"Producers of juice-inspired alcohol say they’re not targeting kids at all, but instead adults who are perhaps nostalgic for the familiar flavors of their childhood."

"Even if they don’t drink actual fruit juice much anymore, adults might still feel affection for those colorful cartons and bottles. BeatBox co-founder Brad Schultz says... 'It’s comforting... The majority of people look at the past as a positive, and they look back with fondness.'"

Apparently, there's a "juice-ification" trend that includes "multiple brands of 'hard juice,'" "spiked versions of juice-based beverages, including Simply Peach and SunnyD.," mystifying requests for "juicy beers," and wine that doesn't even try to imitate serious wine, but might call itself "party punch."

Meanwhile, nonalcoholic fruit juice is declining in popularity — as more and more people come to realize it's not a healthy option. It's loaded with sugar. You'd think people would also want to avoid extra sugar when they're drinking alcohol, but perhaps they're on a vacation from health concerns when they're drinking.

Every few years the youngsters get a new take on the tipple- Mateus, Bartles & Jaymes, hard seltzer, juice boxes…gotta keep it ‘fresh’…

There is no joy that cannot be killed. Ban it.

It was only a matter of time before Snoop Dog’s Gin and Juice came to a supermarket near you.

I've noticed that IPA beers (my favorite), which used to be mostly just hoppy, are increasing being infused with all kinds of fruity and citrus flavors.

I'm nostalgic for McDonald's Grimace character, I'd like a cheap gin and grapefruit drink from my childhood. Sip, turn purple and make a face.

Boone's Farm and Mad Dog 20 20 led to a cascading failure of fruity beers back in my day.
BFA, Mad Dog and Ripple? Champipple!

In my days we drank Maddog 50/50. It only came in one flavor and we liked it.

A "juicy" beer (generally an IPA) doesn't generally have any citrus in it. (You can find actual fruit-infused ones, though.) Instead, it'll be loaded up with Citra hops, which do impart a citrusy flavor, or other citrusy varieties.

I like floral hops better than either piney or citrusy ones.

On sweet alcoholic drinks: I remember my dad making my mom brandy Alexanders as a pre-dinner cocktail when I was very young; she would have been about 28 or so. She occasionally gave me a taste - brandy milkshake! And my parents had a cool leather-wrapped decanter in the shape of a stylized sitting dachshund that they kept filled with creme de menthe for some reason (I don't remember their ever making grasshoppers), which we were occasionally allowed to have drizzled over vanilla ice cream.

Basically it seems my mom only liked her alcohol super sweet. She doesn't drink at all now; I have the feeling she only drank back then because it was what grownups did.

I haven't thought of Boone's Farm wine in decades! Thanks for the memories.

If you're not looking to just get fractured, cocktails are fascinating. Like a fine meal or a complex wine, the flavor possibilities in a mixed drink are a pleasure.

Juicy six-packs are downstream from the mixology.

There are also now seltzer drinks with fruit flavors, but zero calories other than the alcohol content. So the beverage makers are covering all fronts, all wants, serving anything you can imbibe even if you never knew you would drink it. Wine coolers are even still around.

My AirBnB rental house's fridge is regularly left with leftovers of sweet fruity alcohol drinks, lower calorie fruity seltzer alchol drinks, various premixed margarita beverages or mixes (hey, this is Texas!) and of course for simple hydration beer (and fancy canned or bottled water, still and fizzy).

Female groups of over-30s seem to go for the lower calorie stuff, younger women for the sweet fruity stuff, and older 40+ folks for the mixes and actual tequila. I generally leave a bottle of champagne or prosecco for the newly arrived guests, and have yet for any one of them to not that in their reviews of the place on AirBnB. Go figure.

Like . . a Bellini?

I'll be honest, the drinks I prefer (port, sherry) tend to be sweet and a bit fruity. I also enjoy a plum or yuzu wine (umeshu or yuzu-shu) with soda water. So I'm part of this trend I suppose.

We're about to legalize Fent, cocaine and heroin. We have TV adverts for Vodka.

Its a little late to start worrying about Fruit flavored booze.

A friend of ours was scheduled to come break the fast with us Monday night. I heard she'd taken to a tequila cocktail made with...Fresca. Fresca?

Eager to accommodate her, since she'd recently been widowed from a truly wonderful man, I went to Total Wines and confirmed that, yes, Fresca was still in production. In fact, the clerk said, it was experiencing something of a renaissance. There it was at the end of aisle 8: a few mini six-packs. And you know what? The cocktail was delicious.

Of course they are popular. When we fly, my partner orders a can of cranberry juice, and a Vodka or two. Then she might sneak in some more Vodka she has in her purse. She and her sister often drink fruit juice with Vodka when they get together. It’s alcohol without most of the boozy taste.

In what way is serious wine not juice-inspired alcohol?

Yeah, that stuff is poison if you need to be low carb. Was kind of a surprise when I overhauled my diet. 'Wait, I thought I was suppose to eat X servings of fruit daily!'

I don't sweet flavored booze. that's for chicks and teenagers.

Red wine is sweet enough. And so is Champagne.

Drinking sweet flavored alcohol is like smothering your rib eye steak in ketchup.

It's so hard to keep up. Is ice cream Good yet?

Other than Vodka, which by law has no flavor at all, the only spirit regularly mixed with fruit juice is rum, right?

And that because Americans mostly equate rum with Bacardi, a harsh, nasty, Cuban style rum. It really needs a fruit juice or Coke or something heavy to be drinkable. (Unlike Puerto Rican rums which are fantastic on the rocks)

Wine coolers go back a long, long time, perhaps 100s of years so nothing new there except fancy marketing campaigns as if they are a new idea.

I tried to convert apple cider to hard apple cider by leaving it on the countertop. I don't remember if I added yeast (baking type) to it or not. All I got was vinegar.

Wine is nothing but fermented fruit juice.

Things like this would not happen if everyone would just drink bourbon whiskey as God intended, but that is neither here nor there, because some people do drink this stuff.

Namely, some public health officials and even alcohol trade groups have raised concerns that so-called “crossover” beverages — which add alcohol to existing nonalcoholic brands — could appeal to children or confuse shoppers.

ONOZ!!! What about the children? You know- the ones the government wants to sterilize while pretending to change their sexes without telling their parents? *Those* children?

I have a (thankfully) very mild case of atrial fibrillation. Alcohol triggers an episode, so no more booze for me. I never drank much before, so no great loss. But, as is often the case, since I can’t have it, I want it.

I had a nice nasty reply, actually typed.. But then i decided i'm Not sure what you mean by "juice"?

Because in my life, i've NEVER had gin without lime juice (or lemon juice )
Gin and Tonic with Rose's lime juice And Fresh limes
Tom Collins (with whatever the hell Tom Collins mix is)

Oh, and Sloe Gin.. Whatever the hell that is?
OH! and Early Times Bourbon and lemonaid!
