A New Year's mood.

That's not my mood. It's what Instagram is serving up for me, either because it has an idea of my sense of humor or because it's some kind of evil monster.

Dear me.
I'm not sure they've caught the essence of Althouse. Perhaps their idea of the essence of 75.

The post title reminds me of the last lines in the latest magazine review of my 'Dylan' film...

From the latest issue of “Phantom of the Movies’ Videoscope” magazine…(on newsstands in about 2 weeks)

BOOTLEG: HIGHWAY 61 REDACTED
…Bob Dylan, deathless and eternal, an avatar for today, hops in a car with a masked Bobby the Cat and off they go on a road trip across Amerika, sifting the past with a nostalgia and sadness that singes.

The countryside rolls by - a montage of stock footage - the Brooklyn Bridge, they're in Mississippi and Louisiana, California, too, with images that grab your heart as a Dylanesque voice-over, gravel-voiced and somber, alternately straight-talking or spinning lyrical riddles, mesmerizes with tales of his life and regrets about his past.

"Redacted" because we meet people connected to or impacted by Dylan, the girlfriends, competitors and rivals, who deconstruct the legend, divulging how Dylan was scared or weak, stole lyrics; in short, sometimes wasn't much to write home about. His world-weary manager (Zumba) sifts the dirt of the music industry.

The politics of yesteryear are still the politics of today. We hear about Dylan's motorcycle and drugs; Bobby confesses he was a C.I.A agent. In Texas, they see a man who looks like Jesus, and the talk is of Oswald because "maybe 2,000 people will know the truth..." Bootleg is not just the what-ifs and could-have-beens but ends with another beautiful bruise to the heart: “Make me young, make me young…”

I expect more good stuff for the world this year than most in the past. One reason is that the lies I've had to swallow for years are being exposed, and a related reason is that at least a few people with power have started to reverse us being a sucker for every parasite in the world. In many parts of the world, the lies of the left are finally being rejected. Of course excess in that direction is a danger, but we are so far off course for so long that over steering on the return would be unlikely for years, and there are still so many hanging on the left side of that wheel, it's not even possible.
My only real worry is China's relentless need for self-esteem far exceeding simple defense.

"Another year older
And a new one just begun"

At least that's how I heard it. Apparently John Lennon actually sang "another year over" which makes more sense. Anyway, concentrate on the new begun year rather than the one year older.

I just realized that eggnog is one of those "sugary drinks" we are supposed to avoid. Fortunately, it won't be on sale much longer.

There is advantage to being a man, not tall, and at best average conventional looks. You face your lack of status early.

Learn to live outside the opinions of others. For only then can you truly be free.

She may lament being "old" in that clip, but she whines like a 3 year-old.

Important to learn, and the earlier the better, but difficult to do. The best I can do is ... much of the time.

Instagram thinks that because I'm female I'm interested in accounts by women whining about...being women. Whining about the misogyny, whining in general. If you are willing to take a few minutes to block unwanted suggestions, the algorithm adjusts. I've tweaked it so it increases the number of suggested accounts by artists. Good thing, as I was really getting sick and tired of yet another woman going on about how "I'm GONNA stay single and childless NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY...(stamps feet, stamps feet)". If you want to appear insecure in your choices, take to social media for the validation that you need that you are doing the right thing.

Men whine about growing old and proclaim it great literature:
I grow old … I grow old …
I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled. - T.S. Eliot

Men have a different approach:

“We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are,
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.”

Tennyson, “Ulysses”.

Shelly Winters was in not one but TWO movies featuring people dying while "Auld Lang Syne" played?? (This and "Poseidon Adventure.")

That has to at least tie a record.

Anyone who can't see Lorraine die and laugh, has no heart.

RCOCEAN II చెప్పారు...

Shelly Winters. She always put the "under" in acts.

RCOCEAN II చెప్పారు...

Its true that after a certain point, every New years means not a another great year, but one step closer to the grim reaper.

RCOCEAN II చెప్పారు...

Usuallywhen an old movies has a death I prefer it to be Shelly Winters, but I'll give this one a look anyway. I bet its a hoot.

I've always found her consistently unwatchable.
