Gavin Newsom acts like he thinks Joe Rogan is a right-wing tough guy who's afraid to get into a punching match with a well-trained liberal like Gavin. I'm almost certain Newsom is bullshitting and that he'd reposition himself and act like a cool person who loves having fun if he genuinely wanted to work out an appearance on the show, but I don't know if he really wants to take that risk.
Reread that quote from Gavin. Why does he keep saying he's "punching" and why is he calling other people "sons-o'-bitches"? To me, he sounds scared. And he's certainly not the sort of person who could say I love people. I love hanging out. I love having fun. I love meeting people that are fun. I love it.

He's made too many self-owning mistakes to make it without the family support, and he doesn't really have political instincts or leadership-quality ideas on his own. The Pelosi's are dynasty in California.

Newsom, like most Democrats, has zero self-awareness. Maybe even less than zero. As in, their self-awareness flips into the opposite side of the spectrum of what they think they are. That's exactly it. They have negative self-awareness.

It would be interesting to see how Newsom would do with Joe Rogan. Newsom appeared on Adam Carolla's podcast in 2013, and it was a useful view into the denial, gaslighting, and obfuscation that has become the norm in California politics. Newsom portrayed the typical homeless situation as the mom who was laid off and living out of her car rather than someone with drug problems or mental health issues. The discussion about why some groups are doing better than others at 54:00 is interesting, too. Worth listening to the whole thing to see what has changed and what hasn't.

Newsom sounds a little like Biden. No awkward pauses, but the same insecurity, combativeness and fake toughness. I suppose there's some overlap with Trump's boastfulness, but what strikes me is that the professional politicians Biden and Newsom come from safe states, so they can live in their own fantasy worlds and maintain their illusions intact without having them challenged.

I don't know if he sounds "scared" to me. I mean for politicians generally. But since the Democrat side has adopted "Do what thou wilt" (narciso, your overnight link was very interesting) with a veneer of public show of morality as their platform, there's no limiter on them. Republican politicians still have checks on their behavior thanks to the actual sentiments of their voters, no matter how many "the villain was the evil CEO and/or corporation, not the brave, scrappy little NGO" tv shows get made.

But Joe Rogan would be factually correct in stating that, "Gavin Newsom lacks the essentials to be a guest on my show." As a self proclaimed "puncher" , Newsom is no better than a boxer qualified for the third undercard in a match in a tank town. Elmer Fudd could whip him.
Joe Rogan doesn't let people use his show for their own purposes. He built this platform from nothing, and he's not about to give it away -- to anyone.
It's clear Newsom is interested in Rogan's audience, not Joe himself. As far as Gavin is concerned, his appearance is an opportunity to get combative with Joe, and possibly lower his stature, rather than enjoy Joe's company and get to know him as a real person.

In response to Texas, California has redistricting on the ballot. We already voted against it in the past. Dems have 3 or 4 times the Yes on 50 commercials that the No on 50 people.

Newsom wants Joe to help make him the leading Dem candidate for President in 2028.
