No, it's not you, it's literally me, I'm in the problem, the word.

I saw the sticker today.

Headline: "‘Monty Python’ star John Cleese has ‘no intention’ of cutting controversial ‘Life of Brian’ scene" (from a stage adaptation Cleese is working on)

The scene in question features a male character from the 1979 British comedy telling his associates that he wants to be woman named “Loretta” and demands the right to bear a child. Flabbergasted, Cleese’s character in the film tells the man that the notion is ridiculous, while another male colleague offers that they all merely advocate for his right to childbearing as a symbolic way of standing up to “oppression.”

“I want to be a woman… It’s my right as a man,” the character claims in a scene obviously played for laughs. He adds, “I want to have babies… It’s every man’s right to have babies if he wants them.” After Cleese’s protest, the character snaps, “Don’t you oppress me!”

question for all you baby boomers..
WHY do you trust the government when it tells you things about this war in the Ukraine?
When did you start believing the government's stories?
What changed?

Huge if true: "...the United States can drop bombs on Syria, illegally occupy Syria, steal Syria's oil and scream about Ukraine's sovereignty at the same time?"

Michel Rosenfeld, in the Harvard Law Review in 1987, stated: "It seems contradictory to extend freedom of speech to extremists who would advocate the destruction of democratic institutions and who would, if successful, ruthlessly suppress the speech of those with whom they disagree.

. . . alone among Western democracies, the United States tolerates those who avowedly seek freedom of speech in pursuit of its destruction."

In a clear sign of more Tesla "failure", which according to readering is apparently everywhere, Ford Motors announces by 2025 ALL Ford electric vehicles will be installed with Tesla charging ports ONLY and starting in 2024 Ford EV's will have access to Tesla superchargers.

Readering hardest hit.

It seems that clouds create a more dramatic palette for the sun to work its magic. Does the lake have more clouds in the early morning than surrounding land areas? Some of the most beautiful sunrise pictures that I've taken were on mornings with clouds. Clear days make for less drama.

"It was the first time in modern history that a candidate not endorsed by the establishment won the highest office in the country. It was the first time in modern history that a grassroots movement won the White House. Trump had made the Establishment appear irrelevant.

They feared that he might inspire others to repeat what he had accomplished. They now fear that he can win again in 2024 and, with the lessons he learned from his first term, could be much more effective as president.

This is what makes him a target of a sustained campaign by various government agencies. This is why he was baselessly impeached twice. This is why he was and continues to be probed. All of the probes are baseless, unprecedented, and gratuitous and would never have occurred if Trump didn't stand for the MAGA agenda."

Serious question: Is the intensity of the colors in part due to the Canada wildfires (which have not been getting much attention for some reason)?

The left is famous for that, Gadfly. All the people in favor of suppressing speech are on the left.

Bud light says "Keep digging! We can reach China if we just keep digging." as they sponsor the Cincinnati Pride Parade. They would say "Hold my beer", but that would require a fleet of forklifts since they have so much unsold beer lying around.

"Does the lake have more clouds in the early morning than surrounding land areas?"

I've never noticed that, and I think the clouds affecting this sunrise are above the land on the other side of the lake, not directly over the lake.

This was just one of those days when the clouds are positioned to catch the most light. This happens maybe 5% of the time or less. I go out almost every day, so I've seen over a thousand sunrises over Lake Mendota. There are far more that have no clouds and also far more that have solid clouds blocking all color.

I'm zooming in, so the clouds you're seeing are at the base of the sky. That's often the case. That may be because the low angle has the viewer looking through more layers of water vapor, or it might be that the light coming in causes clouds to form. But maybe there is something like "lake effect clouds" happening.

Ann Althouse said...

But it's certainly true that what distinguishes the different sunrises are clouds — and maybe air pollution. The sun is the same.

Gilbar -
I'm a boomer.
My brother was sent to Vietnam. He was in medical maintenance. He saw things that didn't always jive with what we were hearing at home.
Afghanistan. FUBAR.
Now I'm supposed to believe everything I hear about Ukraine? After Biden's quid pro quo? Yeah...no.

Please don't heap all boomers into one basket. We are not all alike.
