I've read enough comments in here to know that Trump's supporters loathe EVs. Yet they seem to admire Musk. In addition, they hate elites. Musk is very much an elite. Very rick people, whether Soros or Musk, have no real convictions beyond securing and protecting their power, interests, and wealth. Bannon may be a loose cannon, but so is Trump, and the latter's willingness to throw Bannon aside is just one example in a disturbing pattern . Also, while I'm no fan of Bannon or Trump, he's onto something here. I know people on the left hate Musk, I know the press is after him. Sometimes even people you don't like are right.
I don't know if it's really true that rich people only care about protecting their own power, etc., I think it's more a matter that rich people are pampered and isolated from the problems and struggles ordinary people face. It's like they are another species really.

Most of the people with any degree of power and influence, for good or for bad, are very rich. Some have more principles than others.

The US pays literally millions of programmers in India, mostly doing fairly stupid stuff (endless rehashing of patterns in Java). US pays many thousands of actual engineers in India, many doing interesting work and VERY motivated. Last I saw, these guys were making $20-60K.
They all would like to spend at least sometime in the US, hoping to make some real money. Many go back, having made some money or just not happy so far away from home. US employers like having them come over and work long hours cheap.

-1) Conservatives/"MAGA"/whatever dont hate Electric Vehicles. Total BS and stupid. They do hate govt EV purchase mandates by "dates certain" and govt EV purchase subsidies. BTW, Tesla sales far exceed the max number of total fed govt sales subsidies and Teska is the only EV manufactureer that can turn a profit oer car sold without subsidies.
2) No conservative/"MAGA" types "hate "elites". Far too vague and nebulus a statement. Self-made "elites" that actually create real stuff and were not coopted by the woke/deep state etc have always been accepted. The fact that it took years of behind the scenes corruption of the tech/business/investor sector which finally opened the eyes of many silicon valley types is a welcome development since many of those silicon valley elites have mentalities which needed that bludgeoning, politically, to finally wake to the fact the real societal danger is from the naturally fascist left.
3) Musk has literally ZERO in common with Soros, and only a buffoon could argue otherwise.
4) Trump has not reversed himself on his long-standing opposition to EV purchase mandates or subsidies.
5) there is a tech side blindness to how the H1B programs have been and continue to be abused and this inner, yet quite public and healthy debate, on the Trump supporter side is an absolutely necessay fight to have to raise all the issues and force all sides to hash it out...in public. My spouse and I are Trump supporters—here in far northern California, where (fortunately) Republican Trump supporters make up a large majority—and we have two hybrids (a Prius and Highlander), though not pure electric vehicles per se. Their being hybrids has helped on several occasions to power elements of our house when grid power has gone down from time to time (less frequently for the last several years now that we reside outside PG&E territory—thank God!).

They've toned down the in the comments because people here like Musk for other reasons. I don't think EVs should be mandated, and I understand the reservations folks have about them, but there was a fair amount of criticism about them here a while back. As for Soros vs Musk vs the Koch Bros vs Bill Gates--sorry, they're very rich people who use their money to wield power to protect their wealth and power. Soros may have different politics than Musk, but I don't believe either uses power out of any conviction but self-aggrandizement and wealth preservation. As for "elites," a lot of ads during political campaigns, and a lot of comments from politicians use the term derisively all the time. Bannon himself has, and you can deny it now since you no longer like him, but he influenced Trump in that regard and set the tone in politics that lets someone like Hawley or Cruz, Ivy Leaguers, both, use the term. Yes, I know they mean the press, college profs, people in entertainment, and tech guys. I don't hate EVs. Not do most Trump supporters. But I am fully aware that EVs are not suitable in snow and cold, not ideal for long trips, among other many drawbacks. What I see locally, much to my surprise, is an explosion in the number of people routinely using e-bikes. Wide tired ones. Never using the pedals... Even now, in December. Local grocery has at least 4 employees who use them for commuting. From almost 20 to one easily in his 40s.

Tesla can turn a profit on any vehicle sale without any subsidy now. No other EV manufacturer anywhere else can even come close. Other manufacturers lose tens of thousands on each EV sold, even with subsidies.
Musk has already publicly stated he is perfectly ok with subsidies going away completely as Tesla will be the only EV player left standing....on their own 2 feet.
There is a top side limit on number of subsidies an EV manufacturer can collect for sales...a number Tesla already far exceeds.
Teslas revolutionary design for manufacturability, manufacturing technology/strategy and supply chain put them in a category all their own.
And with the 2025 - 2026 surge of Optimus coming online in the next 24 months, withe worlds most massive "compute" capability for FSD, these advantages are going to widen the gaps even further.
Tesla is a technology company, not a "car" company.
That's the thing about really stupid people. They soon forget what they did to embarass themselves and will soon do it again.
And I didnt even mention Tesla's entire other Lines of Business including the already profitable large scale PowerWall business and national recharging network solutions already being adopted by about 20 states and just about every other major auto manufacturer adopting the Tesla recharge config ensuring Tesla is going to get paid regardless of which car is getting recharged.

One place I worked at outsourced the work to India. The big problem we had was that Indians would jump to other jobs constantly. No sooner would we get someone trained and they would be gone shortly and the new person would require training. And of course they would rely on those of us who had worked on the job for years as 2nd and 3rd tier support, which is what they were supposed to be. My boss ended up telling us to stop retraining them and answering their questions. That work was supposed to be outsourced, we didn't have the resources to keep doing it and the work we were responsible for.
