Daily Beast: “Staffer Says She Was Fired by The New Yorker After Flaming David Remnick“

The New Yorker’s archive editor says that she was fired after raising concerns about gender inequality at the magazine and publicly accusing its editor-in-chief of inserting errors into her articles.

Erin Overbey announced her firing in a Twitter thread on Monday. Her update came less than a week after she claimed she was put on a “performance review” after raising concerns about gender disparities at the magazine. She also alleged that “factual errors” that the outlet cited during her review were in fact inserted into her copy by David Remnick, the New Yorker’s editor-in-chief.

Sounds like another generational collision in full? display.

We had to put our dog of 15 years down today.
I am sad and will miss her terribly.
To her last day she chased her red squeaky ball. She didn’t move that fast for anything else.
Still makes me smile.

Ukraine should cede no territory to Russia – Henry Kissinger

99-year-old Kissinger (Tricky Dick Nixon's Secretary of State) is certainly adept at talking from both sides of his mouth.

His opinion depends on which way the wind is blowing.

Turns out that the "liberal world order" is at risk if Russia wins. Says so on Twitter, so it must be true!

If lefties can't define what a women is, how can one expect them to know what a recession is? After all they are not STEM majors.

It's obviously racist to say that policies such as printing money which are supported by Kamala Harris and the Dems could cause an economic downturn. If there's more money and the government distributes it to everyone, everyone is richer. Dem policies are as great as space.

Defendants’ briefs in the affirmative action cases against Harvard and UNC were filed today, along with an amicus brief in each case for the NAACP LDF. From a quick review, both briefs basically argue the facts — in the Harvard case, as affirmed by the First Circuit. No intentional discrimination, limited use of race, no alternative solution that doesn’t involve consideration of race, no real Asian penalty because each application is reviewed holistically, etc. Neither university could explain how much diversity was needed to achieve whatever educational goal justified it, without which it’s impossible to say when a university has to stop using racial factors because it has achieved the ostensible goal.

In the normal case tried to the bench, the SCOTUS accepts the facts found below ( the rules require as much) and considers the purely legal question whether the lower courts correctly applied the standard or burden of proof or some similar issue. That’s basic attack in the plaintiff’s briefs — the lower courts got strict scrutiny backwards. Once Harvard and UNC admitted using racial criteria to benefit some applicants and disadvantage others, strict scrutiny imposed a heavy burden on Harvard and UNC to show a compelling interest that could only be met by engaging in racial discrimination. What happened below was that the courts accepted very general justifications from Harvard and UNC while criticizing plaintiff for not negating that showing.

In the Fisher cases, the Court was clear that universities gat no deference on these questions. But that’s what happened in these cases when the lower courts accepted The confusion all stems from Grutter, which is plaintiff’s main target. And in a very odd twist Gruter came with a 25 year expiration date.

The reply briefs will pretty much write themselves, and on this issue they won’t have to strain to attract the vote of CJ Roberts.

My guess — 6 Justice majority to overrule Grutter and reject any use of racial discrimination by public universities or universities receiving federal funding unless the universities can meet the very demanding strict scrutiny test applied in every other context.

Pameini, My condolences. That she still had life in her even on her last day speaks trust and comfort. What a friend said to me after my pet died, "you gave her a good life."

Everyone who's had the luck to have a dog will grieve with you.

We lost our beloved Golden Retriever six years ago.

It was very bittersweet for us that the very last time he thumped his tail after lying on the kitchen floor for two days came when our lefty-whacko Liz Warren supporter across the street came to see him off.

I know Goldens are supposed to be "the dogs who love too much", but for us that was quite a stretch. But they were obviously fond of each other.

A plush orca toy, his favorite, still sits in a corner on our kitchen floor---and will be there forever. We smile every time we see it.

Someone noticed on Twitter that people who have lost their pooch will say, "he was the best dog".

Someone else replied, "And they would all be right."

When you treat Russia with arrogant rudeness, teenage infantilism and primitive stupidity, you get a war in Ukraine. You can think all you want with your brainwashed little gray cells that America is a force of decency in the world, but it’s a lie.

Greetings from Lithuania. It’s been a good visit so far.

So her staff won’t meet with health-care experts, she won’t meet with union organizers, she kills jobs in her community, and, according to Ramos, who wasn’t quite done castigating her victim, AOC won’t even sit down with local leaders and politicians. This has to leave her constituents and all New Yorkers asking of Ocasio-Cortez: What exactly would you say you do around here?

Unleashed by a right-wing Supreme Court, Republican legislatures around the country are repealing or restricting abortion rights. This is producing horror stories [previously never discussed openly in any detail by those who favor killing babies] that [former conservative Max Boot] never thought [he] would see in the United States. A woman in Texas had to carry a dead fetus for two weeks because removing it would have required a procedure that is also used in abortions. A woman in Wisconsin bled for more than 10 days after an incomplete miscarriage because medical staff would not remove fetal tissue. A 10-year-old girl was raped in Ohio [by her current "live-in dad" from Guatamala] and [she] had to travel to Indiana to get an abortion.

There is nothing in Indiana law the prevented an abortion in this case

My take on this case is that the medical staff deliberately failed to meet Standards of Care requirements to score political points. The woman needs to sue them into pauperdom.
