An Indlan reporter is given the opportunity to interview the Dalai Lama about a number of things, but chooses to focus on lmmlgratlon to The West and asks...

Reporter: People from Afghanistan or Africa who want to stay in Europe, shouldn't they be allowed to?
Lama: No, Europe… pic.twitter.com/sNE0nVAlHr
People from Afghanistan or Africa who want to stay in Europe, shouldn't they be allowed to? No, Europe will become like Afghanistan or Africa... he he he he he. Like my parents came to The UK from India, that's ok too isn't it? England is small island, 90% become lndian he he he he he he....
It's funny because the Dalai Lama is world-famous as an icon of compassion, and the idea he's openly experiencing as too silly to deserve anything more than giggling is an idea that we in blue America have been made to feel that we must embrace with great seriousness or we will become social pariahs because of our complete lack of compassion.

India is a third-world shithole. Half the population literally craps in the street and wipes their ass with their hand. Go to YouTube and search for the Ganges River and watch a few of those videos if you want to know what Indians are doing to the planet. They should be walled off from us all until they die out.
She's trying to make the DL give her an open borders quote. He's too grounded in reality. good man
What the left calls compassion (and empathy) is the opposite.
They assert without evidence that income disparity is a problem and then compassionately force a solution that would make everyone equally poor.
Compassion - as in the entire leftwing hive not caring one wit that our tax dollars travel to illegals who light people on fire in the subway, and mercilessly kill young women in the park.
Do you EVER contribute anything besides stupidity and bile?
What the left calls 'compassion' is something that makes them feel good, just as it makes everybody else a little more miserable, later - including them.
Yes! I used to care about being politically correct posting on any site. Not any more. I am too old to care if someone calls me names.
… an idea that we in blue America have been made to feel that we must embrace with great seriousness or we will become social pariahs because of our complete lack of compassion.
Does that mean you’re maybe not gonna fall for the lefty peer pressure and start thinking for yourself?
Nah. Never gonna happen. You’re too old and set in your ways, Althouse.
The Dalai Lama saw his country overrun by the Chinese. Of course he respects limits on immigration.
What the left calls compassion is signing some online petition to impress their Facebook friends.
I notice, Old and slow, that you didn't say he was wrong.
What has "compassion" got to do with it? Letting vermin overrun your country is not "compassionate".
Regulated, legal immigration is compassionate. Encouraging desperate people to crash our border en masse is on attack on the rule of law, and is disrespectful to legal immigrants and the citizenry.
It is quite true that there are many jobs performed by the "untouchables" that include going from door to door in the cities picking up the human feces that are laid out on the sidewalk.
One of the particular missions of the church I attend is to send teams over to serve the "untouchables" in a number of ways (support, education, etc) in addition to what is considered extraordinary there: literally hugging these people and telling them they are as worthy and loved human beings as any others. The reactions speak for themselves.
"If you keep giving me your tired, your poor, / Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, / The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. / Your homeless, tempest-tossed to me, / I will lift my lamp beside the golden door and bolt it!"
DL actually showing compassion here.
The problem with immigration reform progresses with a democratic form of government, Diversity politics, fiscal liberalism, Green deals, and social liberalism that reduces the viability of the population.
250,000 girls were groomed and gang raped in England because of open borders.
I talked with this fellow when my wife, our kids and I were spending a weekend over in Monterey-Carmel a few decades back. We were on the 17 mile drive and we stopped around the Lone Cypress and there he was with a couple of companions. I recall him being a very nice man, soft spoken and always with a smile.
There'd have to be a great many more Tibetans sneaking into the United States before the United States becomes like Tibet.
The River Charles of Masshole fame has nothin’ on teh Ganges!
So, I guess Tom Homan has that going for him, which is nice.
The solution is emigration reform that mitigates progress at both ends of the bridge and throughout, native citizenship of Posterity from a citizen mother and father, and cultural assimilation of principles.
Taking a knee for social progress by hook, crook, and rape-rape.

Gad Saad calls it 'suicidal empathy."

In practice there's equal misery for most, a few extra benefits for the Party faithful, the minders, and apparatchiks, and a comfy if uneasy existence for the elites, who must keep watch on their own backs so as not to be accused of wrongthink.
“The New Colossus” is the Iron Law of the Land. Having never been legislated, it can never be repealed. Also, there is no limit to how wretched the refuse can be, or to how many of them we need to accept
This Bald & Bankrupt video on Varanasi (a Hindu ceremonial site next to the Ganges) had my jaw on the floor several times. If you are impatient and not easily horrifed, scroll forward to the 3:19 mark...

Culture matters.
On Martha's Vineyard, they understand this.
But it makes them feel better to know that somewhere else in this great nation their compassion is being implemented. Somewhere like Texas. Or Arizona. Or Springfield, Ohio. Or other faraway places full of people who must be brought to understand that the compassion of the Vineyarders is more important than their petty, racist concerns.
We could use some more Gurkhas though :)
Imagine if the Japanese had been able to convince Americans that getting upset at their attack on Pearl Harbor and conquest of the Pacific was bad and showed a "lack of compassion". Nice work if you can get it.

…you’re free to say no..well, in a few days you are..,
Half the population literally craps in the street

now do California cities
Many Asians have a way of laughing at awkward moments, when nothing's funny.
"No, Europe will become like Afghanistan or Africa..."
Like California is becoming Mexico. But the problem solves itself. Once California is sufficiently Mexican, Mexicans won't want to go there anymore.
I haven't been able to look at Guru Rinpoche the same way since he asked a boy if he wanted to suck on his tongue. Granted, it was his tongue rather than something else, but still, ... his tongue?
He's right though. Making England (or New Jersey) India wouldn't be any improvement. Making everywhere equally "diverse" means making everywhere the same and nowhere actually "diverse."
Biden did a lot to convince America that immigration wasn't about compassion. The 2020 Democratic platform made an ostentatious show of their supposedly compassionate immigration policy. They didn't dare try that in 2024. People don't believe it anymore.
Yes, India is dirty and noisy and has many problems, and I wouldn't want the US to be like India, but they've been around for a long time as a civilization and will continue to endure -- or maybe it's China I'm thinking of. Anyway, survival is a kind of success, and I don't know if we'll be able to say the same for the US.
The much vaunted liberal "Respect for Third World Cultures" has melted away into a slavish and cowardly of Islam, and Islam alone.
the left confuses morality with policy. I'm not sure it's totally intentional as many seem to believe the rubbish they push. they rarely see the trade-off or downside of anything they propose because it's that warm, fuzzy feeling they get that is what matters to them. Intentions, not success, matters to them. Then it becomes someone else's problem.
It makes worldly well educated people like me uncomfortable to realize that they not only believe in western cultural supremacy, but they also would never want to live in a social system in which western cultural supremacy was not at least tacitly regnant. But there it is.
Was he there for the golf? Was he a good tipper?
He’s not wrong, but he is an idiot.
I spent some time with him at Emory when they gave him a million or so to hang out.
The other grad students wanted his insights on philosophy. He spouted bullshit and giggled.
Good gig if you can get it. Even lower than philosophy, which is lower than fast food. What an international bunch of pathetic grifters.
Academia rots the mind and soul.
Old and Slow: try keeping up.
Good on Drago though he seems to seek no recognition.
Interestingly, the DL feels the same way about religion. He does not encourage Westerners to convert to Buddhism, saying they would be better off with their “home “ faith. Unfortunately many Americans, especially on both coasts, have either rejected or never knew the faith of their ancestors. So, what is becoming known as “Western Buddhism” is gaining in popularity.
Oh no.
History.
Free Tommy Robinson.
So you got that goin' for you, which is nice.
We keep being told:
1) Race is just a social construct.
2) Diversity is the most important thing ever.
If 1 is true then 2 shouldn't matter.
It makes sense that the Dalai Lama, as the ruler of Tibet in exile, would not be sympathetic to the idea of free migration. With the encouragement of the communist government of China, huge numbers of Han Chinese have settled in Tibet. The result, probably intentional as these communists aren't stupid, is that if there ever were a democratic vote on Tibetan independence, it's highly likely that Chinese migrants and their descendants would swing the vote in favour of remaining part of Greater China. I think the Dalai Lama has spoken out about this.
Tibet was a feudalist regime that wasn't really much better than the communist one that took it over. I always used to laugh at the Free Tibet people. For *what*?! I'd rather free China and then see how Tibet feels about it afterwards.
Oh the horrors wrought under the tent of compassion.
I thought it was interesting his immediate issue was "climate" that europe was too cold for Africans and Indians.
