can't do. For now, he's doing it anyway. Those who want to preserve their dignity after leaning hard into "There's only so much he can do" have a big stake in the litigation. We're still in the middle of things.
And here's the key line from Trump's March 4, 2025 address to Congress: "The media and our friends in the Democrat party kept saying we needed new legislation, we must have legislation to secure the border. But it turned out that all we really needed was a new President."
If the President wants to do something, he'll push the boundaries of power. If he doesn't, he'll see those boundaries where they justify his inaction.

The Biden Administration claimed they needed a seriously flawed piece of legislation to control illegal immigration. Trump is actively enforcing existing law. Are the lawyers going to claim that the existing law isn't legal, or that Orange Man Bad is a meanie for actually enforcing it?

Curious that so many people arrived at the border with phones and clean shoes. Most of the illegal entrants did not walk across Mexico. They were brought in on planned caravans. Recall also - the government removed boundaries and barriers. ooo and recall the ICE agent on a horse who was falsely accused of whipping people. He did no such thing.

While many suits have been filed on other issues, I am not aware of any regarding the border. What is a court going to do to stop him? Tell him he does not have the authority to keep people from illegally entering the US? Ridiculous.
The idea that the POTUS has to get the approval of every single one of the 1000 district judges to enforce the border is insane. But that's what is going on. Its an open invitation for Leftwing Lawfare. But that's what we have. And I hope Trump tries to change it, no matter what the pearl clutching moderates say.

The next time an Obama or Biden district judge tries to impose a nationwide order, I think it's time for Trump to announce that he will obey the order within that judge's district, totally ignore it elsewhere, ask the Supreme Court to intervene if they see fit, and explicitly tell Congress to try impeaching him for it if they dare.

I'll add to Peachy's comment. I had a video by Ben Shapiro from the Darien Gap where he described the scene. Clean Nikes and sweats along with new backpacks. They were accompanied by porta potties, medical tents as well as meals on wheels sort of food and water trucks. He estimated the cost of this traveling show @ a couple million a week for the thousands.

For decades there’s been a pipe dream called “Comprehensive Immigration Reform”. Biden et al just tried another approach to get what they wanted from that Bill - flooding the country with illegals. Once a few million were “safely” inside, the ok to work on the Bill happened.

It has always been absurd for Democrats to say we needed legislation to control our borders. Since when? Their biggest malfunction was allowing people to claim asylum. The treaty controlling asylum claims specifically stated one had to claim asylum in the country they first came to. Since we only have borders with Canada and Mexico, these are the only countries where people could claim asylum. Everyone else needs to go back. Period.
During Trump's 1st term, a B I I G!!! issue was the "border wall". Trump's argument was that we needed more physical barriers against illegal immigration. OK by me.
Now do we need something different, something more? If we FINISH THE WALL will that solve the problem?

If the President doesn't want to do something, he'll pretend that he lacks power to do it. Though, I think that's over-generous. Obama was sued for not enforcing immigration laws and the Supreme Court came back with something along the lines of, 'if you don't like it, impeach him".
