The NYT reports, in "Trump Previews Second Term in Sprawling Speech to Conservative Conference/President-elect Donald J. Trump repeated false claims about immigration and the border, slammed diversity initiatives and discussed the Panama Canal in the 90-minute address."
You can watch it for yourself and form your own opinion. If you have the stamina... of this endlessly energetic 78-year-old man:
I listened to part of it. I thought it was a lot like a rally speech — but with the topic of winning the election deleted and with the mood a lot sunnier. And I'd just been thinking about the coming inaugural speech and saying — here in the Meadhouse real world — I hope it's very upbeat and optimistic, that "Morning in America" kind of thing. His antagonists will be looking for every opportunity to characterize whatever he says as "dark." He shouldn't let that brush him back too much, but I prefer happy, loving Trump. And of course, it is theater....

Would the editors of the -Tmes care to explain which of Trump’s claims about immigration and the border are regarded by them as “false” and why they mistakenly think so?
We are occupied by a secret mob-cabal of power-obsessed authoritarian Soviet-like money whores. The very people who killed Jeffrey Epstein.
...and aided the spread of covid... and forced big pharma jabs. These mobsters are also inept - and their brazen pro-crime ineptitude has nearly ruined our nation. Go Trump, go! Please don't let the slime infect you.
It is nice to know we will once again have a President that is in control of the White House.
the fog... LOL. None of that is anything that appeals to me - but - go Trump go!
Nothing but curses for the corrupt democrat Soviet left.
"And then a thin layer of fog comes in around my ankles..."
"pledging to slam shut the nation’s borders, end federal regulations, lower taxes, prosecute his rivals, 'stop woke' and 'end the transgender lunacy"
Thanks for the objective summary - NYT's! The only person who's prosecuted his rivals and bragged about it was Joe Biden. The only reason Trump isn't on his way to Jail is he won the election. And "slamming shut the nation's borders" is usually called "defending the USA against invasion" and "enforcing the immigration laws".
Beware the politician who loves the sound of his own voice. If Trump worked as hard at governing as he does campaigning he'd be well ahead of the game.
BTW, does anyone listen to the innagural (sic) speeches anymore? I cant remember the last one I tuned into. Reagan 84 maybe? Bush supposedly told Hillary that Trump's 2017 speech was "racist". Which makes me sad I missed it.
Trump should delegate governing to a small, hidden group of unelected ideologues. It's not like there's not precedent …
Apparently, he is delegating governing to a small, public group of unelected idealogues. So I guess that is progress of a sort.
Was Jack Black really funny ha-ha in that movie, or just funny strange?
the ones they don't like, are (according to Them); "false"
LOL. How is Elon Musk different than the New York Times? His only power is the power of the press.
I do, and I was disappointed in Trump's first. It was too dark.
Yup great pick for Attorney General...MATT GAETZ WTF!! Land of Misfit toys! Lets go let er roll ,already blown out with DEBT CEILING ploy and Attorney General pick,,,Next Johnsom replaced by MJT that would be about par..:(
"pledging to slam shut the nation’s borders"
As if the people at the NYT don't have locked doors on their apartments, and anyone who wants to can just walk in.
it was what he was trying to avoid, but American Carnage was what the Dems delivered,
"He repeated his claim, without evidence, that other countries were emptying their “insane asylums” and prisons into the United States."
That's the best they have.
The NYTimes is not an honest broker about any issues anymore. Any "news" outlet that would gaslight americans for 4 years is not to be trusted on anything.
There is a reason the NYTimes doesn't post this on twitter nor has comments enabled, assuming they are not.
I'd add a like here if I could.
Well said
John Henry
The leftmediaswine, particularly the NYT, still fail to understand the difference between Trump bullshitting and serious Democrat lies, e.g., "Biden is sharp as a tack," "There is no inflation," "We have no troops in war zones." Consequently, they continue to erode their credibility by trying to discredit the former with the latter.
Shorter NYT editorial policy--if we don't like it, it's "false".
Reagan's "Morning in America" thing was from a commercial written and voiced by SF legend Hal Riney.
And while we're on the subject, which of his "rivals" did he "pledge to prosecute"? Ron DeSantis? Nicki Halley?
They're such liars. They lie and lie and lie. All the lies they can fit in their lying mouths. Maybe you could just start each morning with "The NYT is lying again!", and skip the sordid details. There's going to be at least four more years of this. Have you got a tag for "NYT lying"?
Hopefully Trump' second inaugural will not warrant a GOP predecessor's remark, "That was some weird shit."
Bill Kristol Interviewing Professor Jack Goldsmith, ‘Conversations with Bill Kristol,’ Youtube (Dec. 13, 2024), (at 27:10ff):
Professor Jack Goldsmith:
["B]ut it’s normal for Trump, and let me just say part of what Trump is about is to just blow up all these norms [which] he just thinks … he thinks or talks acts as if he thinks, that they are just illegitimate, that they are corrupt, that the justice department is under the control of the Deep State or Democrats or some combination of both, and you know there were some Deep-State shenanigans against him in his first term, so and I get it, but this [?] is all completely out of the ordinary. [For us?] We unfortunately: it is about to become ordinary …. (emphasis added)
This is from Seth Barrett Tillman's blogspot
https://reformclub.blogspot.com/2024/12/never-followed-up-with-any-sort-of.html
With Tillman's comments being "Bill Kristol never followed with any sort of probing questions in regard to “Deep-State shenanigans.”
And when Goldsmith asserts that “this” is all completely out of the ordinary ... what precisely does Goldsmith’s use of “this” refer to? "
Sunny Trump pisses off the Bulwark grifters and genuine leftists more than Dark Trump.
Bill Kristol can land on the trash heap of Liz Cheney.
Freder - you do know that we are being driven to ruin right now by un-elected bureaucrats. And no one really knows who runs Joe.
US citizens have every right to influence elected officials.
After all - you have Soros and his family pulling lots of leftist strings.
I guess you didn't hear about Pam Bondi? She might kick some corrupt leftist a$$. We can only hope.
"US citizens have every right to influence elected officials."
Yes they do. More than that, they have a responsibility. Of course, 99+% are not going to take the time, but to excoriate those that do is profoundly undemocratic, IMHO.
"How is Elon Musk different than the New York Times?"
Well, Musk does provide a source of news that's not devoted solely to advancing leftard interests.
So there's that.
I don't think the Swamp is fully prepared for a battle tested Trump 2.0.
They thought the 'Musk is the President' taunt would send Trump into a fever.
Yet I will not underestimate to what depths the Swamp will sink to fortify itself, there's still plenty of time for mischief between now and January 20th, 2025.
The NYT says Trump is "... pledging to slam shut the nation’s borders [NO IMMIGRATION? NO FOREIGN TRAVEL BY AMERICANS? NO EXPORTS? NO IMPORTS?, end federal regulations [ALL FEDERAL REGULATIONS GONE?, lower taxes [GOOD IDEA; WHY DIDN’T SOMEONE THINK OF THIS BEFORE?], prosecute his rivals [WHICH OF HIS “RIVALS” AND FOR WHAT CRIMES?, 'stop woke' and 'end the transgender lunacy.' Come on, Mr. President-Elect, this is a good start, but we need more specifics!
Trump’s coming out against the whole debt ceiling idea was certainly living up to his reputation for unpredictability.
The true irony lies in having to treat Trump’s moronic babble critically simply because of his station, as he clearly lacks any semblance of understanding of the subject.
I live next to a forest. My house burns down, I rebuild. I go buy more fire insurance and the premium is now three times as high.
The insurance market is looking ahead and pricing in today more forest fires tomorrow.
The US government has a lot of debt. In the future, it will either inflate it away or they will repress it (they will exchange my old bond for a new one paying a lower government mandated "savings bond" premium rate or require all savings be in government insured savings and loan associations subject to interest ceilings--as was the case in the US from the 1930s through the 1970s and into the 80s).
After reading your comment, I am less informed than I was before. I already know you hate Trump, but there are more than two ways to deal with the debt.
Thanks for the insurance lecture, but were you trying to connect it to gov debt?
what is difference between sprawling and wide-ranging?
Somebody please call a whambalanth fo’ dinky!
if 'Musk is the President' then is Trump is safe from impeachment?
“Trunalimunumaprzure!”
—— Dementia Joe Biden
Go rejoin your tribe, dinky. Just look for the skittle hair…
which is easier? walking on clouds vs walking on water?
test
"what is difference between sprawling and wide-ranging?"
Sprawling is done by men, but wide raging is done by women.
"which is easier? walking on clouds vs walking on water?"
Due to the density of the medium relative to the density of the subject, it is "easier" to walk on water, but a regular person can't walk on either, only Jesus.
I suggest he begin with, “Now where were we?”
The time of talking about it ends soon.
I understand debt ceiling has been suspended already - what does that mean?
