Teen Vogue weighs in on "Why the Harris Walz Camo Hat Is Becoming a Status Symbol for Liberals."

"Nearly $1 million worth of Walz inspired hats have been sold through the Harris campaign" — by Alyssa Hardy.
On August 6, VP Kamala Harris posted a video asking Minnesota Governor Tim Walzto join the ticket as her vice presidential nominee. He gleefully accepted from his living room, where he was sitting on a wicker chair wearing a black t-shirt, khakis, bright white sneakers, and a camo hat. He was projecting, wittingly or not, those same everyday-person values the Republican Party has desperately tried to claim....

Within minutes, social media picked up on the outfit.... The campaign confirmed to Teen Vogue that 3,000 hats were made and sold out...
Camo was already in use by "people who ironically wear the pattern for fashion." Ironic, because it was "a symbol of conservatism, particularly because of its association with guns and the military."
[I]t now represents a different kind of freedom. Walz’s version of freedom is where you can live in a small town and “mind your own business” about what others want to do with their bodies and lives. Or Chappell Roan’s, where you can come from a small town and maintain that aspect of your identity alongside being part of the “pink pony club.”

I don't know how that makes the camo hat a "status symbol." "Status symbol" is a funny old term. Wikipedia:

A status symbol is a visible, external symbol of one's social position, an indicator of economic or social status. Many luxury goods are often considered status symbols. Status symbol is also a sociological term – as part of social and sociological symbolic interactionism – relating to how individuals and groups interact and interpret various cultural symbols....

The term "status symbol" was first written in English in 1955, but from 1959 with the publication of the bestseller "The Status Seekers" greater distribution. There, journalist Vance Packard describes the social strategy and behavior in the USA.

It came from the 1950s....

This is a ticket that represents nobody. Not one single voter. The only story in this election is massive fraud and sabotage. The DNC/Intel cartel almost assassinated its opponent. I don’t understand why I should place any importance in dickering over the details of this bullshit election. Voters are irrelevant to this rigged farce of an election.

John Borell বলেছেন...

People can vote for Harris/Walz, fine, but to portray Walz as "middle of the road" means you're lying about what positions "middle of the road" Americans hold.

"Walz’s version of freedom is where you can live in a small town and “mind your own business” about what others want to do with their bodies and lives."

Which is *quite literally the opposite* of what the DNC wants, but never mind.

Walz implemented a program where people could report their neighbors to the state for failing to wear covid masks on their own private yards, such as to get the mail.

Mary Beth বলেছেন...

"Mind your own business" but don't forget to call Walz's COVID snitch line to report your neighbor.

It's probably a very small percentage of Teen Vogue's readership that's asking why no K-pop boy band has yet endorsed the Harris Walz Camo Hat.

doctrev বলেছেন...

It must be absolutely crushing to realize that the camo hat won't even be as iconic as the NPR tote, never mind the MAGA hat. $1 million is nothing, and with union stitching it's not even a profitable item. Pure astroturf.

stlcdr বলেছেন...

Yeah, let's talk about that 'mind your own business' thing...

Per Powerline and even MSNBC (Link to PJ Media), his small town appeal is rather selective.

Demetri Martin says that camouflage makes you look cool in the woods but marks you as a conspicuous asshole in the city.

I can see Inga in her camo hat lying to everyone who'll listen about her deployment to Afghanistan, just like Walz.

planetgeo বলেছেন...

It's admirable that they're admitting they're camouflaging everything coming out of their heads.

A gentleman doesn’t wear a hat indoors.

tommyesq বলেছেন...

He just "happened" to be wearing that het, inside his own house, when Harris called (and the campaign "happened" to have 3000 all ready to go).

You are being gaslit, Teen Vogue pseudo-hipster camo hat people.

Howard বলেছেন...

The amount of camouflage that a man wears is inversely proportional to their free testosterone levels

Paul Zrimsek বলেছেন...

Anyone care to offer an over/under on the number of things ordinary people do which will turn out to be Tim Walz's business?

As Governor, Walz maintained a public hotline until mid-2022 encouraging citizens to call and rat out their neighbors who were violating COVID restrictions.
That kind of freedom.

As if to underscore Walz’s stolen valor issues, it is not desert camouflage.

Is this the camo hat with the special operations badge? He was wearing that in one photo.

Iman বলেছেন...

Walz wore that hat during Dessert Storm. He gained 29 pounds.

Teen Vogue seems ironic to me, it's got to be something actual teenagers would mostly ridicule, right? Camo patterns have been a thing in fashion for a while now, so kind of amusing that this old fat white guy is being heralded as some kind of gucci trend setter. But okay, sure, it's seriously tope (tight and dope).

Replacing The Three Stooges, we have The Two Vices
https://www.newsmax.com/politics/poll-tim-walz-kamala-harris/2024/08/07/id/1175644/

Example:
The Two Vices are now promoting their special line of merch including Ironic Camo. This wildly exciting line resembles regular camo but with a subtle twist of lemon in the way it's worn. Here modelled by the Duke and Duchess of of Sassysex at an orgy off Nantucket, it is acceptable at all Party rallies or antisemitic encamplments.

J L Oliver বলেছেন...

Didn’t the Trump near-assassin wear camo pants. They could sell them.

Jonathan Burack বলেছেন...

This says about Walz and Kamala's pitch, "'those same everyday-person values the Republican Party has desperately tried to claim." A perfect example of the constant projection Democrats engage in. It is they who are "desperately trying to claim "everyday-person" values. Will voters fall for it. I doubt it.

Did you know that in some countries only police and military are permitted to wear camo. Civilians wearing camo gear can be arrested and jailed and/or prosecuted.

Birches বলেছেন...

Lol. I'll believe a million dollars worth of these hats sold to real people when there's pictures of regular people in Manhattan or Santa Monica wearing them. Otherwise, this is just democratic money laundering, like $10 million dollar book ad advanced.

Why in the world would the Harris campaign be making hats a thing? Talk about sloppy seconds.

Christopher B বলেছেন...

In April 2019 Brad Parscale estimated that the Trump campaign (alone, and to that point in time) had sold a million MAGA hats and grossed around $45 million dollars.

This! I don't give shit about stolen valor or camo hats. Harris/Waltz represent a Totalitarian takeover of the country that would make Trudeau or the Brits pale in comparison.

My family owned a small chain of hair salons until we sold them just prior to Covid. Talk about great timing! Anyway, when you run hair salons you get a lot of free magazines to put in your lobby. (The good ones you have to pay for.). Teen Vogue was one of the freebies.

I didn’t think much of it until someone left a copy open on one of the chairs. There was stuff in there that didn’t belong in a grammar school library! I immediately chucked it as I did every issue after that.

PM বলেছেন...

ALSO they missed a golden op: the Kamo Hat. And they wanna run stuff?

I have a camo US Air Force cap I bought several years ago to honor a nephew in the AF but couldn't wear it around my very pro-Bernie liberal town because of serious bad vibes towards expressions of patriotism. Maybe I can wear it now. This will be interesting.

Dr.Bunkypotatohead বলেছেন...

Trump should commission 100,000 MAGA hats in camo colors. They'd sell quickly while rubbing Walz's nose in it.

Narr বলেছেন...

How about camo pussy hats?

What I've seen looks like hunters' apparel--I don't think I've ever seen miitary camo in that sort of pattern.
