"It appears Chris Christie was just captured on a hot mic before his town hall in New Hampshire, saying of Nikki Haley: 'She’s going to get smoked...'"

"... and you and I both know it. She’s not up to this.' Christie added of Ron DeSantis: 'DeSantis called me, petrified.'... Ron DeSantis, responding to Christie’s hot mic moment, posted on social media that 'I agree with Christie that Nikki Haley is "going to get smoked."' He doesn’t mention the other part of Christie’s comment, his claim that DeSantis had called him in a 'petrified' state...."

From "Election 2024/Chris Christie Suspends His Campaign in Republican Presidential Primary/His decision, days before the Iowa caucuses, clears a wider path for Nikki Haley in the second state to vote, New Hampshire. Donald J. Trump remains the favorite" (NYT).

Apparently not a big fan of Nikki or Ron either. Only Crispy can save us from the Bad Orange Man.

Watching how the Krispey Kreme has carried himself over the over the past several months, I am mystified how he was able win an election, any election. He has is the anti-charisma candidate.

Nikki Haley? You gotta be kidding. A deep stater totally onboard with the Liz Cheney wing of the party.

It's not like he was telling Putin he would have greater flexibility after the election. Now, that would have been bad.

At the top of NJ fats head.

Can anyone following the fat man's flip-flops? A while ago, he was Nikki's knight in shinning armor, coming to the defense of the fair lady against the black knight =- Mr. V.

Now, its "sad, the poor little girl just doesn't have a chance".

Christie is one of those people who always adopts an attitude of superiority. He'smarter than everyone. Better at everything. An expert to end all experts. Everyone needs his advice. Yet, somehow he doesn't win. I suppose whatever Big Donor was bankrolling him, got their money's worth. Now, its on to a TV gig - with MSNBC and low ratings.

Christie has touted himself as the "truth-telling" candidate. He was caught on a hot mic saying Nikki Haley "is going to get smoked by Trump". He should be asked about it.

rcocean said...

If we lived in a just world, the end of Christie's campaign would mean he would disappear from public view, but of course we know that anytime the MSM wants some Trump-bashing, Christie will be on the TV and in the news.

He may not have been perfect, but at least he was brave enough to tell people just how bad a president Trump was and would be. Imagine the Republican Party being such an irredeemable bag of nutz that Chris Christie dropping out of the race will make it worse.

The Hot Mike comment by Christie has him complaining that Haley spent 68 million on TV, NJ fats only spent 12 million. If we'd had 68 million...says Christie.

But of course, Christie is like Yeb!, it didn't matter how much expensive lipstick you put on that unpopular pig, it was still a pig. People don't like Christie. Or rather 90 percent of the Republicans dont like him.

His "Truth", consisted in regurgitating liberal/left "hate Trump" talking points. And telling us we need to support more wars, support genocide in Gaza, love illegals, and cut social security and medicare.

The truth according to Wall Street and the Rich Neo-cons. But just because its Elite opinion doesn't mean its true. Or good for America. Only that its good for the elite.

Yancey Ward said...

Yeah, Rich, it takes a very, very brave person to tell everyone that Donald Trump was and would be a bad president. A true profile in courage, Christie is. Imagine the risk he took in doing that- all out there by his lonesome making these declarations!

Mr. Majestyk said...

"He may not have been perfect." Understatement of the decade. This is the guy who gave us the vile Chris Wray, who in a remarkable coinkydink helped defend Christie in the Bridgegate scandal, in which capacity he took possession of Christie's cell phone, which Christie's underlings said had text messages showing Christie's knowledge of the plot, but which never saw the light of day. So in a way it's not really surprising that Christie gives Wray a tongue bath, saying for example in June 2023 that Wray has done a "very good job" and that, if elected, he would keep Wray as FBI director.

At any rate, he doesn't seem willing to endorse the likely R choice--and wasn't that a big deal when Trump said the same?

So DiSantis called Christie petrified? Not the word I would've chosen, but close enough: Christie's dead meat. Glad someone was able to communicate that to him.

I guess maybe the reason Christie always seems to be stepping on his dick is because he hasn't seen it in years.

'Why don't you diet', say his aides, after he acknowledges this point.

'Diet ??' says Christie, shocked - and then with a look of anguished concern: "Why?.... What color is it now?"

I’m pretty sure he’s right about Haley, though. Stopped clock syndrome?

Exit questions. Did he actually think he could beat Donald Trump in his own state’s primary? And if lightning struck and he did succeed in becoming the Republican nominee in 2024, what made him think he could carry his own state against Joe Biden in November?

In NH, anyone registered as independent or undeclared can choose either am R or D primary ballot. Given that Biden is not on the ballot in NH (because SC must come first) and no other D of any note is on the ballot, all independent and undeclared voters (and same-day registrants) will likely choose an R ballot to vote against Trump. It will have very little meaning in terms of who they would really vote for in the actual election, but will give poor sad Nikki Haley false hope.

I think DeSantis' campaign is being run by a Democrat mole. He had an easy and obvious path: praise Trump's actual accomplishments, argue that he'd been successful following Trump's path but actual improving on some of the ideas, that he was younger and more energetic than Trump, and that he'd be able to accomplish more because the media hadn't yet spent 7 years trying to make everyone hate him.
Most importantly, he needed to refuse to rise to the bait of Trump's provocations, just saying "Pres. Trump says these exaggerated things all the time--he does it to see if he can get under your skin, and it doesn't bother me." And then spend his time criticizing Biden.
If he had done that, he'd be polling at 35% in most places and perfectly positioned both for VP and for taking the nomination after a major Trump mis-step, health issue, or overwhelming Deep State attack.
Instead, he followed the (idiotic) conventional wisdom, tried to beat Trump at the insult game that Trump invented, and has made himself look like a twerp. He now can't win the nomination and couldn't win the general if he did: Yes, he doesn't yet scare the wine-Moms and Karens (though he would have once the media was done with him), but he's alienated even reluctant Trump voters by hiring the most annoying, self-righteous, and moronic online troll army since the miserable Hilary Clinton bitter-enders of 2008.
Seriously, sometime in early 2025 DeSantis' campaign manager, or his media strategist, will come out as a Democrat and much will suddenly make sense.

I wonder what Christie claims to have perceived to cause him to believe that DeSantis was "petrified"? I doubt that DeSantis used the word petrified, or that his voice quavered. Somebody should follow up with Christie.
I suspect it was just an easy insult. And from classy Chris, the GW bridge guy.
