It's called "tough love." Children don't need to be constantly coddled. The most successful adults are the ones who had put up with adversary and problems as children and learned how to deal with them successfully.
If you don't learn how to deal with setbacks in life, you'll be a constant victim that will never advance and become an independent adult.

Every morning I watch dozens of parents walking their kids to school. My mother walked me to school maybe once. On the first day of kindergarten.
I am reminded of that guy, Ryan Carson, who was murdered this week in Brooklyn, and how he did not even fight back. He was so much bigger, with more weight and much longer arms, than his attacker.
