"On a recent evening in the north of Iran’s capital of Tehran, a young woman with long hair fashioned into a high ponytail hopped onto a motorcycle behind a male companion."
Not far away, two other young women smoked cigarettes together on a sidewalk, one with her hair cascading down her back, the other wearing a loose T-shirt with elbow-length sleeves... . These urban scenes... illustrate how common it has recently become for Iranian women to flout the law, in place for over four decades, requiring they cover their hair and dress modestly in public."From "Iranian women flout law on mandatory veiling as police curtail arrests/Defiance of hijab requirements has grown widespread across Iran. The government seems wary of cracking down, fearing unrest. But conservatives haven’t given up" (WaPo).

"conservatives" lol.
These are radical Islamic males who live and breathe to hate Jews and subjugate women. It's all about the power.
Liberals adopted the hijab as a symbol of progress in the woke of the Persian Spring.
Kudos to the intrepid reporter. The regime has a habit of arresting western reporters as spies.
Say what you want, but the churches are empty and the mosques are full.
"Trump has broken the Fundamentalist Ratchet."
Interesting. Conservatives here absolutely want women in Iran doing these very things and absolutely oppose forced wearing of hijabs happening here.
Can Dems here say that? People in Dearborn are listening.
Keep women affordable, available, reusable, and taxable. And the burden of evidence sequestered under a hijab. But can they discern a difference in the sexes or are they prone to liberal transitions and simulations?
Supporting this is how you defeat the Iranian regime.
American conservativism is Pro-Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happines without Diversity (i.e. class-disorderedideologies). Choices matter. #HateLovesAbortion
Iran is returning to a pre-Carter nation under a king who favored a conservative society and modern ethos. Afghanistan in part, in whole, was once a first-world nation, too.
Good. It means sharia law is breaking down.
Khamenei don’t like it
Rockin’ teh Tehran
Rockin’ teh Tehran
People in Dearborn are listening.
Indeed, they are listening:

The author of this "article" lives in Washington DC. She is likely a Deep State Democrat embed in the media. She does not live, and has not traveled, to Iran recently (this article is not by-lined in Iran. It is by-lined in Washington DC). She does not have a journalism degree.
She has no idea what is happening with the hip chicks in Iran.
See Italy/Rome when dominated by the Catholic Church. Consider that Venice as the Las Vegas party town of its day, and churches required that people take off their party masks when they attended services.
State religions tend to be pyrrhic victories over the local organic culture.
Before the Shah was overthrown, Teheran was a very cosmopolitan place. Maybe young people are hearing about that from their grandparents.
She has no idea what is happening with the hip chicks in Iran.
Shorter WAPO: "My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw some woman outside while uncovered in North Tehran near 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious."
time for lesson ...
Iranian women flout law and taunt regime to flaunt its law
"But conservatives having given up."
Iranian conservative opinion aligns perfectly with the Inga-wing of our Democrats, which is nearly all of them except Federman.
In other news, Israelis are chafing under their strict sabbath laws, with "Commercial businesses being banned from opening on Shabbat in 89% of Jewish authorities, 8.5% allow for obtaining a special permit, and 2.5% do not restrict commercial activity.
Of the 2,913 active bus lines in the country, 284 (10%) run on Shabbat. Among those, 210 operate frequently and 74 run only shortly after the start of Shabbat and shortly before it ends."
In defiance of the law shopping malls and other entertainment centers are staying open. Per Jerusalem Times.
As we used to before mammon replaced God
As for women in Iran. Good for them, but bottom line is its up to them to fight for their rights. Don't ask Uncle sam to go kill Iranians because you want to show your pony-tail in public.
Its amazing how "normies" always lap up this "Hate country X" propaganda. This is usually followed by "We need to bomb invade those Goddamn Xers" and "OMG, we can't let those Goddamn Xers invade Poor little Y." Followed by - "We need to lets Xers refugees into the USA". And ending with " The Xers are out friends now. Isn't that wonderful?"
Just back from physical therapy. I hope the story is true, but you can count me with the commentators who question whether anyone writing for the Post has the slightest knowledge about anything that’s going on anywhere in Iran.
Yes theres no one at the bezos who could honestly report
Before carters concern iran was a normal country then he enabled the rise of khomeinj
"She does not have a journalism degree."
You say that like it's a bad thing.
She comes from propublica thats worse
Conservatives that Progs love. It's a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world.
peachy said...
"conservatives" lol.
Indeed. Conservatives conserve. What are the mullahs conserving?
4 millennia of Persian history and culture? Certainly not. Like communists everywhere else, they discouraged expressions of the national (not state) history.
Over a millennium of Islamic history in Persia/Iran? Again, no. A simple set of before and after pictures of the 1979 revolution will disprove that. They certainly tore down Chesterton’s Fence there.
So what are they conserving in any meaningful, principled way?
Islamic hegemonists closer to the term
They dont want liberalism in iran isnt it curious but they want in central and west africa
It's telling that the women are kept covered up, but the goats are naked.
I seem to recall being told that Muslim women kept covered because they wanted to.
I would describe them as fundamentalists rather than conservatives, unless the goal is to associate the idea of conservatism with oppression. (Who am I kidding, of course it is.)
Ghotzbadeh, bagoh20, Ghotzbadeh.
The reporter sounds like a headline writer for the Babylon Bee. Recent samples: "Man Breaks Down Sobbing As He Admits To Cashier He Is Not A Walgreens Rewards Member" and "Man Achieves Lifelong Dream Of Being In Boarding Group 2."
In other news, Israelis are chafing under their strict sabbath laws, with "Commercial businesses being banned from opening on Shabbat...."
We had 'blue laws' in this country for most of its history. Hardly the same thing as being told what to wear (and with severe punishments for violations).
I hope Iranian women can do a better job with liberation than women of the West. Learn from their mistakes.
The mullahs are not "conservatives," they are religious fundamentalist extremists.
Funny how nobody in this thread reacted to the Iranian Dress laws with "Well, the USA used to arrest women if they showed too much leg or bosum in public. So there."
But the Israeli supporters go straight to the "you too" argument. Never defend, always counter-attack.
Blue laws were in effect until the 60s
"She does not have a journalism degree."
Well then, that's final, isn't it?
Blue laws were in effect in Texas in 1983, preventing sale of groceries other than food items before noon on Sundays. I once watched this play out one Sunday around 10am in our local College Station Albertsons Grocery checkout line. A disheveled and angry mother, with a squalling brat held in one arm and a bag of Pamper held in the other, said to the check out clerk,"Hell YES Pampers are a food item because I either pay for these and walk out with 'em right damn now or I'll make you eat them." The clerk rang her up without another word. Blue laws, keeping the world civil at least until the 1980s.,
See, the difference in the USA and Iran shown via the above example is that in the USA the clerk used common sense and human decency, whereas in Iran the woman would have been publicly beaten by the males in the store, and then privately beaten more by morality police, and then beaten more by her husband or brothers or father. See the difference?
Yo, RC--the WaPo piece is not in any way about Israel.
You have a real problem. Get help.
"You have a real problem."
Let me guess- it's the Jooooooos.
Like the hamas killers
Typical zionist response. No defense of Israel or their actions. Or any rebuttal to any criticism, no matter how mild. Instead, name calling and attacks. Smart. Dumbos never notice. Good propaganda technique.
Zionists may be immoral and have no guts, but they are smart.
The word "conservative" is doing some heavy lifting in that sentence.
"… a young woman with long hair fashioned into a high ponytail hopped onto a motorcycle…”
That’s Lazlo bait right there.
Nobody hates Iran, RCOCEAN. They hate the 8th century Islamic death cult running it. Big difference.
“She's flouting society's conventions! That's totally inappropriate. It's lewd, lascivious, salacious, outrageous!”
