"I might have been 7 or 8, and I dreamed of a pair of white majorette boots and outfits that matched... Now I have 100 pairs of snow white shoes."

Said Linda Rodin, quoted in "You’re Never Too Old for a Miniskirt/Linda Rodin, founder of the cult favorite Olio Lusso face oil, has returned to her first love with a quirky, age-defying denim collection" (NYT).

Have you ever dreamed of clothing/accessories and then adopted what you saw in the dream as your new style? I might do that but I can only think of one instance in my entire life when I have dreamed of clothes. If I did have a vivid dream about clothing, I think I would make an effort to find clothing like that and wear it — sport it.

Maybe I'll wake up one morning and find I've turned into someone like this:

Do shorts chase you in your nightmares? Or does the sight of men in shorts cause you about of hysteria in your dreams?

"Do shorts chase you in your nightmares?"

Is this a reference to the Dr. Seuss book "What Was I Scared Of?"?

Oneiromancy! What fun.

I can't recall a single dream of clothes in my life; my dreams would center on lack of clothes (usually my own).

On the other hand, for many years I had a recurring dream about living in a house with particular features and after visiting almost 40 open houses over a few years I walked into this one and felt, this is it.

Kinda like Althouse Blog, come to think . . .

More power to them. It's a free country and they can dress anyway they want short of lewd in public.

I bet she had this book.

My sister got it for Christmas, and it's "seared" in my memory because it's in our family home 8mm movies from the 1960s.

The other day, you said it was cultural breeding that teaches women to minimize themselves through fashion. A new day, and now we find out it's all dreams and subconscious.

Cher's costumes, Women in the Workplace and the Joan Crawford shoulder pads working-woman films of the 1940s, and Dynasty in the 80s fashion -----those women weren't very diminutive, although the designers did conjure up their larger-than-life get-ups through dreams and fantasy, I think.

The only repeating dream about clothes I've ever had is that I went to church and forgot to put on my skirt. So there I was, time and time again, in church with nothing but my flowery top and pretty white slip (years ago we wore slips with our skirts and dresses) while having to walk to the front of the church to sing with the choir.

I wanted Madras patterned clothes in the Fifties but my parents thought they were ugly and over-priced and we were hard-up, so, no. Then Madras went out of fashion and disappeared before I had my own money. But now it's sort of back and I have some Madras pajamas. I dream in those clothes - does that count toward dreaming of those clothes?

It's good that the miniskirt and go-go boots era and the gender-bending trans era did not overlap.

Poodles are so Fifties.

Still hoping for the “male gaze”? Probably not, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind.

I'm more of a 'normie', blend into the background sort of person, most of the time, though I enjoy looking great now and then. I Must Say though, I admire these women, for the boldness and color. Too much work on a daily basis, but more power to them!

I admire women who do not accept being invisible once they are in their fifties. I myself have a wardrobe largely of jeans, khaki shorts, brightly printed shirts and highly visible shoes. I find it odd how often I am complimented on my shirts and shoes when I'm just trying to be comfortable and bright. I am no where near as put together as the women in the video. However I do usually wear a hat because I live in Florida and need to keep the sun off my face.
