"And multiple speakers delighted the crowd by alluding to the fabricated viral claim that Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance, wrote in his memoir about having sex with furniture."

"'I wouldn’t trust them to move my couch,' Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said of the GOP ticket on the final night. 'I know a couch commando when I see one,' Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colo.) said minutes later. The jabs were just part of a more expansive case against Trump that Democrats laid out over four nights in Chicago. But they reflected a broader shift in tone for Democrats toward a no-holds-barred kind of rhetorical warfare many in the party once eschewed. Eight years after the Philadelphia convention cheered Michelle Obama’s famous line 'When they go low, we go high' — and with Trump still waging a campaign full of personal insults and baseless accusations... some Democrats said they are tired of being polite...."

From "Democrats once strove to ‘go high’ against Trump. Not anymore. This year’s convention culminated recent efforts to needle Trump on topics known to strike a nerve in the former president, with some Democrats saying they are tired of being polite" (WaPo)(free-access link).

This gets my "civility bullshit" tag, which in this case reflects my belief that the old "When they go low, we go high" was just a strategy choice, to be abandoned when it didn't seem effective... or when the low material is tantalizing enough, like that well-upholstered couch that seems be calling out to you.

By the way, what's with casting shame on masturbators? They vote too. They may not form a bloc that overtly seeks gratification, but you don't have to insult them. They're no more deplorable than many of the voters you make a show of indulging.

Back to the article:
At a Monday rally in Pennsylvania [Trump] repeated his objections to Democrats labeling him and Vance “weird,” saying, “I think we’re extremely normal people.” At another rally on Wednesday in North Carolina, he brought Obama up and called his comments “very nasty.”
“Did you see Barack Hussein Obama last night, taking little shots?” Trump said.... “They always say, sir, please stick to policy. Don’t get personal. And yet they’re getting personal all night long.” He polled his own crowd: “Do I still have to stick to policy?”

“Noooo!” they shouted.

They always say.... yes, and it's civility bullshit when they say it. They only want you to cut the plain-spoken criticism. When they have equivalent material, they congratulate themselves.

Of course these men don't read or vote because they are too busy couch fucking to do so. It's not like you are dealing with actual humans with rights and dreams. The degree to which this is true will be illuminated in November. If Trump starts giving Kennedy's speech, his chances would be better. Like that would ever happen. We'll see.

This is why we conservatives have to stop apologizing when Republicans say/do something that Democrats then criticize. How many times have I heard “if only the Heritage Foundation hadn’t come out with Project 2025” or “ if only JD Vance hadn’t said the words cat ladies” or if only Trump hadn’t used this or that word. It doesn’t matter. The Democrats only aim is to tear Republicans down and they don’t care if their criticisms are true or not.

The feminist movement went through an era when it canonized masturbation as a freeing, noble thing for women. Remember the era of constant dildo propaganda? Female masturbation is most often pictured as an erotic turn on. And, commonly, male masturbation is depicted as a symptom of failure and worthlessness. I think this is because male masturbation deprives women of their rightful pleasure.

Obama: 'If They Bring a Knife to the Fight, We Bring a Gun'

By

WSJ Staff

June 14, 2008 1:29 pm ET

[Editor's note: In the wake of Saturday’s shooting rampage in Tucson, Ariz., a number of lawmakers and others have called for toning down the political rhetoric and President Barack Obama led a moment of silence this morning for the victims. Click hereand herefor more. Also, check back with Washington Wirefor updates.]

Amy Chozickreports on the presidential race from Philadelphia.

Mobster wisdom tells us never to bring a knife to a gun fight. But what does political wisdom say about bringing a gun to a knife fight?

That’s exactly what Barack Obamasaid he would do to counter Republican attacks “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” Obama said at a Philadelphia fundraiser Friday night. “Because from what I understand folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans.”

The comment drew some laughs and applause. But it also struck a chord with his Republican rival. John McCain’s campaign immediately accused the Democratic candidate of playing the politics of fear. They also mentioned that Obama said he would use a gun that would be illegal under Obama’s plans to cut down on illegal firearms.

“Barack Obama’s call for ‘new politics’ is officially over. In just 24 hours, Barack Obama attacked one of America’s pioneering women CEOs, rejected a series of joint bipartisan town halls, and said that if there’s a political knife fight, he’d bring a gun,” McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Boundssaid in a statement.

Obama made the comment in the context of warning donors that the general election campaign against McCain could get ugly. “They’re going to try to scare people. They’re going to try to say that ‘that Obama is a scary guy,’” he said. A supporter yelled out a deep accented “Don’t give in!”

“I won’t but that sounded pretty scary. You’re a tough guy,” Obama said.

Yancey Ward said...

That wasn't even an actual strategy- the Democrats never took the high road- Michelle Obama was lying and knew she was lying. The only thing that has changed this cycle is that they have decided to no lie about going low since that lie isn't even believed by their own supporters.

Lazarus said...

Conventions are a mixture of high and low. You have (what are intended to be) the shining moments of visionary rhetoric, and you have the low partisan insults. The media picks out which they want you to focus on. This year's DNC was much bigger on the insults than on stirring rhetoric. More so than is usually the case.

The strategy is probably to needle Trump and Vance with talk about hand size and couches to get under their skin and cause them to lose focus. There's a lot that could be said about Harris and Walz, but 1) it's a distraction from the issues that are the Republicans' strong point this year, and 2) the media labels those attacks as hate filled, racist and misogynistic and ignores the Democrats' barbs against Trump and Vance.

If there is a political gutter around, you know a modern Democrat is wallowing it. The Obamas in particular are masters of the sophisticated sleaze and they both know how to Pile it Higher and Deeper. They've got their PhDs.

Given the choice between someone who has revealed his deeply traumatic childhood privations, and likely slept as an adolescent on couches in singlewides or other subpar housing because he had no stable home, versus a bunch of ill-earned millionaires sucking cash off a wealthy political Party that wants to pump hormones into children, castrate them, and cut out their uteruses and breasts, making them infertile, and also make toddlers watch drag queens strip, the high road lies firmly with the former.

Pun or no pun.

The Democrats would never mock JD Vance's autobiography if he were black and grew up equally deprived of stability. They would protect the image of that deprived child and praise him for overcoming it.

I don't expect much from politicians, but I expect them to behave like something other than the mean girls wearing the best shoes. To junior high.

Go ahead and take away my vote because I'm female. I give in. We're the worst animals, as they say in that Portlandia skit about snails. My husband always votes the way I tell him to anyway.

That should also put a twist on the gender identity project.

No, it was an empty slogan that they never lived up to. When have Democrats shied away from going low?

Were they going high when they accused Romney of wanting to put blacks in chains? Or when they accused him of giving cancer to old people? Was Barack Obama going high when he made a joke about Sarah Palin and then scratched an itch on his cheek with his middle finger (which he did at least twice)?

When have Democrats shied away from going low?
