Progressives SET Zelensky up. It backfired. One of them is probably who Zelensky called from the Limousine when he got kicked out of the White House.
"Before meeting Trump, Zelensky met with anti-Trump Democrats who advised him to reject the terms of the mineral deal the president was offering, according to Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.).

@Political Junkie: "I wonder if R or C women are more accepting of what they have, and D and L women focus more on what they do not have."
Leftism focuses on change and the perceived need for justice or a revolution. It's inherently about negative feeling and taking active measures. Those who've settled down (e.g., raising children) focus on stability and continuity.
My main takeaway from Ukraine and Zelensky is that the Russian invasion put to bed Europe's post-WW2 pacifism and its denial of the need for military spending.
While Biden and NATO ridiculously pushed on a string in fighting Russia at its front door and in regions with strong Russian support, Trump stepping aside forces Europe to stand on their own feet. In a generation we'll likely have four global Great Powers instead of the three we have today.

Isn’t this traitorous? Murphy is a crazy stupid idiot to admit this!
@wildswan: "- Government workers asked to explain what they do, a revealing horror ensues"
I am a fierce critic of the federal employment system and have witnessed horrifying laziness and exploitations of federal rules. I've worked for a long time to improve this stuff and have gone on record about specific bad employees. Long ago I said that fewer federal employees would result in better and faster service. Still, Musk's initial "5 things" email had multiple problems and revealed more about DOGE's ignorance than about federal employees.
1. The email message was written EXACTLY like the samples of fraudulent phishing emails presented to federal employees and contractors for required training year in, year out. They are told to not respond to external requests without official letterheads, without confirmation of the intended email address, without a clear purpose, and with a quick deadline. This follows from literally thousands of attempts to hack and phish government email systems every day and many cases where employees have given away sensitive information. This is part of what "national security" means, and why the military and intelligence agencies strongly resisted the request.
2. The message came from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). OPM employs mostly clueless HR people who process job applications and store personnel records. They are technical bumblers with the skills typical of the Post Office. For example, OPM lost millions of very sensitive security clearance files in 2015 and truly cannot be trusted to keep data safe (see the resistance in bullet #1 above).
3. OPM is a secondary data source that sits on the rump end of personnel actions. While job announcements go through OPM, actual hiring and separations happen first in the agencies where people work (not OPM as the HR agency). The data gaps in OPM's records may not ever be resolved per 30, 60, or 90 day lags in updating their rump-end systems. In addition, some agencies have jobs where rapid email replies are impossible (e.g., foreign, ship-based, field offices, undercover, etc.). While Musk and DOGE likely thought they received the keys to the kingdom for understanding the federal workforce with OPM's records, they actually received out-of-date data mush.
4. OPM maintains a bunch of job descriptions (link below), but as known by any technical or scientific employee who's ever gone through a painful 15-minute screening interview with a 24-year-old HR intern, HR staff do not understand big words or any technical material. Sending a list of "5 things" to OPM's intellectual children (or DOGE's clearly inexperienced team) stands to produce data subject to gross misinterpretations.
" "Before meeting Trump, Zelensky met with anti-Trump Democrats who advised him to reject the terms of the mineral deal the president was offering, according to Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.).”
This wasn't done for the benefit of the United States. It wasn't even done for the benefit of Ukraine. This was done for the benefit of these particular politicians. Fucking traitors.
@john mosby: "What would have been a good execution of the idea?"
From reporting, their second effort (this week) seems to correct the problems. The new 5 things messages are said to be coming from each agency head on agency letterhead and as explicit requests. Responses will go to direct supervisors (who 99.9% of the time already know current staff tasking) and up to agency management (who may indeed by out of touch).
Those who are unable to respond (e.g., on leave, undercover, out of email range, in sensitive foreign locales) are fully known per the standard operating procedures and assignments of each agency.
Enigma: thanks for the response on how to do the 5-things email better.
I still think there was a lot of benefit in doing the first one from OPM. The shock/awe factor of smashing the silos, and forcing middle management in the agencies to become part of the plan. And provoking reactions like yours, which boil down to "You can't manage personnel here! This is the Office of Personnel Management!"
That first email was very well publicized as an official request. There was no excuse not to reply. It’s then up to DOGE/OPM/Agency leaders to review the responses and non-responses and categorize all of them appropriately by agency. That’s why they sent the request.
@john mosby: I've worked with a variety of agencies. Some of them are terrible and some of them are solid. The culture gets set and they can continue in a good or bad fashion for decades (or even centuries with military units). OPM SUCKS. OPM SUCKS. OPM SUCKS. Putting a nominal "government efficiency" label on OPM is akin to asking a Starbucks barista for guidance on nuclear power.
The shock and awe was shock that DOGE violated decades of email security rules and prosecution. Until a week ago, employees would have been fired for responding to that kind of message. See Hillary's home email server and years of Republican attacks.
@Breezy: "That first email was very well publicized as an official request."
No. Trump's people sent out a dozen simultaneously contradictory instructions. OPM itself sent a message last Monday, February 24 on official letterhead saying "response is voluntary" and "If you choose to respond..."
The biggest question I have about the whole affair is with the video of the fired workers carrying the file boxes out if the building- how did they manage to find four people to pretend to be actual workers and sneak in a back with some healthy looking plants to walk out the front to seem like they cleared their desks off? They had a week or two to plan I suppose and I guess only lawyers would be available and ‘trustworthy’ enough for the pretending. Somewhere some agency didn’t spend this quarter’s allocation…
I watched Carolla return to Malibu and his condo. The destruction is sobering. I’m wondering if the Malibu cachet will survive or other tony hamlets will have to absorb the elitism?
@Enigma, the email request and purpose was well publicized. Employees that didn’t respond had their reasons, but it couldn’t be due to confusion. Granted, there was an initial shock which required a half a day to absorb…. The agency leaders would’ve had to provide guidance as well, perhaps unique to the agency, given the uproar.
Melissa the Hopeful🏠Homemaker @BiblicalBeauty · Feb 28 Never has Trump revealed himself so clearly to be literally Hitler as when he keeps bullying people into peace against their will.
One of the cool behind-the-scenes things about Top Gun: Maverick is that a Chinese company (Tencent) was an early investor in the movie. And they wanted the Taiwan flag and Japanese flag that was on Maverick's leather jacket in the first Top Gun movie removed. And the filmmakers were like, okay, we'll do that.
So they shot the movie, and there was no Taiwan flag or Japanese flag on Maverick's leather jacket in the teaser trailer.
And then Tencent pulled their funding.
Here's the cool part: the artists got so pissed at this, they spent a million dollars (or more) to digitally put the Taiwan flag and the Japanese flag back on the leather jacket. They not only spent a million of their own money to do this, they let go of the China market completely.
I think I read Woodward's book on Belushi when it came out, but I don't remember much of anything about it. It was negative on Belushi, a kind of dark portrayal if I remember right.
Murray torches Woodward in that interview. He had no sources who knew anything. But he wrote the book anyway.
The only Woodward book I've read cover to cover is The Brethren. And I always thought that book was true. It's Bob Woodward! And now I wonder how much was complete bullshit.
It was said in the book that Thurgood Marshall would watch soap operas in his office, when he should have been working. I thought that was funny, and I enjoyed getting that dirt on an uppity up. Let's his clerks do all the work while he goofs off.
Now we know that Potter Stewart was the primary source for the whole book. And I wonder how much of that book is just Potter Stewart bullshit. Potter Stewart is the dummy who defined pornography as "I know it when I see it."
I remember several Supreme Court Justices were furious when the book came out, especially about the claim that Marshall was lazy and his clerks wrote his opinions.
There is some good journalism in the book. Woodward's book is invaluable, especially for stuff like finding that memo when Harry Blackmun admitted his proposed abortion rules were "arbitrary."
But a lot of it is just hearsay. Woodward repeating some Potter Stewart gossip.
It would have been funny if every judge confronted with a pornography prosecution called up Potter Stewart and said, "I might have some pornography here, Potter. I need you to take a look at it."
"Hey Potter, let me play this Lenny Bruce recording for you. Do you know it when you hear it, or just when you see it?"
"Hey Potter, I got a finger fucker here. That's just third base, right? Is third base okay? Let me describe it for you. It's a middle finger and an index finger. Two fingers. Wait, wait. Three fingers. Do you need to see it, see it, or can I describe it to you? Call me back."
Zelensky understands very well that Russia only keeps a promise when it's in its own interests. So I wonder why he didn't know that Europe only keeps it's promises when it's in its own interest? And I wonder why he didn't know that the Europeans have not been keeping their promises to the US to build a real military? And I wonder why he thought the French androgynes would join the French army if the French Army was in combat?
I'm sure Zelensky knows that his Army has chewed up the Russian Army, depleting its manhood so that now the North Koreans are doing the fighting; and he knows his Army has depleted Russian weapon stocks including weapons stored since World War II. And he knows his Army has tested military tactics for the 21st century such as the use of cheap off the shelf drones. And Zelensky knows that the American and European people are aware of all this (NOT)and are grateful. (NOT) He knows the Ukrainians have made it much, much less likely that the Russians will attack Europe and so, he knows that the Europeans will increase their spending on the military and take the pressure off the Ukrainians. Oh, yes, indeed.
Zelensky knows that everyone knows the Ukranians have been heroes like Jan Sobieski and Don John of Austria. Famous heroes just like them. And with a great battle cry: Ave, Europe, we who are about to die salute you.
Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) claimed Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that the White House under the second Trump administration has become an “arm of the Kremlin.”
Zelensky might have asked himself whether there was anyone to end his countiry's long agony? And if there was such a one, would it be a corrupt US splinter group which benefitted from and covered up the corruption in his own country? Or would it have been a new man representing a new force?
"The shock and awe was shock that DOGE violated decades of email security rules and prosecution. Until a week ago, employees would have been fired for responding to that kind of message."
If you're not sure an email is legitimate, you contact your supervisor for guidance. If you think it's a hacking attempt, you report it to your IT department. What you don't do is go on social media and bitch about it.
And continue bitching about it once it's confirmed that the email is legit.
After seeing how badly federal workers responded to this, I'd be happy to see more of them fired.
I've been complaining about the AP style book and the way they dictate to the media how to speak about unborn children (fetus), the pro-life movement (anti-abortion), and black people (Black people).
Add one more to the list...
The AP style guide hates the term USA. No media outlet ever uses the acronym USA. You know the chant at the Olympics? "USA! USA!" The AP style guide hates it. And no newspaper uses it now.
What they use now is US.
It's aways US, never USA. If a reporter writes "USA," the editor will fix it and change it to "US."
Some moron leftist at the AP style guide thinks it is evil and wrong to add the word "America" to "United States." And so it must be US, and never USA.
The Associated Press has spoken, and they all follow, from the NYT to the WaPo to Sports Illustrated and Playboy and everybody else. Brainless and anti-American, not a good combination.
"I remember several Supreme Court Justices were furious when the book came out, especially about the claim that Marshall was lazy and his clerks wrote his opinions." *************
I've heard that Marshall had a bladder problem, resulting in his clerks quietly referring to him as "The Dark Incontinent".

Looking at the full header of a message tells you if it is a valid email address.
Mail from opm.gov is legitimate. Mail that says it is from opm.gov but the header says return path ghert@shady.com or anything other then opm.gov isn't.
Or for a real life example my today's email from Your Amazon Gift, a $500 gift card! Complete with the Amazon logo in the body of the message. All I need to do is click the link and answer a few simple questions! Return path . Reported as junk.
All email services are blocked because a few idiots clicked on such things from their personal email and downloaded viruses onto their work computers. Because some people are idiots I can't check personal email at work, first because I can't open personal email on my work computer, and second because I literally cannot read email on phone because my aging eyes can't focus. So even if it's something important I'm expecting- gotta wait until I get home.
And my point still stands. If you are unsure about an email you receive at work, you ask your boss or the IT department about it, you don't go on social media to complain.
BTW- many of the social media complaints were of the "Musk has no right!" sort, so clearly, those complainers were not confused about who sent the message.

When Karl Rove, Don Bacon, Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger and John Bolton oppose what happened in meeting between Zelensky and President Trump.
That’s how you know President Trump is right.
Zelensky must have a lot of dirt on the various people who are standing by him. I can’t imagine Obama-Biden et al are the only ones who involved themselves in the Ukrainian corruption racket.
“ "Before meeting Trump, Zelensky met with anti-Trump Democrats who advised him to reject the terms of the mineral deal the president was offering, according to Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.).”

While I've mostly agreed with Trump 47 and Musk's intentions, their initial 5 things email request was a terrible execution of a good idea.
Enigma: the "initial 5 things email request was a terrible execution of a good idea."
What would have been a good execution of the idea?

" "Before meeting Trump, Zelensky met with anti-Trump Democrats who advised him to reject the terms of the mineral deal the president was offering, according to Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.).”
This wasn't done for the benefit of the United States. It wasn't even done for the benefit of Ukraine. This was done for the benefit of these particular politicians. Fucking traitors.
"In a generation we'll likely have four global Great Powers instead of the three we have today."
Europe doesn't have it in them.
Thanks again - JSM
Did the BLM beach house make it?

Things that I am immune to now:
1) Being called a racist
3) Being told that I must subsidize European socialism
3) Being called a Putin stooge
Words lose their meaning with overuse.
RFK Jr gets it exactly right.

Impressive!
"I know it when I see it but I can't say it out loud or describe it and there are no rules whatsoever. I hope that settles that."
"And Thurgood Marshall is lazy as fuck and you can quote me but don't use my name."
(NOT)
He knows the Ukrainians have made it much, much less likely that the Russians will attack Europe and so, he knows that the Europeans will increase their spending on the military and take the pressure off the Ukrainians. Oh, yes, indeed.
Zelensky knows that everyone knows the Ukranians have been heroes like Jan Sobieski and Don John of Austria. Famous heroes just like them. And with a great battle cry:
Ave, Europe, we who are about to die salute you.
USA! USA! USA!
SNC22. Happy belated blogger night at the cafe.
Is it true that Zelinsky is really that Nigerian prince?
"I remember several Supreme Court Justices were furious when the book came out, especially about the claim that Marshall was lazy and his clerks wrote his opinions."
*************
I've heard that Marshall had a bladder problem, resulting in his clerks quietly referring to him as "The Dark Incontinent".
Ukraine and the UK should tell trump and his wanna be despot players to FUK OFF and finally step up with UK and supply their own protection. Trusting trump as he pulls a crime boss routine of"getting his $$ back" bullshit IS disgusting and embarrasing.Gaslighting Zelenskey as the aggressor here and Putin as the victim is sickening .Both groups have Nukes so you cant play "we got nukes game: dont take many to start the smittereen scenario, The US has not stepped over to the Russian talking points daily and they need to be looked at as not a reilable partner. As I served this country in military 65-72 I am sickened by the bowing to Putin as he is a murderous thug and is playing trump like a fiddle. Respect around the world is diminished in a mere 5 weeks. trump says I trust Putin because we both went through RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA SUCH HORSECRAP, RUSSIAN TALKING POINTS This country is ashamed of the capitulation to a dictator over an allie from the leaders of this country is sickening ronnie RAY GUNS is flipping in his box! Shame on the armchair quarterbacks up in here.Beaucoup DINKY DAU !!

Return path poomin05122545@gmail.com
The arrows at the end ensured it would remain blank.... Lesson learned.
Gospace- you quoted me as writing something I did not write.
That is something you wrote, that I quoted, and replied to.
And my point still stands. If you are unsure about an email you receive at work, you ask your boss or the IT department about it, you don't go on social media to complain.
BTW- many of the social media complaints were of the "Musk has no right!" sort, so clearly, those complainers were not confused about who sent the message.
