That happened at yesterday's White House Press Briefing. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt answered:
"I think the president was serious. I think president wants to get to heaven as I hope we all do in this room as well."
Trump's quote was the title of yesterday's post: "I want to get to heaven if possible. I'm hearing I'm not doing well. I hear I'm at the bottom of the totem pole. If I can get to heaven, this will be one of the reasons." Video of Trump saying all that at the link.
Was he serious? The question is how serious?
Was Mary Margaret Olohan serious — seriously hoping that he was serious?
I tend to think yes. She's at The Daily Wire. At Instagram, she calls herself Catholic. She stuck her neck out to ask the question, and she seemed to want to delve, at least a little, into the subject of God and peacemaking. Was Karoline Leavitt serious? She wears that cross around her neck. You can see the text of her answer, but if you watch the video, you'll see she's very crisp and perky, giving one of those you-can't-trick-me answers and moving right along. That was smart and professional.
But I really want to talk about the role of religious beliefs, expressed honestly, in a peacemaking conversation. In the comments on yesterday's post, I asked: "In the 3 hours when Trump and Putin spoke to each other, do you think they talked seriously about religious beliefs?"
Did they? Should they? There are 3 hours. How real does it get in 3 hours?
I noticed that when Putin first arrived in Alaska, he connected what he was doing to religion, to Russian religion. From the transcript of his remarks: "Alaska has to do with our common heritage, common history between Russia and the U.S., and many positive events have to do with that territory. Still, there is tremendous cultural heritage, back from the Russian America, for example, Orthodox churches...."
There are Russian Orthodox churches in Alaska — left from the Russian colonial days. "That territory" was once Russia's, and now the war is over territory that Putin believes — sincerely? — is still Russia's. Did the 2 men, in 3 hours, not talk about beliefs?

It's eating your brain.”
I suspect there’s not much there in the way of sustenance.
“I am talking about COVID when they were used to enforce curfews.
You are so dishonest.”
Here is what you said…
“Tim Walz actually deployed the National Guard.
They were authorized to shoot, and shot at American citizens who were merely on their porches.”
Where did you mention Covid?
A news report about the National Guard in Minneapolis shooting live rounds at people because they were in a car driving towards a checkpoint.
Tim Walz deployed the National Guard to block travel inside Minnesota where they literally set up blockades and they shot at people who were doing nothing other than driving.
Retards who are saying stupid shit about Trump using the NG to clean up crime are going to find this embarrassing.
Over 200 comments.
But I'm just here to say that I have no opinion on the original matter that hasn't been well said by someone else, and that I am not rhhardin.
Carry on.

I'll bet they won't.
The left trash everything... and then skip on by... with more lies and denials, layered so thick - it takes a shovel.
Your pathetic political party DEMANDED defunding the Police - and in many cases - DID defund the police.
Boulder City council voted to Defund the police at the time.
Democrats certainly made life hell for police - assuming the worst in all of them. All of it lead to the high crime we are all dealing with now. Biden was the perfect hollow-puppet - orchestrating low moral behavior.
And the reason for my bet is many of those people were in favor of denying medical care to anyone who refused to get the covid shot. So they clearly have no problem with people dying, if it's the right sort of people who are doing it.
Is his name really "Randy Manner?" Really?
What are dems at? 19% approval. That's seems high.
Achilles, Walz didn’t send in the National Guard just because of Covid. It was during the George Floyd rioting time. But you’re proving to me why it’s a slippery slope to deploy the National Guard in cities as an authoritarian display of might shutting down a city to flex one’s muscles is not the correct use of the National Guard. Remember Trump praised Walz for his use of the National Guard.
Inga--Has DC been "shut down?" Name one non-criminal establishment or enterprise that has been "shut down" by the NG deployment.
The purpose of the deployment is to control crime so that the residents and businesses can flourish. It appears to be accomplishing that.
DC is fully operational, unless you are a criminal. Even then, Democrats are allowed to go about their normal activities in Congress.
When the left says that preventing crime is "shutting down" a city, think about what they're telling you.
Merchants and restaurants in Washington D.C. are complaining that their businesses are losing customers due to the deployment of National Guard troops.
Details
“Reservations in D.C. restaurants have decreased significantly since the National Guard deployment began, with OpenTable data showing a nearly 25% drop across the district.
Some business owners report that their sales have fallen by as much as 50%.

Is anyone else amused to see Inga suddenly come out as "I'm opposed to higher taxes!"? And to suddenly not want government enforcing the laws? All while she has spent years demanding higher taxes and using the National Guard to shoot anyone who dares resist Democrat Govenors. She was cheering on the use of the National Guard to force people to get the shot and to socially distance.
Of course she also fully endorsed Democrats being able to ignore the social distancing rules and mingle. Rules and laws are for the plebs, not important people like Democrats!
See- skip on by.
the Democrat party destroyed our nation with crime.
Now - cleaning it up is going to be messy - & you sad white leftist females... have nothing but ankle biting. Really - do f off.
Name one, Inga. Find an actual business owner who says this.
Video evidence indicates that Subway is open for business and doing just fine.
“I'm opposed to higher taxes!"?”
Indeed I am against increasing taxes on average income Americans. Tariffs aren’t being “eaten” by the American importers, the tariffs are causing food prices to raise even more. You all ok with that?
The rest of your comment is your typical nuttery. Not worth responding to.
The evidence that arresting out of control criminal activity is aiding in the healing process - will be smothered by the Soviet Democratic Media Industrial Complex.
It's cute that people think there is a possibility that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin actually believe in a G_d who hangs his art in heaven.
Achilles, again the National Guard was not deployed JUST a BECAUSE of Covid. This was during the time of the riots. There was a curfew enforced because of the civil unrest.
“Did Walz enforce curfew just for Covid with the National Guard?
No, Governor Walz did not enforce curfews exclusively for COVID-19.
He implemented a nighttime curfew in Minneapolis and St. Paul in May 2020 in response to unrest following the death of George Floyd. The aim was to restore peace and order, allowing the cities to rebuild and address the underlying issues of systemic inequities and discrimination.
While Walz did implement restrictions on late-night social life during the pandemic, including a 10 p.m. closing time for bars and restaurants, this was a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19, not a full curfew restricting movement. He urged individuals to take personal responsibility for controlling the virus by wearing masks, social distancing, and staying home when feeling unwell.”

Both are approaching the end and they know it. This has a way of putting certain questions front and center.
I am honestly curious why you think there is no possibility they do.
I think both men are thinking about legacy and what happens when they die. More than a little bit.
Classic Inga: "You caught me, so I'll deflect and just call it nuttery! That way I don't have to respond!"
Tariff's on food? Why not? America grows more than enough food, so why do you want to subsidize Thailand rice or something?
It's funny how now Inga and the left scream about possible inflation, but inflation over the last 4 years was just fine and preferred for them.
“Online reservation data from OpenTable showed seated-diner bookings in Washington, D.C., dropped 16 percent on the day Trump announced the federalization of the Metropolitan Police Department compared with the same date in 2024.
Two days later, bookings had dropped to 31 percent compared to last year. As of August 16, the most recent entry in the dataset, reservations were down 20 percent in the city.
Reservations in the nation's largest 20 cities generally increased in August compared with 2024, making the D.C. decline notable and localized.

The Guard was shooting at everyone when Walz deployed them.
The Guard is supporting police and helping them round up criminals when Trump deploys them.
The point I am proving is that any weapon can be used for good or evil and in this case I support using the NG to end the squalor and criminal filth that infested DC.
The only point you are proving is that you are a disgusting amoral hypocrite without a single principle you retain other than a will to power over other people.

So I take it you support setting taxes on all US businesses to the same level as tariffs before Trump?
Can we have a national income tax and corporate tax of 1% to 3%? I am all for it. Lets do this.
Or are you only concerned about your multinational oligarchs?
We all know you only care about Soros and his friends and their ability to get rich importing shit they made in China while American businesses and workers pay all of the taxes.
The rest of your comment is your typical nuttery. Not worth responding to
When you look to the right on the IQ curve you can see about 20 points. Everything past that looks crazy.
For Inga that means everything to the right of 95 looks like "typical nuttery" and she couldn't muster a response if she wanted to.
Matthew 5:9

TOTEM POLE? Wut? Was this a malapropism, or just a slip ot the tongue, for the Biblical Jacob's Ladder? Sure, speak of heaven all you want, but it seems Trump is communing with the Great Spirit here rather than Jahweh.
"He notes that the guard is not trained in "policing actions," like the Metropolitan Police and other officers"
They're MPs and probably about half or more of them are police officers when they aren't being deployed.
But Inga does present reasons why she thinks Trump's policies have negative consequences. But Ronald J. Ward just says, "Orange Man Bad" basically.
Boatbuilder, et al, thanks for at least owning the position rather than pretending the policies don’t exist. That’s a step forward.
But “prove they don’t work” flips the burden. If tariffs, deportations, and military deployments are “working spectacularly,” then show how—because the data shows higher consumer costs, labor shortages in key industries, Guard troops patrolling cities with declining crime rates and law abiding people being rounded up by a masked police force without warrants and being disappeared. Those are facts.
My point hasn’t been that you can’t support them—it’s that support doesn’t erase consequences. These consequences, in my opinion and from my experience, are realties some people simply refuse to accept. Fox News comes to mind- they started telling the Basket of Gulibles what they didn’t want to hear so the Gulibles tuned into Newsmax. So Fox reverted back to grooming the cult with lies to win them back. That’s not exactly an opinion because Fox was busted in the most spectacular way and owned up to it under oath.
My point of Fox is that a certain faction of people will not entertain any facts, data or news reports that points to the destruction o Trump’s policies. And they will dismiss those facts as fake news when presented.
There are, regardless of your refusal to accept, alarm bells going off both economically and constitutionally. Calling for me to “shut up” doesn’t answer those cracks.
I am going to have to screenshot this thread because it is guaranteed that at some point in the future a Democrat President and Congress is going to want to raise taxes on corporations and Inga will try to deny that such taxes get passed on to consumers.
the left... after 4 years of democrat NGO insider money wasting and money printing and off the charts inflation during Crook Joe - are suddenly concerned about inflation.
Totem pole? Wut? Maybe he meant the bottom rung of Jacob's Ladder, or the lowest riser and tread on the Stairway to Heaven, but Trump is culturally appropriating the Great Spirit here, not Jahweh or sweet baby Jesus, and maybe he is jokingly humblebragging about his efforts to end a war.
Didn't Walz have the national guard drive around Minneapolis shooting people with paint balls if they were sitting on their porches?

Such honesty should be rewarded. I have a sticker here somewhere. Is it OK if it says, "Ruger" ? It's the only one I have.
There is no path to ending the war until there is a path to ending a war.

"General Randy Manner" sounds like a Monty Python character, sort of a cross between the naughty vicar and the repellent fop.

Twould be an honor. Send it care of the Prof and she can bring it when she and Meade visit Beale Street.

When was that ever the case? Certainly this was never true in New York City.
