The contestants were so feminist that they didn't recognize a simplified definition of feminism.

I know very few people who, under this definition, would not be considered feminists.

"Free Speech" seems to be escaping many as well. They seem to think it's called "Jew hatred".

If this was broadcast in 1980 all three contestants would have known the answer instantly. The sorry fact is that in 2023 "Feminism" means anything but securing rights and opportunities for women equal to those of men. Hell, most self described feminists these days can't even define what a woman is, let alone express any coherent idea as to what it means to secure their rights and opportunities.

A man kicking the %#@# out of a girl in the boxing ring is feminism. A man winning a woman of the year award is feminism. Male perverts and rapists using the girls' locker rooms is feminism. I'd call it Orwellian but even old George couldn't have imagined the world we live in today when it comes to feminism.

Meade म्हणाले...

Transgenderism is the radical notion that women aren’t people.

Breezy म्हणाले...

Maybe Feminism has effectively run its course if no one recognizes it as a thing anymore.

The War on Women continues, but it's not the same one it used to be.

rehajm म्हणाले...

I understand their confusion. Feminism was never about equal rights…

One might think that their hesitancy to answer was guided by self-preservation against the woke crowd.

Is it the definition or a definition? Perhaps it is as the provocateur, formerly known as gay, Milo Yiannopolis said and people today no longer recognize feminism as striving for equality between the sexes.

R C Belaire म्हणाले...

Wife and I were watching that broadcast last evening and at this question/answer we looked at each other and laughed.

Rocco म्हणाले...

Answer: It was an organization created by a former general to aid widows and orphans after the Civil War. The name is a mixture of Scottish and Greek, meaning “Family Circle”.

Question: What is the KKK, Alex?

gilbar म्हणाले...

i thought, that feminism was "allowing men to dominate sports.. and bathrooms and showers" ??

What is "They-They" Former dudes competing with women, and winning the tops spots, Mr. Jeopardy.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves म्हणाले...

No one is stopping leftists from Jew Hatred. Some rich donors might cut off the money. Free speech goes both ways, Jew-Hate bitches.

If someone asks me a question on gender/ race in a public forum, I’m clamming up. The codes are constantly changing. More landmines than Bakhmut.

Leland म्हणाले...

Now Meade, women are people. They just are not female.

Gusty Winds म्हणाले...

Nobody is against equal opportunity for women. We all have daughters, nieces...granddaughters we was to see succeed and be happy.

But Feminism has become abortion until the moment of birth. Sexualization of children. Betrayal of their own values. Resentment and vilification of men. Complete left wing communist lunacy. Destruction of the education system.

Perhaps because the Teachers Unions are the loudest feminist voices, they drown out it's once admirable, original intent. Feminists can't even get themselves to protect young women in bathrooms or sports.

Gusty Winds म्हणाले...

Not surprising the contestants didn't know the definition. Left wing idiots call everyone fascists and they don't even know the real meaning of that term either.

Roger Sweeny म्हणाले...

Perhaps they think feminism is something a lot bigger than that, something along the lines of "the belief that men systematically mistreat women because they have the power (and the corollary that women can't systematically mistreat men because they don't)".

Narayanan म्हणाले...

suppose they had lifeline>> is there anyone they could call and get correct answers?

n.n म्हणाले...

The two sexes are equal in rights and complementary in Nature. Feminism and masculinism are class-disordered ideologies. Feminine and masculine are sex-correlated attributes (e.g. sexual orientation).

Sebastian म्हणाले...

They were right to be stumped. Really existing feminism is based on the belief that women are special. Example: the feminist rationale for abortion on demand, to be decided by women.

PJ म्हणाले...

To be fair, the answer should have started, "Until 1998,".

William म्हणाले...

Is this a hopeful sign? Or is it a sign that the aims of feminism have become so hopelessly muddied that no one understands what the definition is anymore?....It does seem that the societies most restrictive of feminist goals are not the societies that draw the most ire from the activists. The activists now have larger goals than feminism: solar power and the destruction of Israel.

I’m beginning to see what they mean by “The future is female.” And it’s not pretty.

s'opihjerdt म्हणाले...

I'm not a feminist. I believe in equa rights for MEN AND women.

rcocean म्हणाले...

Feminism has always been about securing privilages for women, not "equal rights". If women just wanted an equal playing field, they'd lose. So, they want a rigged game.

Jupiter म्हणाले...

Nonsense. Feminism is the belief that women deserve the right to have it both ways.

n.n म्हणाले...

Women want human rights. Feminists want human rites.

Rory म्हणाले...

Most pathetic is that they were spotted the "-ism".

ALP म्हणाले...

Ann: as one that frequents Reddit - have you seen the r/askfeminists sub? The neurotic overthinking nature of the questions might make a good subject for one of your posts. The conversations there remind me of hard-core Christians wondering if they are pure enough in the eyes of Jesus.

Negotiating on the fly if the given answer somehow involved trans women was paralyzing.

people don't really use the word feminism or feminist much any more.
