The funniest story I saw today was about the Hilton-franchised Hampton Inn in Minneapolis, which cancelled a bunch of government room reservations when they realized they were in support of the 2,000 ICE operation which is just starting up. Hilton insists they welcome everybody, local Hampton Inn management then publishes their 'it's all a big mistake, we're fixing it now' message, then a lone guy goes there and tries to check in on a 'government' premise, only to be told they won't accept him.

Then finally, after Round III of hue & cry shock & awe, where the local franchise owners are revealed to be a 4-man Indian partnership, then finally Hilton strips the franchise.

But: What does that mean, actually, besides them not being on the Hilton reservation booking system? Do they have to shut down until they remove all the signage? Did the partnership get the $15 million purchase price with loans, based on expected revenues? Or did they just get it by calling the facility a Day Care Center, and qualifying for some of that sweet, sweet Federal money?

One wonders what will happen next. Will they be re-enfranchised by tourist season next summer?

Who is checking up on Hilton to make sure they aren't lying, too?

Charlie Kirk initially stated on January 6, 2021 (the day of the Capitol riot) that protesters who broke into the Capitol and broke the law should face the highest level of criminal prosecution. A widely circulated video clip from his podcast that day quotes him saying: “All the people that came into Congress today, that broke the law, should be held to the highest level of criminal prosecution.”
Shift in Position
In the days and weeks following (e.g., by January 12, 2021), Kirk began distinguishing between violent participants and others, arguing that not everyone who entered the Capitol was an "insurrectionist" and that many showed only "bad judgment."

More Grokiness:

I was watching a video from Milton Friedman about welfare spending (this was back in early 80's) about how if all the money were just given to the poor it would be more efficient since much of it appears wasted.

Given the fraud we are uncovering it seemed like a good time to modernize the equation. I asked grok to give me the data on what MF was stating and it confirmed his analysis but quibbled at the exact amounts. I then asked for today's numbers. How much spending divided by those under the poverty line:

Comparison to Today's Spending (2023–2025 Data)
Anti-poverty spending has grown dramatically in nominal terms due to program expansions (e.g., Medicaid, EITC), rising healthcare costs, and population growth. Using 2024 as a benchmark (latest full-year data; 2025 projections are similar with ~3.1% annual growth per CBO), the equivalent calculation yields much higher per-recipient figures. Key data:

Total means-tested spending (federal + state/local): Approximately $1.6 trillion in 2023 (includes Medicaid/CHIP, SNAP, TANF/SSI, housing subsidies, EITC/child tax credits, and other income security). This is a conservative estimate; some sources cite federal-only at ~$784–$1.0 trillion, with state/local adding ~$600–$800 billion (e.g., public welfare expenditures). CBO projects mandatory means-tested outlays growing at 3.1% annually through 2034, from a 2024 base of ~$1.0–$1.2 trillion federal.
Number in poverty: 35.9 million people (10.6% rate) in 2024; 36.8 million (11.1%) in 2023.
Number of poor families: 6.9 million (8.1% of all families) in 2024, including 2.7 million married-couple families, 3.4 million female-headed, and 0.8 million male-headed.
Calculation (using $1.6T for 2024):
Per person: $1,600B ÷ 35.9M ≈ $44,568 (nominal).
Per family: $1,600B ÷ 6.9M ≈ $231,884—enough to far exceed the 2025 poverty line (~$31,000 for a family of four).

Inflation-adjusted comparison: $10,000 in 1979 is ~$45,000 in 2026 dollars (using CPI inflation factor of ~4.5x). Today's per-family equivalent (~$232,000 nominal) is about 5x higher in real terms, reflecting expanded programs (e.g., Medicaid now ~40% of means-tested spending) and higher costs. However, inefficiency persists: Administrative overhead and provider payments still consume a large share, with estimates that only 20–40% directly benefits recipients.

One wonders where that money is going since the poor aren't getting anywhere close to a quarter mil per year for the family of 4.

As I once again found myself facing this anniversary and struggling to find the right words about January 6, I sought inspiration from one of the greats of old, Hunter S. Thompson. I pulled out his Gonzo Papers and came across a 1990 column in which he assessed the legacy of Richard Nixon.

“Nixon was a monument to everything rotten in the American dream — he was a monument to why it failed,” Thompson wrote. "He is our monument.”

Of course, in the years after Thompson published that piece, the idea of an oil-driven invasion became a reality. Nixon, in hindsight, becomes an early innovator of brazen ideas that Trump is taking in absurd new directions.

Trump and his gilded, misshapen White House are monuments to the fevered night sweats that have shaken us from the American dream. He is our monument — and January 6 is his national holiday.

Some might be wondering about anti-Semitism, long a creature of the left. Now showing up on the right again. What is up with this obsession with the Jews?

Personally, as a Christian, I think it's a rejection of Christ. God chose the Jews as the people to give birth to a messiah to save humanity. Christians believe Jesus is that person. People who reject this, are looking to the Jews to answer all the problems in the world.

You are the people chosen by God! Why is my life so awful? It is your fault. And they blame the Jews. And they talk about the Jews, over and over.

If they accepted that Jesus is the Christ, and the answer, then all of this hatred and blame would dissipate. You would no longer obsessively focus on this tiny group of people. You would love them, as children of God, like all the rest of us.

Anyway, that's my take. I noticed, when Tucker Carlson slandered and mocked our church, the Episcopal church, in a public speech, that it wasn't too long before he started hating on the Jews. Satan's got a grip on your heart, brother. Wake up.

This is where Tucker used to be.

If you feel your church is hateful and pagan and "not Christian at all," and yet you still identify with your church, then you've got a problem, brother. And your failure to love and forgive your fellow Christian sinners has become a spiritual cancer where you are actively hating on the Jews, in public, for the crime of being Jewish.

Martin Luther became notably anti-Semitic when he got into fights with his church hierarchy. It's something to guard against. Being shallow or flippant about God has not served you well.

I read the Carlson interview “now”. He was criticizing the Episcopalian Bishop who rebuked President Trump while he was in attendance. Don’t you think Carlson’s opinion had merit?

No. I go to the Episcopal church. I do not think we're an "angry hateful organization" or pagan or anti-Christ. I'm an active church-goer.

I think my church is very, very wrong on abortion. I've had many conversations about this in our church. But what his comments signal to me is that he is putting the world and politics over the Holy Spirit. And his anger at his fellow Christians -- his division from them -- has opened the door to evil spirits.

I cannot explain his anti-Semitism any other way. To blame Winston Churchill for World War 2 is deeply irrational.

I cannot of course prove a cause-and-effect. But I have long believed that people who hate the Jews are at war with God, and are in a dark place, spiritually. It's not Christian in the slightest.

Forever MAGA reporter Byron York writes the following abort Jack Smith revealing a "charade " by the Jan 6 Dommitttee.

“Ms. Hutchinson, regarding that particular claim, was a second- or even third-hand witness,” Smith told the committee. “She had heard other people talk about that. And so we interviewed, I think, the people she talked to, and we also interviewed, if my recollection is correct, officers who were there, including the officer who was in the car. And that officer, if my recollection is correct, and I want to make sure I’m right about this, said that President Trump was very angry and wanted to go to the Capitol, but the version of events that he explained was not the same as what Cassidy Hutchinson said she heard from somebody second-hand.”

What Byron didn;t sat is that Hutchinson told the committee in live testimony that SS agent Tony Ornato told her Trump was "irate" after being told he couldn't join his supporters at the Capitol, going so far as to try to grab the steering wheel of the SUV and lunging towards Bobby Engel, who was the head of Trump's Secret Service detail. Engel and Ornato claimed that the presidential lunge didn't happen but then SS would not provide it's communication records regarding the incident to CREW (Citizens for Responsibility & Ethics in Washington).

So one theory going around on the Russian side is that Putin told Trump that he was in Valdai, waiting for his call, when he wasn't, he was supposedly in the Kremlin, when the drone strike was launched against targets "near" Putin's residence," per the CIA in the NYT, but not actually aimed at his residence, and Trump initially showed shock, but then downplayed the whole affair, Putin was just paranoid.

Well it's an old pattern of assassination, to get a target on his phone, and then when you know where he is, launch your attack. Trump used it against Iran, in fact, and against Hamas negotiators in the UAE, I think it was. And some people are suggesting that this was a test of Trump's intentions, his true intentions, by giving him a nice juicy target, and watch his response.

That's all speculation, but I honestly doubt that Trump wants peace in Ukraine. Well he does, after Russia capitulates. So that war is not going to end until it ends.

If Venezuela somehow proves that the US military in "invincible" as Sarah Hoyt seems to think, and that the Venezuelan army didn't sell out Maduro to avoid a dustup with the US gunboats, but that the US weapons were so superior that Chinese and Russian defenses were useless, we will find out when Russia moves on Odessa. Which will be the highest risk of WWIII moment, in my opinion. The moment of maximum desperation, and desperation always leads to escalation.

One of the reasons that people think that the military sold out Maduro was because in the negotiations, Maduro offered to sell out Venezuela to save his own skin.

Time will tell. Que sera sera. I certainly can't see the future.

St Croix: I am an Episcopalian too. You can criticize the hell out of your denomination with no danger of becoming anti-semitic. How do I know this? Because the denomination that's become expert at treading this line is: Judaism! The OT is basically one long castigation of the Jewish people and their institutions. By, of course, Jews. The NT comes close, depending on whether the author of a particular book is trying to say "look, we're harmless - we're just odd Jews" or "look, we're harmless - we're just odd Pagans."

I would say the ECUSA comes perilously close to being anti-Semitic as an institution, with its reflexive leftism and anti-Trumpery. So many of its heroes and causes celebres are bad for the Jews. There are some "righteous Gentiles" on the Kalendar, but they seem to be there so the church can claim "look, the Holocaust was bad - how can we be anti-Semitic if we say the Holocaust was bad?"

There will come a day when Trump or someone Trump-like wants to let in Jewish refugees. And ECUSA will throw a hissy fit like the one they're throwing over the Boers right now.

I wear Springboks kit every time I go to church, as a silent protest. And the Boers would have considered me "coloured" for my tiny amount of black DNA. Doesn't matter. We are supposed to take in the helpless. CC, JSM

Late to this, but I’ll admit to not having any problems with that statement (absent context). The problem is the only law many of them broke was trespassing, which is a misdemeanor, yet they were tried at a higher level of criminal prosecution that was unwarranted. For that reason, they deserve a pardon. If DC courts weren’t so corrupt and followed the law, no pardons would be necessary. But you can’t disenfranchise somebody for a misdemeanor.

St. Croix, as the liberal faction assumes complete control you will not be allowed to be keep your old ways and absolutely all of the pastorate will be libtarded women with butch haircuts. If you can, work to switch to the ACNA breakaway church.

Two unarmed protesters killed by law enforcement is the story of Jan 6. They had to call it an insurrection because it's really Kent State. Was this the point where the official Democrat party stance was 'it's okay to shoot people we don't like' or was it during the Floyd riots? Seems like the Right missed both signals.

Boatbuilder: "The J6 protest seems to be precisely the sort of thing that Hunter S. Thompson would have been heartily in favor of"

Yes, that is a genius take! One of his biggest themes was 'what if the freaks take control?'. That was the reasoning behind his run for Sheriff. CC, JSM

There's just been a fatal shooting in Minneapolis by an ICE employee, of a lady who was blocking the street during an enforcement operation and may also have driven at ICE employees.

Press conference by the mayor and police chief fried to be as anti nice as possible. Questions from the press corps were not probing - Mr Shirley must have been otherwise occupied, and Fox must have been barred at the door.

Interesting to see if this leads to riots. It is cold, so that might keep antifa at home. Real BLM probably have no desire to support illegals. CC, JSM

Hey, maybe I should start a breakaway faction: the Real BLM, like the Real IRA. - jsm

Ronald, did you see this? At the bottom of the home page it says THIS WEBSITE IS PARODY.

Tried to be anti-ICE, not fried to be anti-nice. But both true. CC, JSM

Looking at the picture of the vehicle, there's a bullet hole in the windshield about two inches in from the driver's side edge. The ICE officer was obviously on the front-left of the vehicle with it coming in his general direction, judging from the ballistic trajectory of the bullet hole and the driver's seat. Sounds like Frey was lying when he said that the self-defense narrative was "garbage."

There are mostly white anglo people gathering at the scene, some wearing keffiyehs, to protest. Also swearing at the Minneapolis PD officers who are trying to preserve the crime scene, which Walz and Frey have said will be used to prosecute the ICE guys. So as usual, lacking logic. It's so western and directional. CC, JSM

We are watching The Beast Inside Me and so far (up to episode 3), it's fantastic. I'm amazed at how good an actress Claire Danes has become.

From the comments: "I'm just grateful to see actors without facelift and botox." Ditto!

Danes is the best actress working right now, hands down. This is miles above her previous work. I am seriously impressed.
