RFK Jr.'s issues — he's made it very clear — are censorship, chronic disease in children, and the war in Ukraine.

From RFK Jr.'s speech announcing his endorsement of Trump:
Three great causes drove me to enter this race in the first place, and these are the principal causes that persuaded me to leave the Democratic Party and run as an independent, and now to throw my support to President Trump. The causes were free speech, the war in Ukraine, and the war on our children....
The military-industrial complex has provided us with a familiar comic book justification, as they do in every war, claiming this one is a noble effort to stop Vladimir Putin. Tiny Ukraine is a proxy in a geopolitical struggle initiated by the ambitions of U.S. neocons for American global hegemony.

I'm not excusing Putin for invading Ukraine; he had other options. The war is Russia's principal response to the reckless neocon project of extending NATO to encircle Russia, a hostile act....

The Ukraine war began in 2014 when U.S. agencies overthrew the democratically elected government of Ukraine and installed a hand-picked pro-Western government that launched a deadly civil war against ethnic Russians in Ukraine. In 2019, America walked away from a peace treaty.... In April 2022, we escalated the war....

President Biden stated that month that his objective in the war was regime change in Russia. His defense secretary, Lloyd Austin, simultaneously explained that America’s purpose in the war was to exhaust the Russian army and degrade its capacity to fight anywhere else in the world. These objectives had nothing to do with what they were telling Americans about protecting Ukraine’s sovereignty. Ukraine is a victim in this war; it is a victim of the West....
Judging by her bellicose and belligerent speech last night in Chicago, we can assume President Harris will be an enthusiastic advocate for this and other neocon military adventures. President Trump says he will reopen negotiations with President Putin and end the war overnight as soon as he becomes president. This alone would justify my support for his campaign....

Less than two hours after President Trump narrowly escaped assassination, Calley Means called me on my cell phone.... I was delighted when Calley told me that day that he had been advising President Trump. He told me President Trump had been anxious to talk to me about chronic disease and other subjects, and to explore avenues of cooperation.... In a series of long, intense discussions, I was surprised to discover that we are aligned on many key issues.

In those meetings, he suggested we join forces as a unity party. We talked about Abraham Lincoln’s "team of rivals." That arrangement would allow us to disagree publicly and privately, even fiercely if need be, on issues over which we differ while working together on the existential issues upon which we are in concordance.... [W]e are aligned with each other on... ending the Forever Wars, ending the childhood disease epidemics, securing the border, protecting freedom of speech, unraveling the corporate capture of our regulatory agencies, and getting the U.S. intelligence agencies out of the business of propagandizing, censoring, and surveilling Americans, as well as interfering in our elections....

In case some of you don’t realize how dire the condition is regarding chronic disease, I would urge you to view Tucker Carlson’s recent interview with Calley Means and his sister, who was the top graduate of her class at Stanford Medical School.... This is the most important issue. It has the potential to bring us together, so let me share a little bit about why I believe it is so urgent....

Two-thirds of American adults and children suffer from chronic health issues. Fifty years ago, that number was less than 1%. We have gone from 1% to 66%.... When my uncle was president, juvenile diabetes was effectively nonexistent. Today, one out of every three kids who walk through a doctor’s office door is diabetic or prediabetic.... There has been an explosion of neurological illnesses that I never saw as a kid: ADD, ADHD, language delay, Tourette’s syndrome, narcolepsy, Asperger’s, autism. In the year 2000, the autism rate was one in 1,500. Now, autism rates in kids are one in 36 according to the CDC nationally....
Why are we allowing this to happen to our children?... So, what is causing this suffering? I will name two culprits. First, and the worst, is ultra-processed food.... The second culprit is toxic chemicals in our food, medicine, and environment. Pesticides, food additives, pharmaceutical drugs, and toxic waste permeate every cell of our bodies. The impact on our children's hormones is relentless.... The good news is we can change all this, and we can change it quickly....
I got involved with chronic disease 20 years ago, not because I chose to or wanted to, but because it was thrust upon me. It was an issue that should have been central to the environmental movement....
For 19 years, I prayed every morning that God would put me in a position to end this calamity. The chronic disease crisis was one of the primary reasons for my running for president, along with ending censorship and the Ukraine war. It is the reason I made the heart-wrenching decision to suspend my campaign and support President Trump....

If I am given the chance to fix the chronic disease crisis, I promise that within two years, we will watch the chronic disease burden lift dramatically. We will make Americans healthy again....

MAHA.

This is a spiritual journey for me. I reached my decision through deep prayer and hard-nosed logic.... I am 70 years old. I might have a decade to be effective. I cannot imagine a President Harris allowing me or anyone to solve these dire problems. After eight years of President Harris, any opportunity for me to fix the problem will be out of my reach forever.

President Trump told me this is what he wants to be his legacy. I am choosing to believe that he will follow through....

My dad and uncle made such an enduring mark on the character of our nation.... They were able to put their love into the hearts of ordinary Americans and to unify a national populist movement of Americans—blacks, whites, Hispanics, urban and rural Americans—with love, high hopes and a culture of kindness.... That is the spirit with which I ran my campaign and I intend to bring into the campaign of President Trump, instead of vitriol and polarization.... The most unifying theme for all Americans is that we all love our children....

And I think of Robert F. RFK Jr. did it for what he believes is what he has to do for a better America, an America in which we're supposed to strive and thrive. Instead of this awful, contrived "Happy-Happy Show" we're being sprayed with by the Democrats and their mouthpieces.

I think probably the biggest reason for the explosion of chronic illnesses is over-diagnosis. It’s not that we are sicker than ever before, but that we are being medicalized like never before.

Still, RFK can stick it to the hypocritical corrupt Dems like no Republican can.

There are more people with chronic diseases because people are living far longer, and getting more and sometimes better medical care. More medical care --> more diagnoses. Also, there are more interventions available, so more motivation to make more diagnoses.
The increase in mental health/neurological diagnoses is more of the same. The kids who were designated "weirdos" in the past are now "on the spectrum," which is considered a mark of status in some circles. More medications are available, more counselors and therapists are out trying to make a living, and more funds are available for "special" education. A market is being made. There may be good data the show that all of these high dollar interventions result in more functional adults, but I have not seen it.
The increased number of diagnoses definitely corresponds temporally with the availability of processed foods, but we all know about correlation and causation.
We don't hear much anymore about standard vaccines causing autism- a good thing.
RFKJr is totally correct about Ukraine.
Not so much about his dad and uncle- but that is understandable and forgivable.
RFKJr is right about some stuff, wrong about other stuff, but for a politician, comes across as more believable than most. It's a good thing that he has aligned with PDJT.

What you say about over-diagnosis might be true, or it may be that chronic illness was once ignored and remained unmeasured. But what is absolutely true today, is that our institutions have so corrupted their mission, that we have lost the baseline against which 'normal' and 'healthy' are evaluated. We no longer can have faith that measurement and diagnosis is being fairly assessed and honestly represented. And that is the death knell for an enlightened society. If there is no longer any trust in the integrity of scientific methodology, then all else falls into chaos.

So, if nothing else, Junior' represents the presence of an honest broker, putting the organizations like the FDA and the CDC back onto their rails, so they can begin re-establishing their reputation. It cannot happen with extensive reform, and that cannot happen if people keep their jobs.

Here's a video edited from movie footage of my parent's 1955 New Year's Eve party. The woman you see from 0:17 to 0:23 was considered the "fat lady." No one else in the neighborhood looked anything like that. She stood out as unique. It was an oddity to be that fat back then. No one else approached that fatness and we didn't see women fatter than that.

Loudogblog: I think a lot of the obesity has to do with central heat and air.

While it really helped economic and social advancement, it also takes away one of the big calorie-burners: keeping the body temperature constant against the vagaries of nature.

Also second-order effects, such as kicking kids out of the house to get exercise , were replaced by sedentary pursuits inside the steady-state house.

And a lot of jobs still involved at least some physical activity, even if it was just standing on the assembly line putting Rivet -A in Hole 1.

Also much more widespread smoking - reduces the appetite and has a diuretic effect.

It all adds up.

Type 1 diabetes actually has increased in both incidence and prevalence since the mid-20th century and while the reasons for that aren't completely clear, research shows that the lifestyle factors that lead to Type 2 diagnoses may also influence onset of Type 1 (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10141720/).

My mother was a life long democrat. But about five years ago she switched. She said she couldn’t take all the hate emanating from the left. In particular she was turned off by the TV show the View.

Kit Pollard:
Doesn't Type 1 Diabetes run in families? If the cause is even partly genetic, the fact that people who have it can now live fairly normal lives and reproduce would tend to increase the frequency, since their children would (if it runs in families) be more likely to have it. Many of those parents would have died without reproducing in the days before effective treatment, which would have reduced the overall incidence. All this assuming that it does in fact run in families.

My father refused to allow us to watch TV. He would take the power cord. We got another to get around that restriction.

My son has always been slim and still is at 34 , except for a a bit of beer fat. He pays a lot of video games so he does not get a lot of exercise. But he was always a high energy boy and was in Boy Scouts so did a lot of outdoor activities until he was 17.

I think a lot of child obesity is from a lazy lifestyle. But not all . I recall one boy in boy scouts that was big and a bit fat. His older brother and family were all big but not fat. So some grow out of the adolescent fat.

All this stupidity from Bobby Jr's speech which mentions nothing about his abandoning his obviously fake fight to save the environment. First Junior claimed that he would be America's first environmental president and then he begged Trump to allow him come on board.

As WAPO pointed out:

During his first term, Trump dramatically rolled back the protections of the Clean Water Act — the landmark 1972 law whose importance Kennedy has emphasized countless times and around which much of his legal work revolved — and sought to slash funding for the Environmental Protection Agency, which Kennedy has frequently assailed for failing to adequately safeguard the American public. Kennedy, who has denounced the country’s reliance on fossil fuels and repeatedly stood among protesters seeking to block construction on oil pipelines, is now part of a campaign that counts “Drill, baby, drill” among its slogans.

And all this because Kamala wouldn't talk to the guy that Trump called “the dumbest member of the Kennedy Clan,” saying, “He’s a Radical Left Lunatic whose crazy Climate Change views make the Democrat’s Green New Scam look Conservative.”

I think it’s less left-vs-right and more just conspiracy theorist, swinging from one to the next as the attention and outrage die down. He wants to be in the limelight and be important, and he latches onto whatever to keep his 15 minutes going.

Choosing to believe that an obese, nearly eighty-year-old man who is famously addicted to Diet Coke and serves McDonald’s at White House functions will band with him to end the scourge of ultraprocessed foods—that’s the kind of judgment he’s famous for!

Trump was questioning childhood jab schedules before he ran in '16.

But I understand your family struggles regarding diet.:
"Since Liz and I have lived together, our (formerly her) cat, Athens, has woken us up at ungodly hours, usually sometime between 4:30 and 5:00. I used to be able to placate him with food and go back to sleep; but he's been diagnosed with diabetes, and he's on a controlled feeding schedule. That means there's no way to end the prodding, head-butting, nuzzling, and raking. So I take one for the team and get up with him. And to kill time until the appointed feeding time (6.45), Athens and I watch a movie. It's usually something that Liz isn't interested in watching with me--old crime thrillers, noir, exploitation, blaxploitation, etc. It's a pretty random list, but it's surprising how often themes recur. I've named the series after the cat that's made it all possible. And I'm working on coming up with a system of rating the movies based on how well they distract us from Athens's gnawing hunger."

Althouse wrote "MAHA". Good one, Althous! And it works at every structural level of organization: Make Wisconsin Healthy Again; Make Madison Healthy Again; Make Families Healthy Again; Make People Healthy Again.

It's MAHA turtles all the way down!

Because America wants two kooky conspiracy theorist charlatans in charge of public health and science. Both are just the poster boys for health 🙃

Voters say that RFK Jr.'s past as a coke dealer makes him an unlikable surrogate for the Trump campaign. But Donald Trump Jr. isn't so sure. 🤔

Sugar, too much sugar is the cause of all these diseases.

Dreams: not type 1 diabetes. It is idiots like you, who do not understand the difference between genetic, type 1, aka Juvenile Diabetes, and type 2 -- acquired, diet related, who made my family's life even more hellish for decades, with idiot advice that maybe they shouldn't eat Halloween candy or something to "cure" their type 1. There is no cure for type 1. It kills the pancreas. It is purely genetic. It is like MS or Crohn's disease: the body turns on itself because of genetics. Just genetics. People suffer their whole lives.

Rot in hell. Slowly. Preferably reading a book that somehow enlightens you.

Oh, and, Kit, you're also a moron. You don't know anything about the difference between these diseases. Don't play pretend epidemiologist. Childhood-onset type 2 diabetes is an epidemic and an entirely new health problem. They have vastly improved maintenance treatment of type 1, and so more of those sufferers live longer and can have kids, but it still has nothing to do with type 2.

Jesus wept I am sick of having to explain to idiots what killed my family. Just shut the hell up.
