Hey?
remember the old days? back when people were pretending The Ukraine was winning this war on its own?

heck remember back when Joe Biden said " the idea that we’re going to send in offensive equipment and have planes and tanks.. just understand — and don’t kid yourself, no matter what you all say — that’s called “World War Three.”"

To be fair, to the best of Our knowledge, we're not sending them with American Crews.. Yet.
(Just American maintenance crews.. and training crews.. and spotting crews.. and, well; Crews)

Detroit's Abandoned Packard Plant Finally Slated for Demolition (Jalopnik)

"The gigantic Packard Auto Plant has been a 3,500,000-square-foot cancer in the heart of Detroit’s Eastside since the brand shuttered the facility in 1956 — two years before the brand would also disappear. After decades of neglect, the looming ruin is finally coming down."

I was extremely upset to learn that the lazy and worthless Romney relative Ronna McDaniel was reelected to lead (if one can debase the word by applying it to her and her flunkies) the RNC. Then I read that Donald Trump had been working behind the scenes to assure her reelection, followed by a congratulatory message to her.

@Drago, @Achilles, @ every other Donald Trump supporter who lurks or comments on this blog, the man is dead to me.

The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling is funny, brilliant, tragic. Now it's drawing to its lugubrious close, and it's pretty sad.
+
There are an awful lot of low budget science fiction space travel pictures out there. But the astronauts aren't exploring the universe and encountering new species and humanoid races, like Star Trek or Star Wars did. They're low budget pictures, but also maybe we've come to think of space as much emptier and aliens as fewer and harder to encounter.

A small group is stuck on a space station or space ship (or less often on Mars or the Moon). Space is big and dark and cold and vast and hostile and empty (though it's crowded on the spacecraft). There's some threat that could kill all the astronauts, or they could kill each other, or the earth could be destroyed, or the earth has already been destroyed and the astronauts have to figure out what to do next.

Rubikon is an above average example of the genre, and I liked it, but it's still an example of the genre.

Garry Shandling was an incredibly funny man who did much to mentor and encourage young comedians.

I do wish he'd done more to discourage Sacha Baron Cohen, though.

In the quiet woods we saw. Trees were bare and wearing snow. The woods we walked through tell us so. The trees who've fallen, hold more snow. Quiet, nestled, we adjust our glow. Winter walks, so quiet, scarce. We settle for moments of peace and breath.( Inspired to write a poem from that picture.)

I support the Ukrainians because I believe they are defending their country against an invasion. As the Russian army moves forward, it destroys the territory it captures by raining down shells on it. But it's no use to surrender. Ukrainian men in captured territories are being forced into the Russian Army and sent to the front lines without equipment to be massacred by their own people. Ukrainian children are being kidnapped into Russia and adopted by childless Russian families. Ukrainian women are being raped by the men of the Russian Army, 40,000 of whom were recruited from prisons and promised pardons for what they'd done and for what they might do in Ukraine. There are torture chambers in captured cities.
And we are involved because
We guaranteed Ukrainian borders when they gave up their nuclear weapons under Clinton. In 2014 We accepted Russia's assurances that it wouldn't want more territory after it got Crimea and persuaded the Ukrainians to accept them. We see now what "negotiations" wit Russia mean.
But all this doesn't mean much in a way. Supporting Ukraine can easily be seen as morality being promoted by the scum of this country in a dark time about a battle far way. Here's what does matter. We can't pick and choose whether we fight the Russians just because we don't like the crime in the upper reaches of government or the catastrophic agenda being prepared at home for us. We can't stop and fix things and then later turn to the Russian problem and work that out. It's all happening at the same time. The left has rotted the Dems and the Russians have chosen aggression to get an Empire, now. So, in relation to the Russians we can only choose to fight them sooner or later. Sooner - while we have in Ukraine a courageous ally that understands the stakes because it is enduring Russian brutality or later - when no one wants us for an ally because we've been cowardly and treacherous in the Ukraine.

Want an indicator of the Biden Boomin' Economy? You know, the Biden plan? Goodyear Tire and Rubber joined a litany of major companies laying off a boatload of employees. This time 5% of their salaried staff. Tire demand down? No joke.

Honest, wildswan, I searched everywhere to find real information to verify your proposition, but it is so illogical and totally unverifiable, to begin with, and just nowhere to be found on the bright internet.

On the bright side, the full employment act for Fentanyl Dealers under the direction of the Biden administration "rolls" on unabated. No layoffs here. Occasional murders/ decapitations, sure. But no supply chains issues. The open border policy solved that.

Ronna McDaniel is a "republican' from michigan. Has anyone here EVER known, or even heard of, a 'republican' from michigan that wasn't a lying, alcoholic piece of "lie long republican' sh*t?
If someone can give me ONE example of a 'republican' from michigan that isn't actually a democrat, i'd like to hear it. Anyone? Any one at all?

WHY are the republicans allowing democrats to run their party?

this is to be expected.
Now that MOST People are driving electric cars, there just isn't a big demand for maintenance items.
Right? i mean, that's what people keep telling me; and the MAJOR car maintenance item is tires. EV fans? isn't That right? aren't EV's SO SIMPLE, that you won't have major maintenance?

Detriot’s cancer is not the buildings but the people in charge. It was once the wealthiest city in the world- talk about how hard you can fall. It’s cool a handful of corporations view the city as a charity case but the cancer is still in charge…

Detroit’s cancer is also transmittable, apparently….

I’m still struck by the Gaetz comment by a GOPer on the floor if the House that the money doesn’t have to be paid back…

I used to believe we’d elected the kids who got Cs in school. Today that’s either being generous or a sign of grade inflation…

Packard produced the American Rolls Merlin engine for the P51s. Also saw use in the early Unlimited Hydroplanes along with the Allison engines. Packard did not build aircraft.

Actually, EVs being heavier (due to the massive battery) than their ICE counterparts go through tires quicker.

Humperdink বলেছেন...

Not to worry about EV tires, they are made from compressed kale and crickets.

We'll be watching ARABIAN NIGHT, the Bob Baffert 1-1 Kentucky derby contender (so far) race at Oaklawn Park today. Front running speed has been the MO normally for this event. I'll be curious to see how Baffert runs this one. No wagers on a 1-1 for us. We were going to fly out to be in the stands, but other things came up. INSTANT COFFEE, the thoroughbred I have been watching has gained 32 out of 40 needed for Derby entry. Bolt d'oro, son of Medaglia D'oro, out of a AP INDY mare has a stamina pedigree in his background and INSTANT COFFEE first crop of foals from this pedigree. Next month racing will take off with many of contenders running and seeking their spots for the 1st Saturday in May. Maybe get my two sons, one in Tejas, one in New York to get together and fly out to get seats at the Derby in Churchill downs this year, my daughters can watch the grandkids and great grandkids. I will resume my handicapping next month and start doping out the events of life and placing wagers, life is too fleeting to just hang around, LET IT RIDE!

My daughter was married today in Paris. I’m in Paris now. Here are my observations:

Delta Airlines issues traditional boarding passes, and you use the pass to move through the TSA labyrinth. When you finally get to the gate, the boarding pass is ignored. They take your picture, and you pass through to your seat on the airplane. I don’t understand the ramifications of all this.

We rented a Taylor guitar, and I strummed “Wise men say....”. It’s cold here in Paris, and we walked to the marriage venue. The guitar was cold, and then warm when we reached the venue. The damn thing would not stay in tune.

My wife cannot read a map, and never knows where north is. Yes, I was carrying the guitar. I know better, but.......

Next up, Normandy!

Nice! Not knowledgeable but did enjoy trips to Bay Meadows. Cheap and interesting. Had a couple of friends who were serious, won $50,000.00 in the seventies. Each bought a new car, eventually gambled the rest away.Could have actually bought a house and had money left over.
Were winnings taxable back then?

Why Paris? Did your daughter marry a Frenchman?

Whatever the case, good luck and keep posting about the trip. Normandy is on my list . . .
