I still think it’s an old slime mold that is drying out, probably Fuligo septica.

Next time you pass by, take a napkin or knife or something, and see if you can smear it right off the stump. Under the dried-out skin surface, the internal contents should be the texture of whipped cream and there should not be any firm base connecting it to hyphae inside the wood.

I looked it up and it said EWWWW Gross!
Proof bears DO shit in the woods, don't step in it.
Trust the science.

Agreed. It reminds me of the term Brits use to describe something very messy or badly done:

"A dog's breakfast."

49% of political Independents think that Trump should withdraw from the election based on his felony convictions. This is not good. Trump needs to go beyond firing up his base. They are already on his side 100% and will not waver. But in order to win he has to appeal to Independents, moderate Democrats and Republicans, women, and minority voters. He can't win with just his base. But he keeps campaigning to his base, which is understandable, because he will receive huge and raucous support from them at his rallies, which is what he likes. But like he did with the Libertarian Convention, he needs to go into venues where people are not yet sold on him, but can be persuaded. And he shouldn't mock and ridicule them like he did the Libertarians. He needs to show them that he is still their best choice, even though they are not MAGA.

From gpt 4o after uploading all three photos and asking it to identify the fungus or mold:

The fungus or mold shown in these photographs appears to be Fuligo septica, commonly known as "dog vomit slime mold." This slime mold is characterized by its bright yellow to orange color and irregular, somewhat foamy or spongy appearance. It often appears on decaying wood, mulch, or damp areas and can change in appearance over a few days, transitioning from a bright, vibrant mass to a more muted and dried-out form.

Fuligo septica is not harmful to plants, animals, or humans, and it is a fascinating organism often studied for its unique properties and behavior.

Pucus horribilis

Orange and yellow tones developing, reinforcing my original thoughts that it's Chicken of the Woods Laetiporus sulphureus even though the growth seems to have paused.

Dog's Vomit Fuglio septica doesn't often turn that color of orange, doesn't develop separate "fingers", and is much more common growing on plant debris on the ground. I've never seen it growing out of the cut end of a log; but that's not impossible.

Forgot to check my spelling... Fuligo, not Fuglio... I guess I associate it with being "Fugly".

I now think “amr” is correct. That pinkish structure on the left has morphology that is more convincing for a developing Laetiporus.

Some people like to eat these but I’m not a big fan.
