Now that the election's over, MSM is free — and selfishly motivated — to present Trump in a favorable light.

The Mika/Morning Joe confabulation with Trump is just one manifestation of this phenomenon, which I'm seeing popping up wherever I look this morning. I need a tag to keep these things together so we can see the pattern. I was thinking of: Now we like him

They don't like him that much. They're just taking a different tone and raising issues they'd have suppressed and they're not forcing the old template on everything.

I don't think you'll get to use this tag very much.

MSM (D) is dead.

Same as it ever was. I would think they torched any credibility they had left long ago but if you're not on team GOP I guess you're willing to accept anything so long as it works in your favor. So, just as before, not that the election is over they make no apologies nor repent for their fatal flaws and as with every post- election cycle some mild allusions to journalism or impartiality are floated about, while they're setting the rule that anything Trump wants to do will require their permission because, congress, Hawaiian and New York judges, and 'experts'. Bless your hearts...

My progressive Facebook friends are all very confused. They swallowed the lie about Trump being Hitler and so the willingness of those who told them these lies to make nice with Trump is now incomprehensible to them. It's like the authorities they respected never believed what they were saying!

D-MSNBC = Hitler. What do proper people do to Hitler?

They'll speed this phase up, to minimize the amount of whiplash their committed viewers will experience. Those people, the few thousand True Believers must be in a daze, first a badly-lost election that was a 'guaranteed win', and then the stalwarts that have been so reliably anti-fascist for all these years, are now pandering to the Orange Menace !

It must be a truly revolting development, but everything is on the table when you're hustling for your next breath. They'll put it forward as 'getting to know your enemy', and then it will be a 4 year plan of constant harping on the dangerous dealings of President Orange, steeling them up for the midterms.

I read yesterday that MSNBC is being spun off to prepare for a sale. Calling Elon........

They must protect their "phoney baloney" jobs. Give Trump a harrumph!

I've noticed that the Trump transition insiders have been deploying a you-get-this-story-first tactic with the MSM, instead of doing what they easily could do, which is give those stories first to conservative media. The NYT will get one appointment story first, and then in the afternoon, Politico will get a story first, etc. Obviously, those outlets want this and in my opinion, they are being played.

They are just trying to generate some artificial credibility To support their future unhinged attacks.

except there is no proof they were actually there, much the same can be said of msnbc

I'm sure Trump is enjoying the esteem he's now getting from the MSM, but I hope his ego doesn't get in the way of payback. CBS (60 Minutes) and ABC (The View + David Muir) need to be 100% blacklisted by the new administration as a warning to other news organizations that there will be a price paid for their lies and propaganda.

I think this is going to backfire spectacularly on MSNBC.

Essentially zero Republicans are going to start watching Morning Joe or MSNBC.

However, their remaining core audience is pretty far Left Democrats who tune in specifically to get fed their "red meat" coverage.

THOSE people are going to quit watching since Joe and Mika bent the knee to Trump.

They like the millions their network pays them to lie about Trump and ruin their careers. NOW they are trying to act like they are above that. Too late. We all watched as they cried and carried on about the Dictator Trump was going to be. They need to cry more often, and do it on TV so we can watch,, point and laugh at them more than we already do. Beavis and Butthead have NOTHING on these two dullards.

You're right. I think the explosion of athletes doing the Trump dance really pierced their bubbles and they're trying to salvage whatever significance they have left with the greater populace.

That’s six derogatory names for Trump. He’s now eligible to get the next one for free.

Unscrupulous, maybe?

Perhaps something like: Trump treated normally or Now Trump is normal would be better. They still don’t like him at all. They just think after the election they need to show him some of the positive attention all other newly elected presidents, even presidents disliked by the media, always get. They know the Trump is a monster, Trump is Putin's puppet stuff has failed badly and clearly needs to go on the shelf, at least for a little while.

Then they can call Poilievre Hitler until he wins the election there.

Things are moving fast these days. The "Strange new respect" phenomenon used to have to wait until Literally-Hitler's term was in the past, and the NEXT Literally-Hitler Republican candidate came along and required smearing by the news media.

I think you’ll get more use out of “Now we can report”. It works with other narratives obscuring the real evidence that tells a different story.

"I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords!" says Joe and Mika now.

If I were Trump I would have had a medley of their greatest hits, from Russian collusion, fake Hunter's laptop hoax, "good people on both sides", etc. playing. Then tell them, "This is why America doesn't listen to any more. Don't let the door hit....."

Yes, the hysteria seems to be fading. Today Garrison Keillor went from previous "Trump is Hitler" screams to mumbling that Trump is only America's "dopiest president." Progress right there.

ronetc, where are you hearing Keillor? I thought he joined the Witness Protection Program after the #METOO shite hit the fan. He was accused in the morning and his ass was canned before lunch! Fastest defenestration I've ever seen. And I haven't heard one word from him or about him since that day! Do you know the dirt behind his firing? That's what I really care to know.

Michael Fitzgerald said...

I thought so too at first, but then, thinking about it... Normally they would just attack him as president(while respecting the office of course) like they did the last time he was president- non-stop HateTrump 24/7 hysteria to the point that even AWFL's complained of exhaustion at the end of his term. They even allied with government agencies to frame him. They had no fear of him whatsoever. Foreign diplomats such as the Special Envoy to Iran even deceived him and defied his commands, then bragged about it to the NYT, and nothing happened to him. There were no consequences whatsoever for their treasons. What's changed? Roughly the same number of citizens voted for him this time as last time, as far as we know. Libtards are still promising a #Resistance. Party members are still contesting the election. GOP corruptocrats are still in power and still openly defying him. But something's changed, hasn't it?
