Some years I let milkweed grow in there, there is generally no shortage of volunteers, and I kind of like it. There has been a bald eagle operating out of the cottonwood tree now for about a week, I know people say that the call of the bald eagle is kind of disappointing, but live and up close, it's impressive enough. As for migratory birds, well, there have been a couple flocks of mergansers, I haven't seen a goldfinch in a while, and the robins seem to be gone, as one drives around, the wild rice flats are full of red-winged blackbirds again, like every year at this time.
