"[Democratic Governor Tony] Evers signed the bill despite pressure from powerful Democrats in the state to veto it."

"When the bill made its way through the legislature, Democratic lawmakers opposed it nearly uniformly, citing concerns... about possible future legal challenges to the legislative maps and general distrust of the Republican legislators who agreed to the law’s passage. 'If you believe that WI Republicans are planning to run on Gov. Evers’ maps in November, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you,' wrote Democratic state senator LaTonya Johnson on the social media site X. But it’s not clear exactly what those legal challenges would look like. 'I am extremely skeptical of this idea that there is a good basis for challenging the law, really on any grounds,' said Quinn Yeargain, a legal scholar who focuses on state constitutional law. 'I’m as much of a partisan Democrat and progressive as anybody else is, but being intellectually honest about what’s going on here is also important.'... The maps were heralded by anti-gerrymandering activists in Wisconsin as a win...."

From "Wisconsin adopts new legislative maps, giving Democrats chance to win state/Governor’s signature marks end of long fight over legislative lines and greatly reduces the Republican bias baked into current maps" (The Guardian).

God forbid the Republicans might have to convince people to vote for them using good policy and good candidates, they might get a hernia or something.

Including the words, "progressive" and "Democrat" with "intellectually honest" strikes me somewhat oxymoronic. Kind of like "conservative" and "Trumpkin."

Both of the two major parties are appalling in their unique ways right now, illustrated best by their prospective nominees for the upcoming national election.

It is sad how much Madison despises the rural and red suburban areas of the rest of the state. I guess the feeling is mutual.

If it were up to Madison, inconvenient red areas would be stripped of all rights and say in state gov't. The previous maps were not "gerrymandered". The liberal populations of WI are concentrated in Dane County and Milwaukee. Throw in the college towns connected with UW as well.

Wisconsin would be much better off if the centralization for all state administration was broken up and moved out of Madison.

Isn't that bullshit centralization of power "gerrymandering"?

Gusty Winds म्हणाले...

Tony Evers had no choice but to approve these maps. They were his initial proposal, and the WI GOP passed them as the lesser of two evils. Handing the map drawing over to the coven controlled WI Supreme Court would be insane.

But, hopefully the maps are challenged in Federal Court.

It really is bullshit that out of state college students can vote in WI elections. Especially when the 45% admitted are from out of state. Plus you get insane liberals from Minnesota voting here with the reciprocity agreement.

Madison doesn't need to import illegal immigrants to vote and inconvenience their Ivory Tower. They've got out of state indoctrinated college students.

Incumbent pairings under Evers' maps
15 pairs, 12 GOP-GOP, 1 Dem-Dem, 3 Dem-GOP

15 open seats.

The liberal WI Supreme Court and our Beta Cuck Gov who let Kenosha burn, drew themselves a possible majority. Notice 12-GOP v GOP new incumbent parings and 1 Dem v Dem pairing.

On what fucking planet is that not just another form of gerrymandering?

Yeah, as one Republican legislator said, basically we had a gun held to our heads due to the make up of the state Supreme Court.

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, R-Rochester, said Republicans chose to pass Evers' maps because they were "the most Republican-leaning maps out of all the Democrat-gerrymandered maps" being considered by the court.

We kind of have a gun to our head, frankly,” Sen. Duey Stroebel, R-Town of Cedarburg, said during Tuesday's floor debate on the bill.

And still the totalitarian leftists in Madistan weren’t happy

All but two Democratic lawmakers voted against the maps, hoping the Wisconsin Supreme Court would step in and deliver the party even more favorable boundaries. On Monday, just four Democratic lawmakers stood by as Evers signed into law a plan the party has sought for years.

Because screwing over the voters is more important than governing effectively.

I openly and unapologetically bitch and moan about the insanity and hypocrisy that is Madison, WI and it's over-weighted influence on our once great state. We will soon be Minnesota. It's nothing more than an Ivory Tower entitlement town fueled by WI state taxes and massive student debt.

It is also apparent that the hypocrisy in Madison knows no limit. As they enjoy the ripe fruit the rest of Wisconsin provides them, they do NOTHING with their power to reverse the rapid flushing of one great Milwaukee. They turn a blind eye to the crack, heroine, and fentanyl that is destroying the city. What exactly is it that Madison gives back? Watered down college degrees?? They cheered when Kenosha burned.

But Mark, I'll taking being called a "fascists" by you a compliment, since like every other braindead liberal you have no clue what fascism is. It's just a buzzword you were fed and programmed to regurgitate. Like a cow and its cud. That's probably the depth of what you understand about Wisconsin.

Oh. Don't forget your COVID booster Mark. Madison says you're overdue.

Says a proud member of the Party of vote fraud.

You know, the people who gave WI ~140,000 new "permanently disabled voters" in 2020, who therefore provided no State ID to prove they are alive, and who they say they are, rather than a vehicle for a fraudulent votes.

Apparently all 140,000 were needed, since Biden only "won" the State by 20k votes.

I'll listen to Dems complaints about teh voting process when they stop fighting to enable fraud

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

Surely, this isn't the end- right- the Wisconsin court could still overturn this one and impose their own map. It doesn't matter that Evers signed it.

who-knew म्हणाले...

My honest reaction is that the Democratic gerrymander we're going to be living under is much worse than the much decried Republican maps. There is no justification for Willy St. in Madison and Delafield being in the same district or Madison being parceled out into 5 assembly districts. The only way to get non-gerrymandered maps would be to write an algorithm that drew the lines based on 1) population, 2) municipal boundaries, 3) county lines. No other criteria should be allowed to enter into the decision, not party affiliation, not race, not anything. Of course, there is the problem of federal law requiring racial discrimination in drawing boundaries, but in a fair system that would go away.

"The legislature will be up for grabs." That's a good thing.

Evers did the honorable thing and made it fair — as it should be. That is how a democracy is supposed to work.

Mark म्हणाले...

"The only way to get non-gerrymandered maps"

Given the GOP has held both houses as well as the Governor for most of the last 15 years, why the f has the GOP not advanced these non-gerrymandered maps?

This could have been solved, but with a GOP Supreme Court you guys thought it was all solved as your Republican judges would always dance to your tune.

That would be high risk, high reward for the Dems on WISC. Because The whole thing would get appealed to SCOTUS, and there's at least even odds that SCOTUS would toss ALL their decisions, and restore the original map

Honi soit qui mal y pense.

My complaint in the first comment in this thread was against squishy milquetoast Republicans, and their failure to run strong campaigns promoting conservative policy as being BETTER than progressive rot. I did not intend my comment as a pro-Democrat statement.

Republicans shouldn't be losing over 50% of the vote because of their inability to promote their policies as BETTER, but damn my eyes if they don't keep doing exactly that. And it isn't because most of their policies are worse than progressive leftism. It is because they can't and don't explain themselves out of a wet paper bag.

Democrats are experts at gerrymandering, and all I intended to state with my initial comment was that Republicans have to convince voters of their superior policy. If they cannot do that minimum requirement to get votes, then replace them with someone who can.
