It turns out the media stopped talking about baby formula shortage, but that's not because the problem was solved. They just seemed to have lost interest, I guess.
My wife and I went out to dinner and then made a short trip through the grocery store. On the way to the store (in the same building as the restaurant) I passed a young man leaning over with his back against one of the broad brick pillars, as if sick. I was passing on the other side of the pillar and just thought, OK another drunk or junkie . . .
My wife caught up with me in the store (she had stayed in the restaurant to use the ladies room) and after we came out she told me about the young man she had also encountered. He was looking poorly and moaning and she thought he was having a heart attack or something, so she paused and asked if he was alright. He replied that he just had a cramp in one leg and was waiting for it to unclench.
She commiserated and wished him well, and came and found me.
I told her she was such a boy scout, and that she'd choose to concern herself with the wrong person someday. IMO no woman by herself should ever start a conversation with a strange man away from other people. I don't care if he's bleeding out.
She thinks I'm wrong of course, and I may have to wait until tomorrow to get laid.
"Nine counties in eastern Oregon have voted to explore secession and join the state of Idaho ...... two more will vote on whether they want lawmakers to work on the logistics of moving the border. "Our whole core principle is that people deserve to have the kind of government that they want and that shares their values," Greater Idaho spokesman McCaw said. "
The governor of Idaho, Brad "The Vlad" Little, was unavailable for comment, but has ordered Idaho troops to amass at the border for a possible invasion to liberate affected Oregonians. Meanwhile, Oregon Governor, Kate "The Snake" Brown, has requested arms and troops from Army's LBTQ division to repel any potential invasion. No joke. *cough*
Growing up, network TV was like a room in the house, and it was the room where things were always happening. It's not like that any more. I heard Hillary Swank is playing a reporter or editor on an Alaskan newspaper and delivering lines that were familiar from Lou Grant, but I don't have a clue what the broadcast networks are serving up this fall, and don't really care.
I'm watching Valentino by Ken Russell. Yes, it's strange, with a long boxing scene, but it's not as bizarre as some of his films. If you are in a biopic mood and are interested in the 1920s and the silent film era, you might not hate it. The dancing is great (Rudolf Nureyev plays Rudolph Valentino). I don't know what to say about the acting (Nureyev and Michelle Phillips weren't originally actors). If you are playing Blog Bingo you get an extra point since Valentino's wife was a devotee of Omar Khayyam and of everything Oriental and mystical.

I much enjoyed this video of a French climate protestor. (Make sure you have the sound on.) A grown man crying for his "Maman" (French for "Mommy") suggests the young man is a bit too immature to be protesting with super glue.
"Pelosi looks irascible, and her on-camera performance appeared contrived and devoid of plausibility. She was unable to convey any urgency or an undercurrent of terror about an impending insurrection. The fact that she engaged in humor shows there was no panic or urgency at all.
Pelosi needed better script- and dialogue-writers. Perhaps she should have hired an acting coach before this appearance."
President Assisted Living yesterday in Portland, OR: “The Inflation Reduction Act has to do with your ability to get tax credits for buying — if you need a new coffee machine, a new washer, a new refrigerator,” Biden said. “And you buy an efficient refrigerator, efficient coffee machine, you get a tax credit for it.”
Good grief, it's a wonder they let this flub machine out at all.
In reference to Lurker and national broadcast TV, to many of us fall was really the beginning of the year. Fall brought;
1) school beginning, of course 2) after a summer of re-runs, all of the new shows on the 3 national networks and the new TV schedule 3) the release of new cars and models. This was big. The dealers would cover their windows with paper until release day and car enthusiasts would wait outside for the fall model unveiling
The other thing I remember about fall was that in October, Sports Illustrated, back then an exceptionally well written magazine, would have articles on all 3 major sports, the World Series was played, pro and college football was in full swing and pro basketball was starting its season. Male teenage heaven.
My wife and I went to the Astros-Mariners 3rd ALDS game yesterday, along with 47,688 of our closest friends. I'd guess that at the end of the game, 18-innings later, 99% of our closest friends were still there. About every three innings, there'd be a rush for the bathrooms, then everyone was back in their seats. The concession stand lines were not that long, but when you needed the concession stands to be open, around the 14th inning, they were all closed.
We'd bought parking ahead of time at a nearby parking garage (2-blocks away) and arrived around 11:15 a.m. for what we thought was going to be a nice afternoon game. The game lasted 6:22 hrs. and finished at 7:30 p.m. We got home around 8:30 p.m. after taking the SR99 tunnel (toll) and the SR520 bridge (toll). That was far better than trying to go past T-Mobile Park and the thousands of cars trying to get onto I-90 and I-5.
The game was a pitchers duel, many, many pitchers. Seventeen innings of scoreless play. Runners would get as far as 3rd base, only to be stranded there when the defense got two quick outs to get out of the jam. It was an 18th inning home run to centerfield that won the game for the Astros. The Mariners were out 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 18th, and that was that.
Good game. Looooong game. We got two 9-inning games in at one time.
I used the SpotHero web site/app to make my parking reservations. I was able to cancel today's (October 16) reservation in less than a minute with just a two or three answers on their app. Recommended.
It's depressing reading the list of the World Economic Forum's "strategic partners." So many big companies. Google, Amazon, Bank of America, Mastercard, Visa, Accenture, Blackrock, Paypal, even Coca-Cola. And the WEF is busy developing new drones. Did you know that the WEF Young Global Leaders include Colin Allred, Congrescritter from Texas, Kate Gallego, Mayor of Phoenix, Arizona, and Garlin Gilchrist, Lieutenant Governor of Michigan? Don't vote for any of these people. Other members include Usman Ahmed, Head of Global Public Policy and Research at PayPal, and Joud Abdel Majeid, Deputy Chief Financial Officer at Blackrock. All this info is available on the WEF's website.
Saw the climate nuts protesting Chase Bank and oil the other day in the city, on the same block where the Black Hebrew Israelites usually rant. Does that mean fall is here?
Photo #2 -- I thought there was a big box floating in the lake, then I enlarged it and saw that it was part of the tall building reflected in the water. Cool.
I thought that this link of cell phone video from inside Russia might be a hoax, but at the same time, the Russian MOD announce "experiments on enemy satellites," which makes sense since this seems impossible to hide, and the Ukrainians complained about the "catastrophic consequences" of loss of StarLink on thte battlefield, and, of course, blamed Musk and even put him on their "kill list" for a short time, and the tide of battle seems to have shifted in Russia's favor.
If your take is that there are too many satellites to disable, well, Russia is not going to run out of energy or photons. There is a cycle of escalation going on.
And I see that wildswan is still repeating, in the most gullible fashion, the propaganda of the same people who accuse all Trump supporters of being insurrectionist traitors as if it was Holy Writ. It's a kind of Gell-Mann effect, I guess.

I think the reason that climate protesters felt justified targeting the Van Gogh painting with tomato soup is because it was an oil painting.
And apparently outside of the US you can by Heinz tomato soup that is not condensed. Heinz soup. I wonder if Kerry was an inspiration.
Oregon nazis. I hate those guys.

The next time I hear the words "climate change" I'm throwing a can of soup. And I'm all out of can openers.

10/12 - $4.999/gal
10/13 - $4.799/gal
10/16 - $4.659/gal
$0.50/gal drop in 10 days!
But, they were $2.449/gal on Jan 20, 2021.
