Did you survive the fall back?

We were up at 3.

4:30 here. Alive to tell the tale.

Don't know whether to file this under unintended consequences or collateral damage. Pick a tag.

Dave Begley म्हणाले...

You just reminded me.

iowantwo म्हणाले...

4:30 standard time for us. But, we are dog sitting, so the pup was the one demanding
t he day get started at his regular time, I think I would of slept another hour.

Best damned weekend of the year. Thinking about doing it every week.

tim maguire म्हणाले...

I'm annoyed. I've been waking earlier the last couple weeks when i was hoping to sleep in. So, up about 3:45 instead of the 4:30 I was anticipating not so long ago.

Saint Croix म्हणाले...

ha ha ha

that headline only took me 1 minute to get.

awesome

Money Manger म्हणाले...

When I am global dictator, all clocks will be programmed to shave 10 minutes out of every day, Monday through Saturday. Every week. Every Sunday at 2AM, the time will be restored with an added hour.

Wilbur म्हणाले...

Survive? I thrive, being an early-bird. I'm usually up and at 'em by three.

I hate Daylight Savings as much as anyone in the world. It should never be unnecessarily dark at 7:00 AM.

Saint Croix म्हणाले...

Historically my big fucking problem was changing my damn clocks around.

Now it's all automatic except the clock on my oven and (maybe?) in my car. My Volvo I had to find a tiny tool or some damn thing and move the numbers around. What's up with Sweden?

Now I have a BMW and I can't remember if its clock is right or not.

It doesn't actually matter because I work from home, at all kinds of different hours, 9 to 5 hasn't been my deal in almost a decade. I barely even think about time unless I got a date or I'm trying to get to church. And I don't know about dates but church you can wander in any time.

I sleep in to 0600 on the weekends. Had a fab western Mass mountain hike yesterday lunch at a dairy farm store then home to blow rake and bag leaves for three hours.

This morning will be a cold swim in Walden Pond followed by a 20-mile bike ride on the newly completed bike path rail trail west of Concord.

Continued gorgeous Indigenous Peoples Summer.

Hey Booms म्हणाले...

On 1st cup of coffee so too early to tell. Dogs ate at least.

Leland म्हणाले...

Slept in to 4:15.

Tina Trent म्हणाले...

The dogs are unconvinced.

Steve from Wyo म्हणाले...

Didn't notice until you mentioned it, then looked around and saw the automatic clocks were an hour earlier.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

Survive? I'm rolling over and going back to sleep. Wish we could fall back every weekend.

peacelovewoodstock म्हणाले...

"Survive?" I didn't lose any sleep over it.

It really just means the clock on the microwave will be wrong for the next few months.

farmgirl म्हणाले...

We tend to stay on old time for a couple 3days to ease the cows into an hour’s difference in schedule.
This morning, we were both so tired from trying to catch up on Fall chores, we “slept in”.

rwnutjob म्हणाले...

My cat was tortured by it. If she could talk, she'd call bullshit

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Tennessee, Alabama, and Clemson couldn’t handle it. Maybe next season. This one goes to the Animal House guys in Athens who even get their own Senator in DC.

Curious George म्हणाले...

My cat woke me up an hour early. His stomach doesn't have a time change.

Temujin म्हणाले...

I'm up at 3 every morning. The trick is trying to fall back to sleep. As predicted, the dog got up at 5:15 (to her it was still 6:15). And lucky for me, she chose my wife today to get up with her. Which was good as I stayed up to watch the end of LSU/Alabama and the World Series.

Amexpat म्हणाले...

Europe and the US are not in sync with the falling back and the springing forward. So the biggest pitfall for me is when I have to make business or personal calls to the US during the 1-2 period when the continents are not aligned, time wise. Today, everything is back to normal.

Jersey Fled म्हणाले...

Strangely, my body adjusted by exactly 1 hour and I got up at 7 EST just like I always do.

Maybe it was those nano bots that the government injected into my bloodstream with my Covid vaccine.

gilbar म्हणाले...

i slept 'til sunrise

Achilles म्हणाले...

That’s why I woke up an hour early.

I prefer to wake up when the sun comes up not some arbitrary human measurement of time.

Dan from Madison म्हणाले...

I live in Madison, but left Thursday to visit family on the west coast. I'm a circadian mess right about now.

Canadian Bumblepuppy म्हणाले...

Got up, looked at the microwave which said 1.30 am, circled in confusion and went back to bed.

Please make it stop!

Saint Croix म्हणाले...

I was in a panic that I was late for church and my computer just informed me that I got an extra hour.

Damn misleading clock in the kitchen!

donald म्हणाले...

I suppose so.

Althouse is famously (infamously?) striving for "cruel neutrality."

I think I'm going for "nice partisan."

Zavier Onasses म्हणाले...

Yes. Twice yearly demonstration of Government willingness to inflict needless pain and suffering upon the citizenry - simply because it can.

Saint Croix म्हणाले...

My motto in film school was "Moderation is for Mediocrities."

Which impressed the shit out of some people.

In politics that is a horrible bumper sticker and you will lose that race.

Unless you're running for Plato Club President or some damn thing.

It's fun to dump on the mediocrities until they vote and you're like, holy shit, democracy really is a thing.

hawkeyedjb म्हणाले...

It didn't matter here in Arizona, except that now y'all have screwed up our time-relationship to the rest of the country. Let's see now, are you one hour or two hours or three hours ahead of us...?

Big Mike म्हणाले...

I had an extra hour’s sleep. How can one have trouble surviving an extra hour’s sleep.

“Spring forward” sucks.

Paddy O म्हणाले...

I woke up around 6:30. After a bit, wandered this way and realized I woke up at 5:30. Bliss. More of a quiet still day to enjoy.

Clyde म्हणाले...

I woke up 15 minutes later than yesterday, so I wasted the other extra 45 minutes of sleep. It was nice to clock in at work after sunrise.

Jay Vogt म्हणाले...

I'll use the extra hour to find out who the heck is running for office at my new primary residence district. I have no idea who any of them are - although I do know who my governor is. Oddly, I did find out that one of the offices up for election here / this year is the county coroner. I think . . . . .think both a democrat and a republican are running for that here.

Pretty sure that I won't come up with time to research that.

Aggie म्हणाले...

I understand that a bill to make Daylight Savings permanent has been stalled in Congress for over a year.

cf म्हणाले...

my usual time to naturally wake up for years is 4:30. So, sure enough, i was up at 3:30 sharp. I'll catch up in a few days.

Tank म्हणाले...

Half the clocks change automatically. I woke up at 7 AM. Or was it 6? Or 8?

Whatever.

Check back with me tomorrow.

Rusty म्हणाले...

My clock said 6:45 when I woke up. It's an "atomic" clock so I'm going to go through the day assuming it is correct. My Apple watch and phone agree with the "atomic" clock.

Walk the dog. Check. Breakfast. Check. Reflect, ponder, per chance to share. Check.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

"Now it's all automatic except the clock on my oven and (maybe?) in my car. My Volvo I had to find a tiny tool or some damn thing and move the numbers around."

I've had my car since 2005 and I still never remember how to change the clock. Like, right now, I'm thinking I'll change it when I get in it next time and my memory's advice to myself right now is: It's actually the most obvious and intuitive way. But I'm not confident I can just do it.

hawkeyedjb म्हणाले...

The automatic clock update-thingy is one of the few things I like about my Subaru. And I never get to see it work, except if I happen to drive to another time zone.

typingtalker म्हणाले...

Twice-yearly resetting of the clocks is one more example of our government's inability to make and implement reasonable and rational decisions.

Oh No! We might make someone unhappy.

Michael K म्हणाले...

Here in Arizona we don't change anything. I wish Honda would figure that out but now the car clock will be correct when we go to California for Christmas.

etbass म्हणाले...

Cars, like computers, have become hopelessly complex. My manual for the car is 200 pages, mostly safety nonsense but finding out how to operate the rear hatch is impossible. A good part of the problem is the oriental mindset in writing operating manuals. They just do not do things the way Americans do. If the oriental carmakers would just let Apple do all the internal software, sound, navigation, etc. they would have a much better product... for Americans.

Dog had us up at 4:30. As did my bladder.

The Crimson Tide lost last night, so it really doesn’t matter if we survived or not. ;)

My In-Laws have a place in the Chiricahua Mountains in AZ; middle of nowhere but right on the New Mexico border. Cell phone service is spotty.

When we go out there I am never sure what time it is (not that it matters much, which is one of the reasons why it is such a wonderful place). Depending on where you are, your phone may show AZ or NM time. Once we were there when the time changed to or from daylight savings. I was really baffled then. The biggest problem is figuring out when to leave so we don't miss the plane flight home.

Narr म्हणाले...

Made no difference here at the loveranch.

I went to bed at my normal 11 or so, tossed and turned and slept a little, got up twice (thrice?) to use the bathroom, turned and tossed and slept a little, and got up about 9.

I wish I had the bladder strength of our old dackel. He goes to bed with me and often stays there until my wife gets up. She almost always goes to bed much later than I do, and gets up less. Of course, the dog didn't abuse his bladder and kidneys for decades, like I did.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

"Here in Arizona we don't change anything. I wish Honda would figure that out …"

That's the fatal flaw with all the automatic crap. It isn't possible to know everything nor foresee the future. I hate it and turn as much of it off as I can.

Do the designers of this crap think they're being helpful? They are not. They make things harder.

My Fitnus band - health stat monitoring watch - stopped linking up with my smart phone app today. When I activate the app on my smart phone, it gets to about 75% sync with the watch and then crashes.

Lawnerd म्हणाले...

Since I started working from home clock time has lost all meaning except for when I have MS Team meetings or calls. I only sleep five hours a night and have stopped determining the time I wake. As others have mentioned the biggest burden is changing the clocks and watches. I’m old school - a few omegas and a rolex for the wrist, a grandfather clock, and a chelsea shipstrike. All need to be manually changed.

My bladder has me up every two hours but Nick, the basset, sleeps right through. He gets me up at 7:30, though.
