rating is likely to hit all-time lows over this. It's pretty difficult to find anyone who supports the administration's view of this whole episode, even among Trump supporters.

There will likely be new conditions put on the DHS funding bill before the Senate to rein in ICE and there should be some high profile firings as well. If not, impeachments will likely follow, although those wouldn't likely come until Democrats win Congress this time next year.

Ronald J. Ward చెప్పారు...

Greg @ 1:50, under Minnesota law and constitutional law, an ICE detainer is not a judicial warrant — it’s a federal administrative request. Minnesota sheriffs do not have legal authority to hold someone past their release date just because of a detainer, and doing so risks civil liability under state law. Federal law can’t force a state or county to enforce immigration detainers because of the Tenth Amendment. So it’s not just a sanctuary policy issue — it’s a legal limit on what local law enforcement can do.

Ronald, you ignorant slut, the ICE-detainer list is already in the hands of Minnesota law enforcement and the courts. Maybe you can add two and two but I will spell it out for you- all Minnesota has to do is alert ICE where the individual is before his mandated release so that ICE can pick him up at the moment he is released. None of that violates Minnesota constitutional law. What sanctuary jurisdictions are doing is not informing ICE that they hold these individuals and, in many cases, are releasing them early when ICE is coming to pick them up.

It is now politically convenient for Trump to switch sides. Those officers will now be put through the meat grinder and probably end up in the same jail cell as Derek Chauvin.

So it doesn't really matter what Pretti's intentions were.

Trump is throwing the Border Patrol under the bus because that helps Trump. And what helps Trump is all Trump is concerned about.

Good and Prettis would be alive right now if they had confined their protests to actual protesting and not branching out into obstruction. If a person with a gun is resisting arrest it is entirely reasonable to believe he is carrying a second gun and that he showed up with intent to shoot you.

I’ve already explained over and over why crime is down. My (crime-leading) neighborhood has been quiet for months. Metro Surge has a lot to do with that but hardly all of it (how about a year of construction in Uptown?)—immigrants aren’t going out. All kinds of public gatherings have been diminished over the last year, as they have unfortunately for years. Before George Floyd and Covid, the Minneapolis Institute of Art (single most important institution in the neighborhood) had 750,000 admissions per year. Now it’s under 600,000. (Of course the temperature being ten below zero for most of the month also “helps.”) If you lived here, you’d know this. The drop in crime is good but it’s happening because things aren’t going well here. It sucks.

Trump is getting heat from the usual suspects here for allowing an investigation into the Pretti shooting. As if he wouldn't get heat from the same sources if he didn't allow an investigation. It's just as silly to believe that Trump is always wrong as it is to believe that he's always right.

Why is Derek Chauvin still in jail?

A career criminal OD'd on fentanyl and the officer got thrown in jail for murder.

Trump hasn't dealt with that injustice yet. Keeping Chauvin in jail can only be for political expedience.

If Trump had done his job Pretti and all of the insurrectionists would be in jail and would be alive. Letting these people blow whistles and spit on ICE agents we hired to do this job is just going to get more people killed.

They are doing 2 things:

It sucks.

Yes. All this.

And the ripple effects continue unabated. Every year around this time there is a one day high school basketball event called the Border Battle that features games between Wisconsin and Minnesota high schools. The location rotates between Wisconsin and Minnesota each year. This year's event is at Hamline University in St. Paul, an area nowhere near any of the incidents, but the event is in danger because the Wisconsin high school teams are concerned about potential violence even though the chances of anything happening at Hamline are about nil. If you were to believe some of the reportage out there, you'd think the Twin Cities were Gaza and it's just not true.

The Federal gov't could not force States to adopt a maximum speed limit of 55. They couldn't force States to raise the drinking age to 21.

But they COULD threaten to deprive States of Federal highway funds if they didn't do that.

The Feds are free to send ICE wherever they want, including preferentially to "sanctuary" States, and there's nothing either the States, or a Federal judge, can legally do about it.

It’s all the news networks and platforms want to talk about. And they’re seeing the Good shooting and the 5 year old and the pepper spray to the face while being held down by multiple goons, bloodied U.S. citizens kidnapped and dumped out down the road.

But here’s where it kicks in. They are also seeing a blaring contrast between the damning videos and the blatant lies from Kristi Noem, Stephen Miller and Gregory Bovino. And from what I’ve deduced from the multiple sources I read, this, for a lot of fence sitters, was just too much. Too much for many people who were still, for some reason, inclined to believe the Trump regime over the opposition.

THOSE shoots were "righteous!" because it was government killing conservatives. I lived in that area until 40-some years ago. I'm delighted to see that Eat Street still exists, although I'm saddened by what happened to Uptown.
Here’s the difference between old Eat St and what we have now. The Vietnamese immigrants saved the neighborhood 30-35 years ago by starting businesses, mostly restaurants, and then buying the buildings in what was a bunch of halfway houses and drapery workshops. They made good money but their kids didn’t want to stand in front of a pho pot the way they had, plus SE Asian people wanted a house on a bit of land. So they moved to the suburbs. So while we still do have those businesses, virtually no Vietnamese people live here any more. Absentee landlords are not as good as non absentee landlords. They left before it was REALLY gentrified. What replaced the Vietnamese here is a less stable, less wealthy population. Uptown’s decline hurt our attracting customers from other neighborhoods, plus there are immigrant restaurants all over town now so we’re not so unique, and the city council has made the city not a place you want to do business anyway. How many new businesses in a marginal neighborhood can comply with the new Family Leave act? Metro Surge has hit us both on demand and supply side. Etc, etc…

Unknown చెప్పారు...

RJW, that event was pretty simple. You remember when your favorite Democrats were demanding a total dicatorship, when the only time people were allowed to gather was for leftist riots in the street? Of course you do: every Democrat views that as the "best time in American history when people like Newsome got to party without having the peons around!"

In any event, Just like everywhere else, leftists said "you peasants have to be locked up in solitary, but we can riot all we want!" and a certain Democrat by the name of John Sullivan was running around organizing BLM riots which he called "protest" because as we all know, every Democrat sponsored riot, no matter how violent and destructive, is a "peaceful protest." If there are more than ten deaths, it becomes a "mostly peaceful protest." (If it's a Republican protest where the only deaths are from cops shooting and beating protestors, it's an "insurrection" and "the most dangerous event in US history!!!!!")

In any event, Sullivan the Antifa/BLM riot organizer got a bunch of his leftist thugs and they invaded Provo, Utah, a college town but in one of the most Republican counties in America. And they did their usual "Take over the streets because nothing says protest like hurting plain old regular people trying to go home from work!" And this poor guy on his way home from work took a left turn and ran smack into the leftist, Democrat mob that Inga and you adore so much. He stopped, and one of Sullivans buddies took out his gun and reached through the passenger window and shot the poor driver, who had to take off and drive himself to the hospital.

Like most places, the police weren't allowed by the cowardly mayor to do anything, even after this attempted murder.

It was after that little incident that the good people of Utah organized some militias that, fully armed, just stood about 100 yards away from every BLM wannabe riot afterwards that summer. Oddly enough, the violence... stopped. Leftists and Democrats screamed "Intimidation!" because they didn't dare ramp up the violence with all of the citizen militia members.

Incidentally, this same John Sullivan is a leftist hero because he was at Jan 6, yelling and calling for violence, and it was Sullivan's video that caught the murder of Ashley Babbitt by the cowardly, leftist ordered cop.

And now all the Democrats in Utah are defending the attempted murderer (who to be clear was Sullivan's friend, not Sullivan) because the guy claims he thought the stopped vehicle was an "imminent threat" to run over protestors who were banging on his hood and screaming at him and attacking him. That is absolutely when it's ok to shoot the person in the car... if it's the leftist protestor who claims to think they might be in danger. ICE officer getting hit and run over while the leftist guns the vehicle? "Murder by ICE!!!!!"

MAGA is just itching for 2 more.

No, we need at least 98 more.

100 dead leftists for Ashli Babbitt sounds like a fair trade.

Of course, you all could stop being violent criminal thugs, and then no one would die.

But that would require you to be decent human beings who accept democracy and the rule of law, but you're power hungry scum, so you can't do that

Is there anything wrong, RWJ, with ICE defending themselves against violent communist swine who are trying to kill them?

Not only is Trump not the worst president ever, he's not even the worst living president, or the second-worst living president, or even the third-worst living president. Not so long as Clinton, Obama, and Biden are all still alive. If you want to say he's the fourth-worst, meaning second-best, and that George W. Bush is the fifth-worst, meaning best, knock yourself out. You won't convince very many people.

It would be interesting to know who are the people that ICE wants to deport, and that the Minneapolis crowd want to keep on the street, and what they might have done to deserve deportation.

I know I am late to this discussion but I do not think I saw anyone else bring this up...

Walz only called Trump after is was discovered that there was a Signal chat group that included the Lieutenant governor and law enforcement personel coordinating the movements of the "observers" to obstruct or impede the workings of ICE. I view this as capitulation from Walz, also that there was enought actual insurrection in that act to make life really uncomfortable for several Minnesota politicians.

Beasts of England చెప్పారు...

’thats what's on his cue card,’

I get that, but can’t they mix it up a little? lol

Unknown చెప్పారు...

So what's the deal with the Signal chat? I know they found Minneapolis police, but the LG was involved too, coordinating with the rioters? And I thought I saw something about Mexico too?

If that's true, isn't that straight up treason? Cooperating with a foreign country to harm and commit insurrection? If the Mexico thing is wrong, then it would be Sedition, right?

Beasts of England చెప్పారు...

’…there was enought actual insurrection in that act to make life really uncomfortable for several Minnesota politicians.’

One of their state senators was a moderator of their Signals groups, and admitted it. There were several infiltrators who filmed the text scrolls and it looks like several of the participants used their real names. Not the best and brightest.

One thing I learned many years ago is that you can't graft a new idea on a closed mind./The North and South up in here will never agree, they are locked in their own individual delusions. The sadder part of it is they turn around and rear their children and those around them in the same delusions as their own and if thy dont
follow suit out comes the name calling, the IM RIGHT ALWAYS " SYNDROME AND the real deep seated ones I would guess live alone as no one really wants to be around them and will perish alone and unknown. Pray for the children. Most of the blatant "my point is right ,your wrong" folks never have been able to break RULE 62 and only the Lord of all will sort it out in the end, mere fallible human beings will bow down.. Why debate someone who would never hear? I I I ,ME ME is useless it is all sinking sand. self proclaimed scientist are a dime a dozen, I have seen people up in here speak of the profound wisdom of a carton strip person for "that's the gospel" RULE 62 IN HUMBLE proclamation. .BEAUCOUP DINKY DAU :( Pray for the dead, and hope the "need to be right" folks will find help.

Good luck proving those signal chat tin foil hat theories.

The level of partisan war from the right over this makes it clear they all know this was ICE going too far.

Honest desire for an investigation would means it takes time for the law enforcement story to emerge. Not having Achilles declare treason every 15 minutes

Yes, Donald Trump said that he could "stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody" and "not lose any voters."
He made this statement during a campaign rally in Sioux Center, Iowa, (my home state, so I know he said this) on January 23, 2016, to illustrate the high level of loyalty among his supporters. Trump was speaking at Dordt College in Iowa, praising the devotion of his supporters just nine days before the 2016 Iowa caucuses.
Quote: "I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters," Trump said.
Reactions: The comment was met with laughter from the crowd at the time.
Subsequent Use: The phrase became a well-known, often-cited remark regarding his political durability. Years later, in 2019, his lawyers referenced this, not to argue he could shoot someone, but to suggest in court that a sitting president could not be investigated for actions taken while in office.

Even though every participant in the signal chat was committing treason in the manner most understand treason, the narrow definition in the Constitution makes it difficult to arrest and try them for it. OTOH- the foot soldiers, the rioters in the street could be tried for it as they are making war upon the United States, and the TWO eyewitnesses exist for all their actions. This includes the late Pretti and Goode.

Section. 3.
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

The two eyewitnesses do not exist for chat participants who organized the insurrection. But each and every participant, including the Lieutenant Governor could be tried under 18 U.S. Code § 2383 - Rebellion or insurrection. And should be.

The other day I stated that the question of whether the now dead insurrectionists deserved to die was immaterial and I had no opinion on that. It happened, and the shootings were justified under use of force rules and regulation. The existence of the signal chats and the participation of both of them in it has given me an opinion. They deserved to die. The movement is being funded by overseas actors. And they were willing participants, foot soldiers in an insurrection. Every single person on the signal chats needs to face the full force of the law. "I didn't know it was organized by foreigners!" is not an excuse.

BTW- this what most people I know and interact with believe, Including all my family and all my in-laws who have expressed opinions. Can't be talked about freely on social media. But can be on family chats- using signal.

Mark చెప్పారు...

"We are going after Convicted Criminal X who was adjudicated in a court of law and found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt"

ICE made claims about the person they were seeking on Saturdsy when this happened ... falsely inventing charges.

How about admitting what this 'worst of the worst, worth a riot and civilian death' criminal was convicted of in the court of law you brag about?

Traffic citations? lol

My name goes here (5:02pm):
There is some evidence that Walz himself was in on the Signal chats. One prominent member is called 'Boogie' and I've read on Twitter that that is a pet name for Walz used by his closest associates. It (allegedly) goes back to his first days in politics, when many thought his name was pronounced 'Waltz' (as it would be in German) rather than 'Walls'. A cute way of saying 'Not a Waltz', not some effete European dance, is saying 'Boogie'.

And while I was typing I see Mark entered the discussion "Mark said...

Ah- the signal chats that the Lieutenant Governor admitted participation in, that tin foil hat theory?

Unknown చెప్పారు...

Mark does not deny that Democrats would and are rioting and committing treason to protect illegal alien murderers, rapists, child abusers and more.

His only defense is "Tell me this specific person!" Because he knows that Democrats are now opposed to any and all deportations of anyone, no matter how violent, no matter how anti-american.

After all, it would be hard for any illegal alien to be more anti-American than a Democrat from Minneapolis is right now. And sadly, we cannot deport most of them.

Everyone blowing whistles are rioters.
That is part of the totality of this. Also -why leftist media will omit.
