"I got indicted a second time and a third time and a fourth time, and a lot of people said that that’s why the Black people like me..."

"... because they have been hurt so badly and discriminated against, and they actually viewed me as I’m being discriminated against. I’m being indicted for you, the American people. I’m being indicted for you, the Black population. I am being indicted for a lot of different groups by sick people, these are sick sick people.... Some of the greatest evils in our nation's history have come from corrupt systems that try to target and subjugate others to deny them their freedom and to deny them their rights. I think that's why the Black people are so much on my side now because they see what's happening to me happens to them.... My mug shot — we’ve all seen the mug shot, and you know who embraced it more than anybody else? The Black population. You see Black people walking around with my mug shot, you know, they do shirts and they sell them for $19 apiece. It’s pretty amazing — millions by the way."

Said Donald Trump, yesterday in South Carolina, as he received the "Champion of Black America" award from the Black Conservative Federation. He was quoted in "Trump says 'the Black people' like him because he's been 'discriminated against' in the legal system/In a speech to a group of Black conservatives, he also said Black Americans "embraced" his mug shot more than anyone else" (NBC News).

The tone of voice may affect how you interpret that:

He also called Joe Biden a racist: "Joe Biden really has proven to be a very nasty and vicious racist. He's been a racist. Whether you like it or don't like it. I happen not to like it. Joe Biden really has proven to be a very nasty and vicious racist. He's been a racist. Whether you like it or don't like it. I happen not to like it.... Biden spent years palling around with notorious segregationist you know that." I don't know what that refers to — some Senator who got elected and therefore received the conventional collegiality of the Senate? If that's all it is, the missing name is Strom Thurmond. Other than that "palling around" reference, I'm just seeing the repeated blunt assertion that Joe Biden has been a racist. Adding "nasty and vicious" or "very nasty and vicious" explains nothing.

And here's some edgy racial humor. I think it's a reversal of the old (and stupid) observation that black people are hard to see in the dark: White people are hard to see in the light.... ADDED: At the same event, Trump does a pretty funny imitation of Biden:

“ BIDEN HAS A LONG HISTORY OF PRAISING SEGREGATIONIST AND RACIST OFFICIALS

Biden Bragged About Receiving An Award From Alabama's Segregationist Governor George Wallace (D), Even Saying The Democratic Party Needed A "Liberal" Version Of Him

In 1987, Biden "Sought To Appeal To White Voters" By Touting An Award He Received From George Wallace In 1973 In Which Wallace Praised Biden As "One Of The Outstanding Young Politicians In America." "During 1987 fundraising trips across the South for his unsuccessful 1988 presidential bid, he sought to appeal to white voters, telling audiences that he had received an award from Wallace in 1973 and that the segregationist had lauded him as 'one of the outstanding young politicians of America.'" (Alana Goodman, "Joe Biden Once Said Democrats Needed 'A Liberal George Wallace,'" The Washington Examiner, 2/7/19)

Biden Received The Award In Mobile, Alabama In January 1974 As Part Of The United States Jaycees' 36th Annual Awards Congress, Where Wallace Spoke To And Congratulated The Recipients. "These were among the men honored Saturday night by the United States Jaycees as America's Ten outstanding Young Men For 1974. The 10 were presented at the nationl Jaycees' 36th annual Awards Congress. … Gov. George C. Wallace told the Jaycees the nation has come to the point that 'an elitist group…from some large institution…go immediately into government as bureaucrats, who never in their lives worked a single day. … Names of those honors and the reason given by the Jaycees for their selection: Joseph R. We'll see if the black vote migrates over to Trump a bit. A five point swing would be huge. The displacement and prioritization if illegal immigrants in black communities is pissing them off as it should. I think they realize Dems won't need them once the illegal immigrants are given the right to vote. Also, inner city voter fraud in Detroit, Philly, Atlanta, Milwaukee etc...may mask and black migration to Trump, at least in the swing states. Votes in Chi, NYC, and LA don't matter.

We all see how woke hypocritical white Martha's Vineyard didn't have room for migrants in their "inclusive" community, but they expect black communities to give up schools, community centers etc. And the money being handed out to the illegal immigrants is insane. "Also Robert Byrd from West Virginia. He was a member of the KKK and a Democrat."

“All KKK were/are Democrats.”

Of course they were. The Dem party has been the racist party since its founding roughly 200 years ago. They were the slave owners from the beginning, while the Republican Party was founded to abolish slavery. Andrew Jackson, a southern Democrat, had federal troops forcibly march the 5 Civilized Tribes to OK, along the Trail of Tears, in order for his cronies to steal their prime farm land. Upon Lincoln becoming President, the Southern Dems seceded from the Union, to form the Confederacy, in order to maintain Black slavery. Meanwhile, many Northern Dems refused to support Lincoln and the Union in their fight against the Confederacy. After the Dems lost the Civil War, they imposed Jim Crow laws across the South, that openly treated Blacks as second class citizens. And the KKK, the Dems’ paramilitary wing, intimidated Blacks for much of a century all across the South, through lynching and other forms of violence. The 1964 Civil Rights Act was enacted with the votes of every Republican Senator, except Goldwater, many of the Northern Dems, and none of the Southern Dems. Biden was a long term Senator from DE, effectively a Border State, where the KKK long held sway.

As Dem apologists will constantly note, eventually much of the South went Republican, with the politicians following the electorate. What they won’t tell you, is that the Republicans required that they leave their racism behind. The difference between how Strom Thurmond and Robert Byrd were treated by the two parties is instructive. Thurmond, in his younger days, a low level KKK member, switched to the Republican Party as a Senator. Ultimately, pushed by Dems yelling “racist” , he was run out of the Republican Party. On the other hand, Byrd was far from rank and file. He was earlier the KKK Grand Kleagle, for the state of WV, one of the highest KKK officers in the state. He stayed a Dem until his death in 2010, several years after Thurmond had been thrown out of the Republican Party, and in his last years was the President Pro Tem of the Senate, high in the line of succession to the Presidency. At his memorial services, a mere 14 years ago, most of the Senior Dems in, and from, the Senate showed up to laud him, including Clinton, from AK, and notably here, FJB from DE, stood up and lauded him.

Joe Smith म्हणाले...

Byrd didn't need to be kkk to get elected. He might have needed to walk carefully an not piss them off. But he didn't need to join and be so involved he rose to high position.

Ditto most other southern and northern pols in the past century.

The clip I was looking for and didn't find was Byrd on CNN in the 90s or 00s saying something like "[Name] is no better than a white [N word]"

Interesting historical point, Thurmond was a virulent segregationist but hated the KKK which he viewed as "representing the most abominable type of lawlessness." In fact, when he was a judge and later governor, he called for a grand jury to take action against the KKK and as governor ensured that a mob that lynched a black man was prosecuted. There was never a lynching in SC after that prosecution. He received thanks from the NAACP and the ACLU for this action. Of course, he is best remembered for filibustering the Civil Rights Act of 1964. (This is in the NY Times obit.)

Biden did praise Thurmond btw but he was in the same party as that Grand Kleagle and Exalted Cyclops, Robert Byrd (who also filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1964).

"A vile racist being called a vile racist: How dare he?!!!" I used three exclamation points to emphasize the sarcastic nature of the statement. One or two just seemed not to push the joke enough, someone might think the statement is serious. Four or five would have been a bit much. Six or more indicates the statement is from a crazy person.

For Example:

"Joe Biden is the is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life!" *Nobody pays any attention with just one exclamation point.*

"Joe Biden is the is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life!!!!!" *Working way too hard to sell it with that many exclamation points.*

"Joe Biden is the is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life!!!!!! *Obviously a delusional statement.*

"How DARE Trump call Biden a RAAAAACIST!!!" *Three exclamation points, the very best level of overemphasis to demonstrate the statement is made sarcastically.*

Joe shouldn't have shown such obviously mock moral outrage at the confirmation hearing of Justice Thomas, where Biden sat at the same table as Leahy and Kennedy without any problem.
