Conspicuous confusion at The Washington Post.

At the top of the WaPo website right now... note the photo caption:

Text of caption: "Protesters rally against U.S.-led airstrikes on Yemen."

Yes, we're all very concerned that surging Red Sea violence could imperil a fragile Yemen.

I had already read the article about "Red Sea Violence..." and was, frankly, exasperated and disgusted over all the hand wringing by the aid agencies about the poverty, homelessness and starvation that has been building in Yemen over the past 10 years because of the Houthi's militant activities. So all this negative stuff had started happening during the Obama Biden Administration. Meanwhile, Dems like Obama and Biden keep giving the Houthi's sponsor, Iran, billions of dollars. Dems are fools and suckers on the international stage. At least, Trump recognized the evil that the leadership of Iran represents.

Have you forgotten the $6,000,000,000 Biden sent to Iran? Is it a coincidence that all the current troubles in the Middle East occurred after this enormous infusion of funds?

Some day, the recipients of Iran's largesse of violence will get fed up enough to do something really outrageous about Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthi, etc., such as send a few cruise missiles every day for a month into Tehran aimed at the mullahs, just as a suggestion that they should reconsider their behavior towards the West. Or better, have a proxy group such as the suddenly well armed and never before heard of Iranian Freedom Front do so from western Afghanistan, then have the EU and the US act all surprised about it.

Althouse writes, "Yes, we're all very concerned that surging Red Sea violence could imperil a fragile Yemen."

(sarc tags omitted.)

Yemen has always been fragile because Yemenis have always harassed commerce in the Red Sea. In the early centuries of the Byzantine ascendency, Yemeni tribes were a minor thorn in the side of the East Indian spice trade into Mare Nostra. Things got a bit worse when an Arabian professional thief and caravan raider proclaimed himself God's final and perfect prophet -- can't fault the Yemenis for following Mohammad's principles, can we? Worse conditions prompted the blazing of new routes from Europe to East Asia, first around the Cape of Good Hope, later through the Straits of Magellan both avoiding the Bab-el-Mandeb, the aptly named "Gate of Lamentation" a very wide berth, thus further fragilizing that forever fragile sheikdom, leaving the tribes with nothing entertaining to do but gather honey for the Muslims until the Suez canal was excavated. Yemeni piracy resumed, followed by British warships seeking battle, followed in turn by more honey-gathering.

Now, they're at it again

Oh, right, Howard (8:07) it's all about Reagan. It has nothing to do with QuidProJoe funding these terrorists through his proxy Iran to the tune of tens of billions of dollars.

Beneficiaries of Biden/Obama largesse, through Iran, are responsible for more than 100 attacks on US troops and thousands of deaths worldwide, including Oct. 7th. Of course, Joe also funds Hamas directly.

Democrats are beyond corrupt. They are monstrous!

In baseball the object is to go home! And to be safe! - I hope I'll be safe at home!"

Howard sounded intelligent for a week or two but maybe that was one of his kids. Now, he is back to his Jimmy Carter stage where the Contras are "Death Squads" and the cocaine epidemic in the inner cities was the work of the CIA.

I haven't thought ever of putting Biden in the same sentence as Reagan before this comment thread, let alone the same category of presidential statesmanship. Damn that Reagan, all he accomplished was ending the failing Soviet empire without a war, and without trials in Nuremburg. Thanks, Maggie and Pope John, too!

That we are living with the consequences of that success (and also with that missing resolution of trials for crimes against humanity) might be met with some appreciation by thinking about the consequences that would exist today, had there been a nuclear exchange with that expiring communist party in the late 1980s. Remember how likely that seemed, how much that was worried over by Dems, when Reagan was in office, and was literally Hitler?

We need another Reaganesque president to do the same with Iran, a nuclear state in all but use of their planned and in-production weapons, and with China, another failing communist empire with nukes. Biden ain't that guy now, and wasn't ever.

Well, Howard, just think if Henry Wallace had still been VP when Roosevelt died. The Iran situation would have been much simpler. The Soviets would have had it in weeks. The Shah tried to modernize Iran too quickly and Carter sent his brilliant advisor Andrew Young to see Khomeini, who called Khomeini a "Saint" and the rest is history, as they say.

The Shah's father was a Nazi and, I suppose you wish we had left him in place.

By the way, the Americans were killed in Syria, not Jordan, something all over X, and which the Jordanian government has confirmed. Why are we in Syria again? What have they ever done to us? By what authority are we there? Oh wait, my bad, Obama put a letter in a file, so it’s all justified. The invasion, the occupation, the huge refugee crisis that destabilized Europe and produced so many heart wrenching photos of drowned refugees and probably led directly to Brexit.

This is all part and parcel of the endless war for world domination that the neocons and neoliberals have been embrangling us in since the fall of the USSR. “Never let a crisis go to waste” is their motto and creed.

tim in vermont said...

It's amazing how CNN feels no compunctions about lying to us that the strike took place in Jordan when the truth was available to anybody who cared to look that it was a base from our Putinesque invasion of Syria. Don't worry though, everything else they tell you is true, and the Gell Mann Effect is a myth.

tim in vermont said...

Remember that the Ukrainian Army is not an "American backed and armed force that is provided with weapons, ammunition, and targeting information by the United States, right on Russia's border and so under the control of the United States. That's a paranoid fantasy of Putin's! We have no control over them! Ukrainians are only fighting and dying because they want to!" But every militia that fires off an Iranian made missile is under the control of Iran, and therefore war with Iran is perfectly justified, even the moral and righteous thing to do, after all, who doesn't love $15 gas?

It almost looks like the real purpose of all of these wars is to cripple energy production and destroy economies worldwide.
