I don't know why, but youtube thinks I'm in love with Larry Bird. Every time I go there, I'm flooded with NBA legends talking about Larry Bird. I keep clicking on the damn things, that's my problem.

Anyway, here is Charles Barkley explaining how he saved Larry Bird, and got fined for his trouble.

"“The working men have no country.” - Communist Manifesto

ChatGPT on Bolshevism:
"The socialist transformation would dissolve the economic basis for borders.

Humanity would eventually organize itself into a worldwide commonwealth."

These ideas sound kind of familiar... They didn't work out for the Soviets, but that doesn't mean that these ideas have died. What Lenin believed was that you used nationalism as a tool to gain power, because it was a powerful way to organize people, but eventually, the nation used for tactical reasons, and solely to gain control, would be destroyed, in other words, "We would have no nation, and be happy."

Loved that bit from Sir Charles. The NBA, and the fans, got so Goddamn lucky in the 80s and 90s. Dr J and the 76ers, Magic, Bird, MJ, Barkley, the Detroit Bad boys, stockon and Malone, Ewing and the knicks. Price and Brad Dougherty, even Golden State had Chris Mullin and Tim Hardaway.

Great stars. Charisma and competitiveness squared. God its been 25 years.

Jaq বলেছেন...

Germany and the UK are finding out about the above.

Trotsky was a big believer in dissolving national borders too, of course bringing all nations, after they had been blended out of existence, of course, under a single control, which was supposed to wither away, in the utopia created, but we all know that once control is established over a population, it is never surrendered.

The only difference between what the Soviets tried to do out of Moscow, is it is now the Globalists out of Davos running the show.

"True Marxists must work toward a Fourth International — a renewed global movement for world revolution, untainted by Stalin’s “national communism.” - Trotskyism? Or globalism?

"“All power to the Soviets!” - Lenin? or the Globalists running countries like Canada, Germany, the UK, France, etc?

Col Douglas McGregor dropped a comment in a video that the globalists were basically pushing warmed over Bolshevism, and you know what? I think that he is right.

McGregor like all his ilk are uneducated idiots. The Liberal consensus was "globalist" for hundreds of years before any Marxist, Trotskyist or Davosite. It is, economically, purely expedient, and states that ran on economic expediency, like 18th-19th century Britain, were there before all the scribblers.

As for centralization, this was another flavor of liberal. This was the state-centric "liberalism" of Jean-Baptiste Colbert and much later, of the French Revolution. The first openly (as opposed to effectively) "liberal" war was the first Carlist war of 1833-1840, the real objective of which was to centralize power in Spain, and crush the traditional regional autonomy. Its no accident that the UK openly backed the Liberal government (look up the battle of Oriamendi).

Centralized rule, "liberal" modern administration btw, was a goal of the Czarist regime since Peter the Great. Putin is his successor, and the Ukrainian war is just another instance of the Carlist wars.

The official Catholic political ideology (which they like to forget), subsidiarity, supports the Carlist cause, and local rule (and thus the Ukrainian cause). It was eventually instituted as opposition to the policy of another "liberal", Otto von Bismarck.

On Spain and the Empire - the Spanish national/imperial motto, on its coat of arms and thus its flag, is that of Carlos I/Charles V - "plus ultra" - "go beyond". As a stated purpose, nothing is bolder, more adventurous, more courageous I think. And so Spain did, until the limits and realities of this world ended that. "Plus Ultra" is my vote for the name of the first starship.

Trump threatens extra 100% tariff as he retaliates against China ~ WSJ

China's action mirrors the US Commerce Department's action a week earlier on September 29th:
"Beijing’s announcement this week amounts to a Chinese version of the extraterritorial “foreign direct product rule” that Washington has used to require companies from third countries to obtain licenses to export chips with US content to China. " ~ FT

It is still tit-for-tat, however much Trump acts innocent and asks "Where did this come from" China continues its policy of not lying down, but responding reciprocally.

China hawks are not getting the security briefings from the DOD that Trump is getting: that in a matter of months after China imposes a rare earths embargo, US jet fighters won't be able to take off. Trump currently has no hand to play, and Beijing knows it. It will take the US at least 20 years to reverse the rare earths mistake. How long will it take China to achieve semiconductor independence? Deep Seek gives Beijing hope. All Trump can do now is to bluster sufficiently in the hope of getting the best deal he can. Meanwhile, he has to hope Jensen and Nvidia can stay ahead enough of the Chinese engineers to give Beijing incentive to continue to negotiate.

'Hurting farmers': Trump admin just made an 'unusual acknowledgement' about its policies
Donald Trump's administration just made an "unusual acknowledgement" about its immigration policies, according to a new report Saturday.
In a weekend article called "Trump administration says immigration enforcement threatens higher food prices. In an unusual acknowledgement, the Labor Department said that tougher immigration enforcement is hurting farmers and the food supply.(no duh)
Everything Donald Trump does turns to crap/
The Trump administration said that its immigration crackdown is hurting farmers and risking higher food prices for Americans by cutting off agriculture’s labor supply. The Labor Department warned in an obscure document filed with the Federal Register last week that 'the near total cessation of the inflow of illegal aliens' is threatening 'the stability of domestic food production and prices for U.S. consumers.
Unless the Department acts immediately to provide a source of stable and lawful labor, this threat will grow. The official document reportedly states. “The Department concludes that qualified and eligible U.S. workers will not make themselves available in sufficient numbers."
Labor shortage tied to food supply risks
According to the report, "The American Prospect first reported on the Labor Department’s comments that immigration policies are endangering the food supply and that American workers are unwilling to take agricultural jobs."
The Labor Department’s comments appear to be the first time that the Trump administration has publicly acknowledged that its hallmark immigration policy , sealing the border and deporting undocumented immigrants , threatens labor shortages and higher food prices," according to the outlet's reporting. However, economists have been sounding the alarm since Trump campaigned on the issue during last year’s presidential election.
Mid westerners cut their own throats voting for this knucklehead. They didn't learn after his 1st debacle of a term. They had to be bailed out back then ,sometimes you do get what you deserve. He hasn't taken long to FUK up things and its just gonna get worse. Local [Pittsburgh] Officer Hit by Stolen Vehicle During Police Chase

"Officer hit by stolen vehicle during police chase in Pittsburgh; possible suspect car found

An officer was hit by a stolen car before a police chase started in Pittsburgh Saturday.

According to Pittsburgh Police, around 10 a.m., police got reports of a stolen vehicle from Zone 6 and that it was entering Zone 1.

The reported stolen car and another vehicle were spotted in a parking lot, honking their horns, and had masked people inside the cars near Federal Street and Lafayette Avenue in Fineview.

As officers were getting out of their patrol vehicles, one officer was hit by one of the suspects’ cars.

The officer has moderate head injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Both suspect vehicles continued to flee.

One of the suspect vehicles was spiked near the 10th Street Bridge, but continued driving towards downtown. The car made it to Boulevard of the Allies and Grant Street, where multiple suspects got out.

Officers apprehended four people at the scene near Grant Street in Downtown Pittsburgh.

Police were told about an abandoned vehicle on Brutus Way in Sheraden matching the second suspect vehicle’s description.

No suspects were located at the scene, and the car has been towed for processing.

The investigation is ongoing. Charges are expected soon.

This is a developing story..."

Maybe Trump has finally realized that his strategy of generosity toward Russia at the expense of Ukraine, has not delivered results. Or because Melania is reminding him, nightly, about how the Russian mind works. As a born Slovenian, she knows what it is to live under Russian occupation, and how they think.

Perhaps Kakistocacy (a pen name that describes the Biden administration top to bottom!) is confusing Slovenia with Slovakia. Following World War II Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, and Bosnia-Herzegovina were bundled together into Yugoslavia, and Tito, the communist dictator of Yugoslavia, had the clout to keep Stalin and his successors at bay. Though a communist country, Yugoslavia was never part of the Warsaw Pact and pursued an independent international alignment, neither part of the Soviet sphere of influence nor aligned with the NATO countries.

The event was sponsored by the Chicago May First Anarchist Alliance and Black Rose/Rosa Negra Anarchist Federation. There were two speakers at the event: Matthew Nemiroff Lyons and Michael Staudenmaier.

That sort of does sound like an organization, or at least something more than a mere "idea." Antifa is an outgrowth or rebranding of Anti-Racist Action (1988-2023). The rebranding started in Portland with Rose City Antifa, formerly Portland Anti-Racist Action. The Torch Network is the successor to ARA. Given that many in the movement are anarchists, it's not a hierarchical, top-down command structure, but there are organizations, there is some coordination, and there is funding. One just has to look hard enough for it.

We have to remember what we are risking WW3 for. For Kiev to assert control over a region, finally, more than a decade after taking power in a coup, outlawing the use of its native language in textbooks, in the laws, forbidding its literature from being taught in schools, outlawing its church, making it all but impossible for them to have contact with their families in Russia, punishment of "collaborators" who would be on the losing side of this decade old civil war, and "With malice towards none," is not a phrase that flows trippingly off the lips of Zelensky. The nuclear bluff has worn thin. The thing about nuclear weapons is that the threat of them has great value, while the use of them has zero value. Which is why they have not been used since WWII

Kakistocracy বলেছেন...

It would be terrible if Russia's power grid was to go down. Then the next day their railways. Then the next day their air traffic control. It would be no more intentional than the drone incidents, of course, and absolutely nothing to do with the west whatsoever.

From a Russian point of view they are seeing European countries actively assisting Ukraine to hit their oil refineries, pumping stations and now the oil terminals they use to export. They know that any attempt to hit the Europeans in the same way would be a blatant act of war so they have to restrict themselves to what are basically nuisance tactics. The most appropriate response to this could be simply to double down on support for Ukraine to ensure that refineries in Russia are down not 20% but 80% and pipelines to the ports are similarly crippled. Ukraine has demonstrated one significant hit on Russia's energy grid perhaps that should be next on the list of targets. Putin has to come to the conclusion that he not only cannot win but that he cannot afford to turn this into another frozen conflict and that tweaking Europe's tail will just make his situation worse.

Hassayamper বলেছেন...

The thing about nuclear weapons is that the threat of them has great value, while the use of them has zero value.

Did the "family atomics" of Dune ever get used? I can't recall now, but I remember they were dealt with in quite a matter -of-fact way, as if every aristocratic family had a few dozen nuclear bombs squirreled away in the basement for a rainy day.

The age of stealth bombers carrying bunker-buster bombs is a new wrinkle. The threat of them has great value, but obviously not enough by itself to get renegade states like Iran to shelve their nuclear programs. As we now know, the use of them has immense value, thanks to Donald Trump's boldness and thirst for peace in the world. Those six or eight bombs that took out Iran's nuclear program for the next twenty years may have saved ten million human lives.

Jaq বলেছেন...

"It would be terrible if Russia's power grid was to go down. Then the next day their railways. Then the next day their air traffic control."

So you are proposing total war against a country with 6,000 nuclear weapons, including nuclear powered drone torpedoes that could hit DC or LA or NYC if launched from under the Polar Ice Cap?

It's a bold strategy, Cotton!

But, just maybe, the Russians are thinking that post a nuclear war, Eurasia is not going to dominated by a country on the other side of the ocean from both side, licking its own wounds, and Russia and China can have Eurasia for themselves.

That's always a possibility. People feel like once the nukes are used, the game is over, but is it really? What would the Celts have suffered to drive the Romans back to Italy?

Jaq বলেছেন...

Russia is eleven time zones, and we are going to shut down their grid. What would that do, say it was possible? It would cause nuclear melt downs, since the plants need a supply of conventional power to cool the reactor, if it is shut down.

I am sure that if we see meltdowns across Russia, they would think twice about striking back.

Total recklessness.

Jaq বলেছেন...

The reason for all of this noise about shutting down Russia's grid is that despite buwaya's reassurance that the Ukrainian grid is safe, a lot of people are predicting that the grid there is about to collapse, and this noise coming from the usual sources is just kind of a reverse style confirmation of that.

Still haven't gotten to the last Ukrainian, so they should not make peace.

Jaq বলেছেন...

"They know that any attempt to hit the Europeans in the same way would be a blatant act of war"

Shutting down Russia's ports with missile attacks would not be a blatant act of war. Got it. The frog already jumped out of the pot, so this tactic of slowly raising the temperature has already exhausted its utility.

One constant:
Only Putin’s sympathizers talk up nuclear war.

Peace talks usually only comes about in these wars of attrition when both sides see no path to victory and the cost of continuing the war mounts. Then the peace broker can step in to good effect. We are just seeing that play out in Gaza.Ukraine is ready but Trump has a lot more to do to get Russia into that mindset. A loss of only 20% of oil capacity is not sufficient. Another 20-30% of capacity destroyed will probably be needed.

Jaq বলেছেন...

"Only Putin’s sympathizers talk up nuclear war."

So does Chorus really pay you to talk up the idea that we can goad Russia as much as we want, up to and including destroying their ports, and only babies worry about an escalating war coming out of that, a war that can go nuclear with a miscalculation on either side?

Only morons think that we can salami slice our way into a regime change in Russia and they will never draw a line and say, "we may as well have this war now, while Europe is not ready, and while Israel is burning up the US's weapons inventory, and while Trump is obsessed with taking Taiwan from China.
