"I've heard about you. And you'll be caught soon."

Said Conan O'Brien to Danny Masterson, 19 years ago: I'm reading "Conan O’Brien told Danny Masterson ‘you’ll be caught soon’ in resurfaced 2004 clip after 30-year rape sentence" (NY Post)("Speaking in court, the victims testified that Masterson handed them drinks that would make them pass out before he violently rape[d] them... in his Hollywood-area home in 2003 at the height of his fame").

Conan knew he had a joke, that is all. If he knew more, he certainly didn't care too much about rape then.

He ain't gonna do too well in prison. The upright citzens incarcerated accross the USA take a dim view of child molesters, child killers and rapists.

it's "NEAT", how everyone in hollywood;
knew ALL ABOUT all the rapes, and the pedophilia.. and never did ANYTHING about ANY of it.

Does Scientology have a LOT to do with it? or just Some?

Scientologists are a sick group of people. Pyramid scheme cult.

But still not as bad as the Democrat Party and the pedophiles that run amuck inside it.

Gusty Winds said...

Let's say Conan did know.

Makes you wonder what THEY all know but are afraid to speak.

I’m no Puritan but OMG it continues to shock and depress me to learn how almost every last figure in the entertainment industry is at ease living in an open sewer, tacitly enabling or actively consorting with creatures like this.

And we wonder how we got where we are?

Esteban said...

Are there non-violent rapes? Odd to add a descriptor when one isn't required.

The Crack Emcee said...

I document Scientologists doing weird things to people every day, and all the rest of you have to say is 'Have you seen that new "Top Gun" movie'?

As far as I'm concerned, you're all part of the guilt surrounding such things, because you do nothing.

America knows cults exist, and America does nothing.

That Conan said anything - anything - is astounding.

I would not let my kids watch that show because it seemed like whenever I tuned in for a minute, they were talking about sex. Not loving sex, either, just about “getting some.” Color me unsurprised.

Another Bill Cosby. What is it with these rich, famous people who CAN grab them by the pussy, but choose to drug and rape them instead?? I guess they don't like the gold diggers who DO let them do what Trump said. (Once again, Trump was right, but the left couldn't deal with the truth....) Just look at Hugh Hefner. Ask yourself, WHO would want that?

tim maguire said...

Maybe that was an allusion to his dating habits, but it seemed to flow with the conversation. I see no reason to think Conan was giving him a warning.

He must have forgotten to pay the vigorish to the Democrats to keep the police off of his back.

Imagine what happens when everybody understands the truth about what really happened and why during the last twenty years or so... It's clear we still feel as "in the dark" as someone who has been slipped a mickey via mysterious means.

That said, this asshole is where he belongs now. I learned that the truth will come out when I was just a kid, and sometimes it even happens. Good.

So, to be clear to the men in the audience ... ANY woman or group of women who get together and want to bring you down can come forward and claim you raped them 20 or 30 years ago.

How you are expected 20 years later to prove that you didn't do that is not your concern.

You no longer live in a free country. You live in Nazi, Germany. And the Scientologists are the Jews here.

Is there no statute of limitations on anything anymore? These charges are from incidents in 2001 and 2003. That’s 2 decades ago.

Not condoning rape of course, just seems like I’m reading more and more stories about criminal and civil cases from a long time ago.

There is a statute of limitations on Hunter Biden's Federal Tax Crimes, which were allowed to expire because...because?

Prosecutorial incompetence?
Prosecutorial corruption?

Which makes more sense?

Hollywood is really starting to crack down on the serial rapists in their midst. That's a stiff sentence, even longer than that handed down to the 1/6 participants....I appreciate the sentiment, but they should reconsider. By giving him a stiffer sentence they are to some degree making light of the 1/6 crimes. No criminal should ever receive a harsher sentence than a 1/6 defendant. I don't support serial rapists or murderers, but do they really want to say that this actor committed a more serious offense than, say, Mark Meadows. Get serious. It's travesties like this that cause so many to distrust our justice system.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

His activity is SOP in Hollywood, meaning the entertainment industry in general, as Michael Medved detailed in his famous book Hollywood vs America years before Masterson was even in position to take advantage of others like he did. LA's biggest big business is infamous for grooming children for sex, abusing women and men in the course of offering them the devil's bargain of fame and fortune.

What other industry has a "casting couch" even? What kind of people show no shame whatsoever for it when the casting couch is as well known as any "star" you could mention?

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

They had to go back 20 years because recent "justice reforms" in CA classify forcible rape of an unconscious person as NOT a "violent felony" and there's lots more. However the interwebs now make it very difficult to find the specific crimes reclassified under Prop 57, so good luck. I'm just jotting this down during a coffee break and grew frustrated chasing nonproductive links.

Tom T. said...

California has no statue of limitations on rape, murder, or embezzlement of public funds. The passage of time didn't really figure into this case, though, because Masterson's lawyers acknowledged that he had sex with these women and simply argued that it was consensual. There wasn't a question of having to prove that he was somewhere else at the time. It just came down to whether the key believed the victims, as he did not testify or call witnesses.

The jury was not a rubber stamp. They hung in his first trial, and in his second trial, they hung as to one of the victims.

His lawyers were sanctioned for sharing confidential information about the accusers with the Church of Scientology. The accusers reported being stalked and under surveillance thereafter. I don't think the Church is a victim here.

Thirty years ago, I spent a week as a houseguest of a Hollywood accountant. Outside of the pervasive cocaine use in that guy's world, I can't say I saw anything that was obviously illegal, but what I did see in the daily life of a nebbishy accountant made me realize that, if anything, what you see in the movies about the excesses of Hollywood understates the reality of depravity in that town, and I am no prude.

Sometimes I think that Hollywood hates conservatives so much because they assume that conservatives must be worse than Hollywood liberals when it comes to the treatment of women, children, and people at risk, and they know from firsthand experience how awful Hollywood liberals are.

The Crack Emcee said...

Drago,

Here's a fine example of me, saying the same thing about Scientology and society, 10 years ago:

"Get real - losing everything, because the society you live in allows cults to have their way with us, is par for the course. You're an American. You should expect this. Nobody's going to actually DO anything."

Well, Conan will say "one day,..." and MAYBE 20 years later,...

Conan is a smart guy. (And maybe he had heard rumors about Danny's sexual assaults.) There seems to be a little "I don't like you" vibe in Conan's interaction.

Hollywood has always been a land of symbiotic, financial relationships. They may dislike each other, but they'll do business together because they'll make a lot of money.

Yeah. You'd almost wonder if he was a Republican but it's Hollywood.

No one in the entertainment industry gets where they are without blackmail. Certain promises are made, and the assumption is that you will allow yourself to be filmed/recorded doing vile things in exchange for your celebrity. It's the currency on which the world runs, and Conan knows much more than he's able to say.

Masterson may have ticked off his keepers, or otherwise became a liability (no longer the hot commodity he once was) and so he was kicked loose. But despite the way the courts in CA lean, I can't imagine an appeal wouldn't be in the offing.
