i don't usually watch your tiktoks, but..
it WAS cheerful to hear Jo Biden telling us, that he could be dead tomorrow
Wow. Well...
1) The photo from Dorothea Lange was the most interesting of the videos. Knowing now how this photo was put together is bittersweet. The famous photo- #6- is still a great photograph. But does lose it's power to me now that I know it was staged. But...was it? I mean, the woman and her children were still going through that terrible time, still struggling, worrying about what is to be. You can see that in their faces in each of the photos. So...while #6 loses something, it's not much because seeing all of the photos, to me, gives even more of the story. And makes Ms. Lange's eye seem even sharper.
2) Loved the Noodle Man and the dog with the dumpling.
3) WaPo showing itself to be just as vaccous as I've long suspected.
Number 10 i love, the others do not thrill me at all.
The dog's not an idiot. He knows that the soy sauce is salty and it enhances the dumpling's flavor for him as much as it does for us.
Finally! TikTok’s!
Documenting a time when Democrats at least pretended to care about white working class people. Deplorable!
Oh, shoot, I admit it...#4
I follow that guy in number five. His deadpan delivery always makes me laugh.
If WaPo wants to see if some things are suppressed, they need to publish the videos from a not-the-WaPo account.
Is "70 is the new 50" a joke? If the joke is that he's talking about mental decline and he can't even quote that correctly, I don't think it's very funny. Sad!
When Biden started off with "everybody talks about", I thought he was going to say "everybody talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it", which was a joke in the 1800s, but now the problem is that too many people want to do something about it - or, rather, they want to make me do something (or stop doing something) while they keep the same lifestyle.
#9 and and #10
ha ha ha
the fucking Biden thing
dude
the dog
you didn't do it right
ain't eating that shit
without the sauce
you're not fooling me
the dog's wearing a bikini
I just noticed
that is some G-rated dog action movie
Wow. The Biden lip sync was remarkable.
#9 about the Migrant Mother photo by Dorothea Lange
I know a grandchild of one of the girls in the photo. He said that the family had a very conflicted take on the photo. It was one part shame for having been so poor, and one part pride at having gotten through that poverty.
As a photographer I always point to this photo as an example that 'All photos are a lie, some tell larger truths'. The staging and particular choices made hide parts of the story (more children) but showed the pain etched in the mother's face.
#8 was hardly trying. The magic word for which they were looking is Uighurs. That would have got them suppressed in a heartbeat.
Mocking Biden is too easy. It makes the baby Jen Rubin cry.
Usually I'm partial to #2 and #10 type videos, but today that #9 really held my attention.
My heart is broken! Everyone is praising #10 and I'm getting "not available".
I watch most clips twice, but the noodle man was so terrifying that I quickly moved on.
College freshmen clip was excellent.
Iconic photo clip filled me with awe and admiration for Lange.
9. Wow. I really learned something. The Straussian interpretation would be, "This is an ad. You're being manipulated."
#9 may be the one that finally gets me to install tiktok. #3 causes me to hesitate though
I liked Dexter - watched him three times. That “smile” as he walks..!
I just noticed that Dexter is missing a front leg.
No. 9 was my favorite (no. 10 was 'unavailable') but the freshman texts made me chuckle and the deer made me take pause.
I note that the WaPo TT has two white men and one black woman. And no one is old. Where's the diversity?
Great Dorothea Lange video. The creepy noodles were awesome.
In the 1960s or 70s, somebody tracked down the woman (and her daughters) in the Lange photo, and published a short book with updated photos. The woman did lead a hard life, partly because of her own decisions. But by her 60s or so, she lived in a comfortable middle class bungalow in California and her children were grown and healthy. (I'm doing this from memory of that book, and welcome corrections and elucidations on this.)
